Chapter 61 John, Stop Right There

The man, who was wearing a white flower on his chest, narrowed his eyes and cast an inscrutable glance toward the cemetery.

"My sister only has one daughter. We must bring her back, but not now."

"Yes," the man in the driver's seat said. "It isn't safe for Miss White to return right now, considering everything that is going on. Mr. Lee, should we head back to Country G now?"

Mr. Lee replied, "You go on ahead. I still need to meet someone."

The others responded, "Understood."

Aurora found her mother's tombstone. A bouquet of flowers had been placed upon it.

Someone had come to pay their respects.

Jack asked, curiously, "Sis, who do you think came to pay their respects to Mom?"

Aurora couldn't think of anyone who would do that. Her mother had been gone for so long, and every year since her death, Aurora was the only one who had ever come to visit the grave. How could someone suddenly come to the cemetery to pay respects to her mother?

As she was thinking about it, Dean arrived with flowers. His car had been behind Aurora's, so he arrived later.

Dean greeted them. "Aurora, Jack."

He then looked at the flowers in front of the tombstone and said, "I see you've both already paid your respects. I went to the flower shop to buy flowers for your mom but got stuck in traffic, so I came late."

Aurora glanced at the flowers Dean bought; they were lilies.

"My mom is allergic to lilies."

"Is that so? I really didn't know that," Dean said with a bitter smile.

Aurora remarked, sarcastically, "Of course, you wouldn't know anything about what Mom likes and doesn't like."

Whenever the past was brought up, Aurora felt that her mother had been treated unfairly, and she naturally harbored some resentment.

Dean was embarrassed and said, "I was always busy with work and neglected your mother. I owe her a lot and I wanted to make it up to her."

Jack sneered. "I've noticed that you seem to be deferring quite a bit to that old witch Nicole. You've made it up to her. I saw her dressed in jewels today, and it seems that the rumors of the company's bankruptcy have been greatly exaggerated."

Dean said with a forced smile, "Recently, the company received some investment funds, so operations have returned to normal."

Aurora had played a significant role in this. All Aurora had done at the banquet was act as Dean's escort, and the day after that, someone had invested money into the company and the bank loan had been approved.

In today's society, money and connections were all that mattered.

Aurora was undoubtedly Dean's cash cow now. As long as he maintained a good relationship with her and with the Robinson family, the White family would only rise higher.

Aurora placed the flowers she had brought in front of the tombstone.

Now that she was standing in front of her mother's grave, she didn't want to argue with Dean, no matter how much resentment she felt.

Dean addressed the grave, insincerely, "Alan, rest in peace. I will take good care of Aurora and Jack. Please bless Jack with a speedy recovery and bless Aurora with a good husband."

Both Aurora and Jack knew that Dean was just putting on a show. They didn't like it but said nothing.

After paying their respects, they turned to leave. Jack headed back to the car ahead of Aurora..

Dean hesitated and said, "Aurora, you and Emily are sisters. She's not adjusting well to  the Taylor family. Although she brought it upon herself, I still hope you can help her. Emily truly loves Daniel."

"How should I help? Should I persuade Daniel to accept Emily?" Aurora sneered. "She chose her path, and she'll reap what she sows. Don't try to guilt me into showing compassion. I will never forgive what Nicole and Emily did to me."

Dean knew Aurora had suffered greatly.

If word ever got out that she had borne a child out of wedlock, Aurora's reputation would be ruined.

Moreover, considering how Nicole and Emily had acted toward her thus far, they would never let Aurora off.

Dean sighed and said, "I'm in my twilight years now. I just want to see the family stand united and support each other."

Aurora couldn't help but laugh. "Mr. White, do you deserve to ask for that? You expect us to support each other? Have you forgotten how resolute you were when you severed ties with me? I didn't see even the slightest hint of support back then."

Dean felt extremely embarrassed. His words clearly contradicted his actions, and what Aurora said felt like a slap in the face.

"Aurora, I'm sorry. That was indeed my fault. How about coming back with me today? Let's have a family meal together. It's been a long time since we've sat down for a meal as a family."

He really had no shame.

Aurora couldn't help but admire it.

"Forget it. I don't have your sense of magnanimity, being able to forgive even after being cheated on by your wife," Aurora said, smirking. "By the way, you severed ties with me, and Jack isn't truly a member of the White family. How can you be so sure that Emily is truly a member of the White family?"

Dean was shocked and asked, "What do you mean? How could Emily not be my daughter?"

Aurora left it at that.

In the past few days, with Loren helping to lift her spirits after her breakup with John, Aurora hadn't had time to deal with Nicole and Emily.

Today, Dean had said so much, and since Nicole and her daughter had given her a big gift at the banquet, she should return the favor.

In the past, if Aurora had hinted at the uncertainty of Emily's parentage, Dean would have brushed it off. But now, even if he didn't believe it, the seed of doubt would be planted in his heart.

To completely destroy Nicole, Aurora had to make Dean truly see Nicole for who she was. She wanted to see if Dean could endure raising someone else's daughter after his wife cheated on him.

Aurora got into the car, ignoring Dean's furious expression.

"Sis, why does he look so upset? What did you say to make him so angry?" Jack asked. He felt pleased upon seeing how upset Dean looked."I told him to look into Emily's parentage," Aurora said, coldly. "Idle hands do the devil's work, so let's make sure that those two women are too busy handling their own problems to bother me."

Jack was excited. "I really want to see those two women get kicked out."

Aurora said, "I'll take you back to the hospital."

She had only taken half the day off, so she had to go back to work in the afternoon. She was afraid she wouldn't make it in time, but if she didn't take Jack back, she'd be worried about him wandering around on his own.

At the hospital, Jack's attending doctor came and said that a heart specialist from abroad had arrived, and that they had found a matching heart for Jack. The surgery could be done soon.

This news shocked Aurora.

She was almost moved to tears.

She had waited for this day to come for a long time.

Jack had never found a suitable heart for surgery, and with his weak constitution, the success rate was very low. Aurora didn't dare to take the risk, so she had been keeping him alive with medication.

As she started to thank the attending doctor, he smiled and said, "There's no need to thank me. I didn't invite this specialist; I couldn't have."

"Then who did?" Aurora asked. She was puzzled, but then she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure going down the stairs.

John?

Aurora, driven by an inexplicable impulse, chased after him.

At the stairwell exit, Aurora shouted, "John, stop right there."
