Chapter 257 Alexander's Fake Death

After hesitating for a few seconds, Aurora answered the call. She deliberately remained silent, waiting for John to speak first. "Aurora, I'm waiting for you at the hotel entrance. I want to take you somewhere."

The familiar voice came through the phone, and Aurora felt an inexplicable sensation in her heart.

In fact, they weren't exactly in a cold war, and she didn't intend to blame John anymore. After all, there was no need.

However, there were two lives between them, and to say there were no feelings at all would be a lie.

They had been too smooth before, with the only setbacks being some rumors. As long as they trusted each other, rumors could be ignored, but not the grudges of the previous generation.

Matthew was the one who gave John life, while Alexander was the one who gave Aurora life.

Alexander killed Matthew, and this grudge was not easy to be solved. So a period of separation, allowing each to cool off, would be beneficial for both of them.

Aurora hung up the phone and said to Helen, "Mom, how about I take you back to the hospital first?"

Helen shook her head. "No need, I can go back by myself. You hurry downstairs; John is waiting for you. As long as you two are good, I feel at ease."

"Okay." Aurora smiled, "I should do this anyway just for your breakfast."

"If you like it, I'll make it for you myself when we get back home. I make great sandwiches that Jonh loved most."

"Really? Then how about teaching me someday?"

"Sure, I'll definitely do."

Aurora talked with Helen for a while before going downstairs to meet John.

John was waiting in the car. When he saw Aurora coming down, he quickly got out and opened the car door. "Aurora."

They had only been apart for just a few days, but meeting again felt like they were a couple in love, with a clear sense of excitement and joy.

"Where are you taking me?" Aurora got in the car.

Feigning mystery, John said, "I won't tell you yet. You'll know when we get there."

"You and your mom are really alike; you both love surprises."

"My mom?"

"Our mom." Aurora pointed upstairs, "Helen just brought me breakfast. She said she sneaked out and told me not to tell on her."

John said, "I'll have Sam take her back to the hospital. It looks like I need to assign more people to watch over her."

They hadn't seen each other for a few days, and both tacitly avoided mentioning Alexander and Matthew, though both were thinking about it.

The car started, and John drove towards the cemetery.

Aurora didn't know where they were going at first. After the route heading towards the cemetery, she glanced at John in confusion but didn't ask.

As the car moved, John suddenly spoke, "I've found the financial advisor your father hired back then. He has admitted that he deliberately caused the brake failure, leading to the accident."

Hearing this, Aurora felt a chill over her body. "So, it wasn't Alexander who killed your dad?"

"No."

Aurora paused for a moment. It wasn't Alexander who killed Matthew, but Alexander committed suicide out of guilt because of it.

If it weren't for this, Alexander wouldn't have died.

Aurora's mind was in chaos as she couldn't accept it.

At this moment, her palm suddenly warmed as John held her hand. "Aurora, I know you're feeling terrible and can't accept it right now. I'm taking you to see someone. You'll feel better after you see them."

As it turned out, John had never lied to Aurora, except for hiding his identity when they first met.

At the cemetery, John led Aurora directly to Wendy's grave.

From a distance, Aurora saw a man cleaning her mother's grave. The man seemed to be tired as he stopped for a rest and placed a wildflower on her mother's grave.

The man was none other than Alexander, who had committed suicide out of guilt.

"What's going on?" Aurora was shocked. "John, look, isn't that Alexander? Am I seeing wrong?"

"You're not seeing wrong. That is your dad." John said, "Actually, your dad faked his death. It was a play we put on together."

"A play?" Aurora was confused. "What's going on?"

"Your dad wanted to retire, to truly retire and the only way was to fake his death. When everyone believed he was dead, neither old friends nor enemies would come for trouble. He could have a peaceful life. His wish was to clean your mom's grave and spend time with her." As John said, he extended his arm to hold Aurora as they looked towards Alexander. "He's my father-in-law. How could I not fulfill his request?"

Alexander saw them too and waved from Wendy's grave before sitting down to begin to engage in idle chatter in front of Wendy's photograph.

Aurora snapped out of her shock and waved back at Alexander without going over to disturb him.

Alexander wasn't dead and had found the peaceful life he wanted. It was a happy ending for everyone.

"John, you even kept this from me." Aurora pretended to be angry and reached out to twist John's ear.

"Honey, go easy. Dad is watching." John said, but he willingly bent down to let Aurora twist his ear.

Aurora didn't really hurt him; she was just putting on a show, "Even Sandra knew, but I didn't. Am I less important than Sandra?"

"Honey, that's not fair. This was your dad's idea. He said he wanted to temper your character. It wasn't my fault."

"So, you think I have a bad temper too?"

John paused for a moment, realizing he had said the wrong thing again.

They exchanged playful banter while leaving.

Alexander sat by Wendy's grave, watching them leave with a smile. He then gently stroked the tombstone, reminiscing. "Wendy, we were this happy too. It's all my fault for not cherishing it."

Alexander regretted it deeply, but he was satisfied with the current outcome.

At least Wendy left him a daughter, and his daughter found a husband who cherished her.

While Alexander was grateful for the daughter Wendy left him, Aurora was plotting revenge.

Alexander and John had tricked her, so she prepared a big gift in return. Aurora delivered all the letters her mother had left in the redwood box to Alexander.

Each letter was like a knife to the heart. Alexander cried every time he read one, holding Wendy's tombstone and complaining, "Aurora is too cruel."

Aurora was pleased to hear that Alexander had cried several times at her mother's grave.

John shivered beside her.

They were truly father and daughter, each more ruthless than the other.

Aurora moved back into the Meadowbrook villa, and the family was reunited. Lloyd even wanted to move in.

At night, after eating and drinking her fill, Aurora lay on the sofa eating fruit. Her legs were a bit swollen, and John massaged them.

Aurora received a message from Chris, asking her about Emily.

John saw Aurora frown and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Chris is asking to release Emily." Aurora said, "I almost forgot about it these past few days."

"If we can settle things, releasing Emily isn't out of the question." John said, "Emily is about to give birth. If she hasn't learned her lesson by now, it's not our fault."

"Are you willing to write a letter of understanding and release Emily?"
