Chapter 359: Silencing

"Hand over the photos." John demanded, his voice cold and unyielding.

His eyes were swollen from the fight with the Lion organization last night, and his face bore other injuries. With a stern expression, John looked particularly terrifying.

"In my phone," Angela stammered, her voice trembling. "It is in my bag."

When Sam brought her in, Angela's bag was still with her.

John rummaged through the bag and found the phone. When he saw that the photo on Angela's phone screen was of him, he showed no reaction. Angela, however, nervously and shyly glanced at John, trying to gauge his reaction.

The photo on the phone screen was her secret. She never let Wade see her phone because of this secret.

She had always admired John. Being Wade's girlfriend was just a way to get closer to John.

The secret Angela carefully guarded was worthless and meaningless in John's eyes.

John asked flatly, "Phone password."

Angela immediately gave him the password.

John unlocked the phone and opened the photo album. Angela's album contained many photos of him, all taken from magazines or TV.

John frowned and found the most recent photo Angela had taken.

Angela had only captured the side profile of the person, but it was enough.

John instantly recognized the person in the photo, someone he never expected.

Paul.

"Mr. Lewis, let me see."

Todd leaned in for a look but didn't recognize the person. "Mr. Lewis, who is this? When did Nightfall offend this person?"

"A deranged suitor of Aurora," John replied, holding the phone and asking Angela, "Is this the person who kidnapped my son?"

"Yes," Angela nodded. "He blended into the crowd at the school gate when it was crowded after school. He took the child when Mr. Helen Lewis wasn't paying attention. But I suspect he originally intended to target Summer."

A baby less than three months old is easier to handle than a six-year-old child.

Paul changed his mind at the last minute and took Jax.

If Helen hadn't taken Trey and Jax to pick up Summer from school, Paul wouldn't have had the chance to take Jax.

Knowing who kidnapped the child, Angela was no longer valuable. John ordered coldly, "Take her to the police."

Falsifying testimony, concealing the truth, and obstructing police work were enough to keep Angela in jail for a year or two.

Hearing she was being taken to the police, Angela panicked. "Mr. Lewis, I've told the truth. Why are you still sending me to the police? Mr. Lewis, please forgive me this time. I won't dare to do it again. I didn't intend to falsify testimony; I just planned to reveal it later, really."

Angela indeed planned to wait. The longer Jax was missing, the more anxious the Lewis family would become. Her information would become more valuable, and the Lewis family would feel more indebted to her. John would then notice her.

John remained unmoved, his tone icy. "I was too merciful before."

Because of his mercy, Helen died tragically. It was already lenient of him not to have Angela buried with her.

Sam immediately carried out the order and took Angela to the police.

Meanwhile, John received a call from his secretary, Isla. "Mr. Lewis, the company's account books have been stolen. It was done by a new employee named Paul. He's a classmate of Ms. White. We didn't expect this to happen."

John's expression grew colder. He hung up the phone and ordered those around him, "Bring Paul to me within an hour."

Paul, knowing the situation had been exposed, had already packed up and fled, using his position to steal the company's account books.

Paul had just left his rental apartment when he heard police sirens heading in that direction.

Paul broke out in a cold sweat, feeling nervous and panicked.

Clio was also scared. "Paul, what do we do now? The police are here."

"Don't panic. Wait, I'll call that person."

Paul dialed a number. It rang for a long time before someone answered. Paul urgently voiced, "The police are here. You have to help me."

"The police are there, and you're calling me? Do you want to drag me down with you?"

"We're in this together. You've already taken the child. You can't be ungrateful. If I get caught, you won't escape either."

Paul threatened, "Give me five million dollars immediately and arrange for me to leave Silvercrest City. I need to go abroad to lay low."

There was a moment of silence on the other end before the person agreed, "Alright, bank transactions aren't safe now. I'll send someone with the money and arrange for your departure. Hide for now. Meet at the bypass highway in an hour."

"Fine, don't trick me. Get the money here quickly."

The call ended, and Paul had no choice but to follow the instructions.

Clio asked anxiously, "Could it be a trap? Will that person really give you five million dollars? Paul, I'm scared. I don't want to go."

Clio wanted to back out. She knew that if she continued with Paul, there would be no turning back.

"If you're scared, don't come. I'll enjoy the five million dollars alone."

Having one less person meant less risk, and Paul didn't want to take Clio along.

Paul was already fantasizing about living a lavish life abroad with the money. Once abroad, he would find a chance to sell the account books and never worry about money again.

The account books of AJ Group would surely attract a lot of interest.

On the outskirts, in an abandoned factory, Sandra coldly smiled and asked the people behind her, "Have the Lion people come back?"

As soon as she finished speaking, there was a commotion outside. The Lion people had arrived.

Eight people, all injured to varying degrees.

Beck, the leader, was the most seriously injured.

Sandra was quite surprised. "You are international mercenaries, and John injured you this badly?"

Beck felt ashamed. "We failed the mission. We couldn't kill John. We'll return half the money you paid us. The other half will cover my friends' medical expenses."

"Kill John?" Sandra's expression changed, and she spoke angrily, "Who told you to kill John? I only asked you to stop him from returning to the city. Who told you to kill him? If anyone dares to kill him, I'll kill them."

The Lion members looked at each other. Beck asked, "Didn't you tell someone to tell me to kill John?"

Sandra was furious. "I went to great lengths to set up this plan. If John dies, all my efforts will be in vain. I want John to despise Aurora, to hate Aurora. I had Helen killed, and then you were supposed to kill John. What would be the point of all this?"

Beck replied, "That's your business. I take your money and do the job."

Sandra was livid. Fortunately, John wasn't dead; otherwise, it would have been all for nothing.

She decided not to pursue the matter for now. "Beck, you don't need to return the remaining money. Do me another favor. Go to the bypass highway and take care of someone for me. Eliminate the witness."
