Chapter 136 Fake pregnancy
John was floored by what Aurora did. She snatched up the phone and blurted out, "Jack, that you?"
Yep, it was Jack alright.
Jack had been MIA for a bit. Even though John kept telling her Jack was cool, Aurora was still stressing.
"Aurora, it's me," Jack chirped. "I'm good. Just wanted to let you know, chill out."
"Where you at?" Aurora asked, finally feeling a bit better.
"Can't say right now. But don't sweat it, I'll be back soon," Jack said. "No need to come looking for me."
"Did the Wolfpack Organization grab you? You hurt?" Aurora had a million questions.
"Yeah, but they treated me alright."
Aurora heard someone calling Jack in the background. "Aurora, gotta bounce," Jack said.
"Jack," Aurora called out, but the line went dead.
Hearing from Jack took a load off Aurora's mind.
John rolled out of bed and hugged Aurora. "Don't overthink it, Aurora..."
"I'm kinda beat," Aurora cut him off, her head too scrambled to talk about marriage.
She gave John a smile. "Let's chat another time."
John looked at her, lips tight. "Alright."
Next morning, Aurora woke up to a racket downstairs. She peeked over the balcony and saw excavators tearing up the backyard.
James was bossing people around, and the staff were moving flower pots and yanking out weeds.
"Ms. White," Lenora knocked and walked in, grinning. "You're up. Mrs. Lewis is waiting for you to have breakfast."
"Okay, I'll freshen up and come down," Aurora said. "What's all the commotion downstairs? Renovating the backyard?"
Lenora grinned. "Mr. Lewis is digging a pond 'cause you like water lilies. He wants to plant them for you. He's really sweet on you."
Aurora remembered mentioning wanting a pond for water lilies and fish during a meal with John. She had forgotten, but he hadn't.
Feeling all warm and fuzzy, Aurora asked, "Where's John?"
"Dr. Collins took him," Lenora replied.
Aurora nodded and went to get ready. When she came downstairs, she saw Jane also heading for breakfast.
They met at the stairs.
Jane stuck out her belly, clearly showing off her pregnancy.
"Morning, Ms. White," Jane said smugly. "My belly's getting huge, and it's tough to move. Being pregnant ain't easy, but you wouldn't know."
Aurora raised an eyebrow. Was she flexing?
Aurora had been pregnant with twins before Jane. She had brutal morning sickness and almost puked up everything she ate.
Aurora glanced at Jane's belly and smiled. "Ms. Torres, your belly's pretty big for four months. Twins, maybe?"
Jane's eyes flickered. "I've been eating a lot, so the baby grows fast. Nothing weird about that."
"Oh, gotcha," Aurora said, smiling.
"Lloyd said he'd take good care of us once the baby is born," Jane said arrogantly. "Ms. White, I once married into the Lewis family, while you bailed on the wedding. You got no status, just John's promises."
So it was Lloyd's promise that made her so smug.
"Yeah, yeah, you're totally right," Aurora smiled. "So, take good care of yourself and have a smooth delivery."
"Of course," Jane said, stroking her belly proudly.
Aurora stepped aside. "Ms. Torres, you go first, so we don't bump into each other."
Jane gave Aurora a haughty look and slowly made her way downstairs, holding her back.
Following behind, Aurora wondered how Jane's belly could be so big if she wasn't actually pregnant.
As they hit the last step, Aurora suddenly yelled, "Ms. Torres, watch out!"
"Ah!" Jane freaked out and missed a step.
"Ms. Torres," Aurora reached out to grab Jane's hand and, with her other hand, touched her belly. It felt hard and cold.
Aurora immediately realized it was something like rubber.
After Jane steadied herself, she saw Aurora touching her belly and pushed her away in a panic. "What are you doing?"
Aurora smiled. "If I hadn't caught you, you would've taken a nasty spill."
Helen heard the ruckus and came over. "What's going on?"
Aurora said, "Helen, Ms. Torres almost fell. Maybe Dr. Collins should check on her."
"No need," Jane quickly said. If Gary examined her, her secret would be blown wide open.
Jane knew Helen didn't like her and would side with Aurora. She wasn't sure if Aurora had discovered anything and didn't want to risk it.
"Mom, I'm fine. Ms. White caught me, so it's all good. Let's have breakfast."
Helen glanced at Jane's belly. Jane had already been to the hospital twice since she came back. "As long as you're fine. Let's eat."
Aurora didn't say anything more. She just wanted to make Jane sweat.
The two accompanied Helen for breakfast. With Lloyd's birthday coming up, Helen had a ton of stuff to handle.
"Aurora, after breakfast, come with me to the hotel. I might miss something if I go alone."
Aurora hesitated. "Helen, I need to go to Meadow Brook Villa later. Summer and Loren are still there."
Jane's eyes lit up. "Mom, I have time. I'll go with you."
"You're heavily pregnant; it's inconvenient. What if you get hurt?" Helen didn't agree and then said to Aurora, "Then pick up Summer and Loren and bring them along. They can play while we handle things. I like those two kids."
"Okay." Aurora was reluctant, but since Helen had said so, she couldn't refuse.
Aurora wondered how Helen would react if she knew Summer and Loren's true identities.
She could only take things as they came.
At the hospital, Emily looked at her severed finger and angrily smashed the TV in the room to vent her frustration.
"Aurora, you bitch, I won't let this go!" Emily screamed and roared like a madwoman.
Doctors and nurses kept their distance.
Emily's eyes were filled with hatred, and she clenched the bedsheet tightly, vowing to make Aurora pay.
At that moment, the door opened.
Daniel walked in. Before Emily could express her joy, Daniel placed a divorce agreement on the table and said coldly, "Sign it. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other. If you drag me down any further, I won't even be able to keep my current position, let alone inherit the Taylor family."
Daniel was originally an illegitimate child.
"You want a divorce?" Emily was stunned for a moment, then tore up the divorce agreement and grabbed Daniel's hand, looking crazed. "I won't divorce. Daniel, you can't do this to me. I can help you. Isn't Lloyd 's 70th birthday coming up? I have a way to redeem ourselves."
"Stop talking nonsense. Tearing up the divorce agreement won't help. I have more copies." Daniel took out another one.
Emily shook her head. "No, Daniel, I really have a way. Loren must be Aurora's son. You can do a paternity test."
