Chapter 34 If You Have the Guts, Bite Me
"Oops."
Aurora suddenly exclaimed.
"What happened?" Emily was startled.
Aurora stared at Emily's face. "Such a long fine line, those dark circles, eye bags, and a few spots on your nose."
"Where?Where?" Emily panicked upon hearing this and quickly took out a mirror from her bag, but she didn't see the dark circles or spots Aurora mentioned.
Realizing she had been tricked, Emily was furious. "Aurora, you're messing with me."
"Yes, I am messing with you." Aurora smiled coolly. "Don't try to please me. If you don't want to get beaten or upset, stay away from me."
Emily was infuriated but remembered her purpose for coming. She suppressed her anger and said, "Aurora, it was all a misunderstanding before. No matter what, we're both daughters of the White family. There's no conflict between sisters that can't be resolved."
"I've severed ties with Dean and the White family. What kind of sisters are we?" Aurora sneered. "As for whether you have any ties with the White family, that's even more uncertain."
"What do you mean, Aurora?" Emily felt a bit panicked and thought, 'Could Aurora know I was Percy's illegitimate daughter?'
'No, Aurora couldn't possibly know.'
Emily steadied herself and avoided looking into Aurora's eyes. "Actually, Dad sent me here today. Is it true that the Robinson family wants to adopt you?"
So, she was here to inquire about this.
"What, are you jealous?"
Aurora's words stabbed at Emily's heart.
Emily was indeed insanely jealous, having barely slept all night.
Why did all the good things fall into Aurora's lap?
"Why would the Robinson family want to adopt you? I think Kevin was just saying it casually. I'm here to advise you not to take it too seriously, or you'll be even more disappointed because it'll be a big joke."
"Oh?" Aurora smiled. "Some people are bound to be disappointed. Kevin really does want to adopt me. By the way, you must come to the adoption ceremony. I'll personally send you an invitation."
Emily gritted her teeth. "What? Kevin is too foolish. Why would he adopt you?"
"Jealous?" Aurora laughed. "Your jealousy won't change anything. Kevin's adopted daughter is me, not you."
Emily's face twisted with rage, and her hands clenched tightly, nails digging into her flesh, the fire of jealousy in her eyes seemingly ready to consume her.
"Aurora, don't be too happy too soon. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Kevin might have other motives."
"I understand. You are jealous!" Aurora smirked. "Instead of worrying about me, you should worry about yourself. Have you secured your position as Daniel's wife?"
Mentioning this only made Emily more furious.
Emily had been married to Daniel for so long, but apart from their wedding night, they hadn't even shared a bed.
"Are you still thinking about Daniel? I know he went to see you last night. What did you two do?" Emily grabbed Aurora's arm. "Did you throw him into the sea? How could you be so heartless? He almost drowned, spending the whole night in the water."
The whole night?
With Daniel's swimming skills, he couldn't have been in the water all night.
"He deserves it!. Even the God couldn't stand it." Aurora lost her patience. "I have things to do. If you want to throw a tantrum, go find your Daniel."
With only two hours for a lunch break, she didn't want to waste time on Emily.
A taxi approached, and Aurora waved it down, opened the door, and got in. "Sir, Central Hospital."
"Aurora, don't go. Are you feeling guilty? You shameless woman dare to seduce my husband."
The car started, and Aurora completely ignored Emily's words.
Ten minutes later, the car stopped at the hospital entrance.
Aurora saw a familiar car at the hospital entrance, the same one she had taken to Meadow Brook Villa last night.
Could Mr. Lewis be at the hospital too?
Aurora prayed she wouldn't run into him, but the more you feared something, the more likely it was to happen.
Aurora took the elevator to the eighth floor of the inpatient department. As she passed a ward, she heard a familiar voice.
"Uncle Rex, take care of your injury. Don't get too worked up and take care of your health."
Wasn't that Mr. Lewis' voice?
Aurora instinctively stopped and peeked inside. She saw John, with a scarred face, sitting on the sofa by the bed with a cane, and Sam and Tyler standing beside him.
Rex was lying on the bed, his forehead wrapped in bandages, his leg in a cast, and an oxygen mask on his face. His injuries seemed serious.
John's words sounded caring, but the underlying warning was clear to everyone.
This was adding insult to injury, deliberately provoking.
Rex's eyes widened in anger. He stared at John, but he couldn't speak.
Opposite John sat an elderly man with white hair, exuding authority and dignity. This was John's grandfather, Lloyd Lewis.
Lloyd frowned and glanced at Rex with displeasure. "Rex, John is right. You should focus on recovering. Leave the company matters to John for now."
John was in charge of the Lewis Group, but many rights had been divided among the collateral branches.
Hearing that John had taken his power, Rex became even more agitated and removed his oxygen mask. "Dad, my injury is not serious. I can be discharged in a few days. John has mobility issues and poor health. Don't let him overwork."
Lloyd stood up. "It's settled. You focus on recovering in the hospital. John, come with me."
"Yes, Grandpa." John stood up with his cane.
Lloyd wasn't senile. He had a good idea of what happened last night.
The power struggle among the Lewis family descendants had been ongoing for a long time.
Seeing John and the others coming out, Aurora quickly walked away.
John and Lloyd walked out together, and John glanced in Aurora's direction.
He had noticed Aurora the moment she appeared.
John accompanied Lloyd out of the hospital. Lloyd felt guilty seeing John limping.
John was the grandson Lloyd had personally groomed, the most satisfactory and outstanding successor.
"John, I'm getting old. I don't want to see my children die before me."
This meant he acknowledged the struggle between John and Rex but didn't want it to result in death.
John's tone was cold. "Yes, Grandpa."
If it weren't for Lloyd, Rex wouldn't be alive today.
Lloyd sighed. "John, you're not young anymore. Let me arrange a marriage for you so I can have a great-grandchild soon."
John coldly smirked. "Grandpa, every woman who marries me dies mysteriously. Let's not harm anyone else. Besides, not many in the Lewis family want me to have children."
Lloyd's face turned cold, and he said sternly, "If anyone dares to cause trouble again, I won't let them off."
John remained silent, and Lloyd knew his words were ineffective.
His children and grandchildren were all dear to him. With nine sons, five daughters, and dozens of grandchildren, he couldn't stop them from fighting to the death.
Lloyd's expression softened, and he smiled. "John, how about this? Find a woman outside and have a great-grandchild for me. Then bring them back, and let's see who dares to cause trouble. Don't worry. I'll keep it a secret."
