Chapter 58 Loren's Rival in Love Is John
Loren's appearance left John stunned.
John immediately recognized the child who had called Aurora "Mommy" at the banquet.
"How is this kid here?" John asked instinctively, surprised.
Previously at the banquet, he had only seen the child from a distance and hadn't looked closely. When Loren appeared in front of John, he felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
Aurora's heart tightened, and she explained with a forced smile, "I brought him."
"Aurora, I need to go to the bathroom," Loren said, crossing his legs urgently. "I can't hold it anymore."
"Hold on a little longer, and I'll take you to the restroom right away," Aurora said, seeing Loren's face turning red with urgency.
The office was some distance from the public restroom, and Loren definitely couldn't hold it.
Aurora noticed that John's private restroom was open and said to him, "Mr. Lewis, can we use your restroom for an emergency?" She then picked up Loren and rushed into the restroom.
"Aurora," John managed to call out.
Aurora quickly helped Loren take off his pants. The toilet was too high, and Loren couldn't hold it any longer, so he peed all over the floor.
John followed them in and saw the mess but surprisingly didn't get angry.
Even he found it astonishing.
John had a cleanliness obsession; in the past, he would have thrown them out immediately.
Aurora cleaned the toilet and rinsed the urine off the floor, then helped Loren wash his hands.
The restroom was filled with the scent of body wash, and the steam hadn't dissipated yet.
John stood at the door, his gaze falling on Aurora as she helped Loren wash his hands. The scene was unexpectedly heartwarming, and he didn't want to disturb it.
After peeing, Loren looked relieved and dried his hands. "Aurora, can we go home now? I'm still really hungry."
Aurora wanted to leave, but the big boss was still there and hadn't said anything.
Aurora glanced at John and flashed a bright smile. "Mr. Lewis, may I leave now?"
John, worried that his scarred face might scare Loren, had already put on a mask.
"This child..." John stared at Loren and asked, "He teamed up with Henry to stage a play that almost ruined your reputation. How can he be with you?"
"Loren has no parents, and Henry is in jail. There's no one to take care of Loren. I found him adorable, so I adopted him," Aurora explained. "Loren is so young and can't tell right from wrong. I couldn't let him fall into the hands of bad people again."
John was surprised; he hadn't expected Aurora to adopt the child.
"You're unmarried and adopted a child. Doesn't your boyfriend mind?"
Aurora said frankly, "I've broken up with him."
John's eyebrows furrowed, and his expression turned cold under the mask.
Aurora's candidness, without a hint of lingering feelings in her tone, made John even more uncomfortable.
Suppressing his emotions, John asked, "But you will get married someday. How will you marry with a child?"
Aurora shrugged. "Who says a woman has to get married?"
After breaking up with John, Aurora hadn't planned on finding another man, let alone getting married.
With Loren, she felt her life was too fulfilling to need a man.
"Did you really break up with your boyfriend?" John asked knowingly, with a slight laugh. "Didn't you say you wouldn't marry anyone but him? Or were you lying to me back then?"
Aurora was in a dilemma. She couldn't discuss her personal feelings with John, nor could she admit she had lied to get away.
As Aurora struggled, Loren stared at her.
Loren also stared at John, hands on his hips. "Are you trying to pursue Aurora? Aurora is mine. She promised to marry me when I grow up. It's not gentlemanly to steal someone's beloved."
Aurora was dumbfounded. This kid even knew about love.
Loren looked at John with the eyes of a rival in love.
John smirked; Loren's defiant stance reminded him of Summer.
Aurora pulled Loren and gave John a forced smile. "Kids say the darndest things, Mr. Lewis. Don't take it seriously."
Then she said to Loren, "Loren, this is my boss, not someone pursuing me. You misunderstood."
She thought, 'Mr. Lewis pursuing me?'
'The thought alone was terrifying.'
Aurora didn't want to die. Even if marrying John, as Diana suggested, had many benefits, including possibly inheriting his fortune, she needed to stay alive to enjoy it.
Seeing Aurora's expression, as if she was afraid of any association with him, John's face darkened further. He said, "Let's go."
"Can I leave now?" Aurora asked, delighted.
John replied, "I'm hungry, too. Let's go together."
"What? Together?"
"What? Shouldn't you treat your boss to a meal since you work at my company? " John spoke as if giving her a chance to curry favor with her superior, and she should be grateful.
Aurora was stunned. 'Treat my boss to a meal?'
'Wasn't it usually the boss who treated the employees?'
She didn't have the money to treat her boss to a meal.
But John's words carried a certain threat, and Aurora didn't dare refuse.
This was John, the head of the Lewis family, her big boss.
"Of course," Aurora said, her smile more rigid than a cry.
As soon as she finished speaking, John pulled off the towel around his waist in front of her, startling Aurora into quickly turning her head and covering Loren's eyes.
Only then did she realize that John was wearing shorts underneath.
Realizing she had been tricked, Aurora took Loren's hand and said, "Mr. Lewis, we'll wait for you outside."
"Okay," John replied coldly, reminding her, "Don't run away. This isn't the first time you've done it."
She had even dared to run away from a wedding; running away from a meal would be a piece of cake.
Aurora said nothing and took Loren outside.
She wanted to run, but did she dare?
Her job depended on John's mood now.
John watched Aurora and Loren leave, a smile unconsciously forming on his lips.
John got dressed and went out to find Aurora holding Loren, waiting obediently.
John didn't have Sam drive today; he drove himself.
Aurora already knew his leg wasn't really crippled, so there was no need to hide it from her.
Aurora and Loren got into John's luxury car, which was very spacious. Loren looked at John's mask with curiosity. "Uncle John, why are you wearing a mask? It's so cool. Can I see it?"
Aurora remembered John's scarred face. If his face were fine, who would want to wear a mask?
Taking off the mask would definitely scare Loren.
Aurora realized that John had put on the mask after seeing Loren.
He was afraid of scaring Loren.
She hadn't expected John to be so considerate.
John's mouth twitched and asked, "Why do you call me Uncle John but call her by her name?"
