Chapter 287 Is It Time to Have the Wedding?

Todd had an inexplicable feeling.

The murder case was still under investigation. Lori sat idly under a tree. No matter how she tried to talk to Todd, he ignored her.

At this moment, Allan walked over and said, "Let's go."

Lori asked, "Did you find the killer?"

"We've collected everything we need. The rest is up to the professionals," Allan said, looking at Lori. He suddenly asked, "Ms. Hernandez, what do you think about this murder case?"

Before Lori could speak, Todd interjected, "Allan, asking her is useless."

"Todd, what do you mean?" Lori flexed her wrist. "Don't think that just because you have Mr. Jennings backing you, I won't dare to touch you."

Todd ducked behind Allan and said, "See, you can have her use her hands, but as for using her brain, forget it."

Allan asked, "You two know each other?"

Allan had noticed they knew each other but hadn't had the chance to ask.

"We've known each other for years," Todd said. "I heard you want to invite her to join your detective team. I advise you to reconsider."

Provoked by Todd, Lori immediately said, "Mr. Jennings, I've thought about it, and I'm willing to join your detective team."

Lori gave Todd a look, warning him not to push her into taking Allan away.

Allan extended his hand and said, "Welcome, Ms. Hernandez. By the way, we need to go through a process. You have to sign up first, then take an assessment. If you pass, we'll be colleagues."

Lori whispered. "Mr. Jennings, aren't you going to pull some strings for me?"

Allan shook his head seriously. "This is a fair and just assessment. No cheating is allowed. If discovered, you'll never be hired. Ms. Hernandez, I believe you can do it."

Lori forced a smile and suddenly felt very regretful.

Allan looked at Todd. "I'm very busy today and can't accompany you, because I have to go back to the office. You go ahead."

Actually, Allan meant he didn't have time to go drinking with Todd, but to Lori, it sounded like a boyfriend talking to his girlfriend.

Todd caught Lori's curious look and felt both amused and helpless.

"Alright, I'll go then. Call me when you're free," Todd said deliberately, making Lori misunderstand. He also straightened Allan's clothes. "Your clothes are crooked."

Allan felt that something was off about Todd's behaviour, but he didn't realize it.

Todd looked at Lori. "Where are you going? How about I give you a ride?"

"I'll go with Mr. Jennings," Lori said, holding the orange cat. "Mr. Jennings, I don't understand much about the assessment. Can you explain it to me later?"

"Sure," Allan said eagerly.

After all the fuss, Allan ended up leaving with Lori.

As Allan drove out of the neighborhood, he asked, "Ms. Hernandez, how did you meet Todd?"

"Once, I went to steal..." Lori realized she had misspoken and quickly covered it up. "Once, I was playing basketball, and accidentally hit Todd on the head with the ball. That's how we met."

This was a complete lie. The real story of how she met Todd was unforgettable.

Once, Lori took a job to steal a top-secret document from a business tycoon.

It was at a banquet. Lori had already stolen the document but was intercepted by Todd.

However, she had hidden the USB drive in her chest, and Todd didn't find it as she was handcuffed to the bathroom door. The mission was accomplished, but they became enemies.

Since then, whenever she saw Todd, she would pick a fight.

Allan gave Lori a deep look. "Todd is not someone who likes sports."

The chances of meeting someone who didn't like sports at a sports venue were very slim. Allan's professional instincts kicked in.

Lori said, "Mr. Jennings, not eating apples doesn't mean you don't like them. Not liking sports doesn't mean you can't go to a sports venue. With your logic, everything must have a reasonable explanation. Then your relationship with Todd is unreasonable. Liking someone has no reason..."

"What did you just say?" Allan suddenly interrupted Lori excitedly.

Lori said, "I said liking someone..."

Allan claimed, "No, the sentence before that."

Lori asked, "Everything must have a reasonable explanation?"

Allan said, "The one before that!"

Lori said, "Not eating apples doesn't mean you don't like them..."

"Yes, that's it," Allan said excitedly. "During the initial examination, we found paint on the victim. She was a dance student. Why would she have paint on her? And why are there so many paintbrushes at her home?"

"How would I know?" Lori was not interested in using her brain or the case.

"Because someone likes to paint, and this person must be very important to the victim," Allan said as he wasimmersed in his own speculation, very excited.

Lori had no interest at all.

At a certain intersection, Lori said, "Mr. Jennings, let me get off here. I just remembered I have something to do."

Allan was eager to investigate the case and didn't think much of it. "Okay."

After the car stopped and Lori got out, Allan said, "Ms. Hernandez, you look very beautiful today. I'm looking forward to working with you."

Allan chose Lori because he found her unique. If there could be further development, that would be even better.

Lori had already labeled Allan as "Todd's man." She didn't catch the compliment and said, "Mr. Jennings, you're very handsome too."

She even thought Allan and Todd standing together looked perfect.

Allan smiled.

Lori thought it was a pity that such a good man was gay.

Todd was really her nemesis. She finally found a man she liked, and Todd took him away.

Lori called Aurora and found out she had returned to the Lewis family estate.

John was at home taking care of the kids. The two kids were so well-behaved with him, unlike when Aurora was around.

Lori told Aurora about her decision to sign up for the assessment. John, listening nearby, reminded her, "Lori, you'd better take care of the things you did before. If they come to light, you'll go straight to jail."

Lori didn't care. "Don't worry, they won't find out. Ava and I never caused trouble for the police."

Seeing Lori so confident, John didn't say more. He looked at Aurora and said, "Honey, it's time we had our wedding."
