Chapter 166 Spending a Fortune for a Man

Another rival in love had appeared.

Aurora stayed quiet while Jennifer kept going, "John, I'm not feeling well. Can you come to the airport to pick me up?"

She couldn't let Jennifer have the floor forever.

So Aurora asked, "Are you Jennifer? Weren't you dead?"

Hearing Aurora's voice, there was a long silence on the other end.

"Yes, I'm Jennifer. Who are you?" Jennifer's voice was soft, the kind that could make your bones melt.

Aurora's tone was calm, with a hint of a smile. "John is my man. Who do you think I am?"

Just then, John came out of the bathroom. Aurora didn't care about Jennifer's reaction and tossed the phone to John, "Your very close female friend, Jennifer, has come back to life."

John paused for a moment, thinking Aurora was joking, "Aurora—"

Before John could finish, Aurora turned around to get her clothes and went into the bathroom to change.

The call was still connected. John held the phone. "Who are you? What nonsense are you spouting in front of my girlfriend?"

"John, it's me, Jennifer. Can't you recognize my voice?"

"Jennifer? Is it really you?" John's eyes flickered, "Weren't you dead?"

Indeed, they were a family; John and Aurora's words were exactly the same.

Jennifer was silent for a moment and said, "John, I'm at the airport."

In the bathroom.

Aurora was leaning against the door, her ear pressed against it.

She had been very generous when she threw the phone to John, but now she was eavesdropping.

Listening for a while but hearing nothing, she quietly opened the door a bit and peeked out, only to find that John was no longer there.

The sound of a car starting came from downstairs.

Aurora walked to the balcony and saw John driving away.

In a man's heart, the first woman he had feelings for was always unforgettable.

When Jane came to the family with a pregnant belly, John didn't react at all. Now, with just one call from Jennifer, John immediately ran off.

Aurora felt a bit hurt.

After changing her clothes, Aurora grabbed her car keys and left in style.

Lenora asked, "Ms. White, aren't you having lunch?"

"No." Aurora took a few steps and then said, "Tell John when he comes back that I won't be living here anymore."

After saying that, Aurora felt it was a bit inappropriate and added, "No, never mind."

Aurora originally wanted to take her two sons out for lunch, but after calling, she found out that Leo had taken Loren out, and Summer was still at the Nightfall branch.

Aurora suddenly felt a sense of abandonment.

Even Sophia had plans with someone.

Just when Aurora didn't know who to have lunch with, Dean called her.

Dean said, "Aurora, have you eaten? How about having lunch with me?"

"Send the address to my phone." Aurora agreed readily, which surprised Dean a bit.

Dean had crafted numerous persuasions in his mind, but before he could, Aurora had already agreed.

"Okay, I'll send you the address right away." Dean was very pleased.

Half an hour later.

Villa Kitchen.

Aurora looked at the table full of dishes and then at Dean's smiling face. "What's the occasion today? You thought of inviting me to lunch? And you specifically chose Villa Kitchen."

Having not seen him for a while, Aurora found that Dean had gained some weight. His face was rosy, indicating he was living a comfortable life.

Dean smiled, "You and John's marriage have almost been settled. This is a big deal, so we naturally have to celebrate with a meal."

Dean hadn't attended Lloyd's birthday banquet, but he had heard about what happened there.

"Don't mention John to me." Aurora's face turned cold. Just thinking about John made her inexplicably angry.

"What happened? Did you two have an argument?" Dean, being experienced in such matters, could tell right away that the young couple had quarreled. "Aurora, sometimes you can't just follow your own temper. John is the head of the prestigious Lewis Family in SilverCrest City. He even accepted Summer and Loren as his sons. This kind of affection is rare, so you should be content."

"Why are you sticking up for him?" Aurora snapped. "You just want to be in-laws with the Lewis Family, so of course, you're on his side. Don't forget, we've cut ties. Don't even think about using my name to ask John for anything."

"Oh, now you're defending John?" Dean chuckled. "Relax, I've come to terms with it. I won't use your name to ask the Lewis Family for anything. I have my pride."

Dean knew his place.

It was Dean who suggested severing ties. After being humiliated several times, he wouldn't shamelessly use the Lewis Family's name to gain benefits; that would be even more degrading.

Actually, with Aurora being with John, Dean didn't need to do anything. As long as he was Aurora's biological father, he could thrive in social circles.

Surprised, Aurora gave a glance at Dean and smirked, "It's really unbelievable. Hearing you say that is quite rare."

Aurora was genuinely hungry and sat down to eat without any reservations.

Aurora had been getting hungry easily lately.

She had just eaten some fruit at the Lewis Family and was hungry again.

Dean poured Aurora a drink and drank some wine himself, sighing, "It's been a long time since we, as father and daughter, have sat down quietly for a meal. Nicole used to badmouth you in my ear all the time, and I actually believed her. After Nicole went to prison, I finally had some peace and clarity. Looking back over the past ten years, I feel I owe you a lot."

Aurora was somewhat moved by these words.

The more heartless and cold Dean had been to her before, the more poignant these words felt now.

Aurora stared at Dean for a while. His hair had turned quite white; he had aged.

Aurora took a deep breath, and in that moment, she felt all the grievances and resentment of the past decade dissipate.

She felt relieved.

"Let's have a drink." Aurora grabbed some wine and poured it. "Why drink soda today? Let's drink wine."

Aurora filled Dean's glass and then her own. "Dad, I want to thank you. Thank you for not selling or killing my two children, allowing them to return to me."

Aurora had no hint of sarcasm or mockery; she was genuinely grateful that Dean had some conscience back then.

Dean filled with shame. He glared at Aurora and said sternly, "Is this how you thank me? You're mocking me."

Aurora laughed, and placed her hand on Dean's shoulder in a friendly manner. "I really am grateful. Come on, let's drink. I was also happy you are free from suffering, free from Nicole."

Dean was laughing too, his eyes widened. "By the way, on your wedding day, you must invite me to the celebration."

"Okay, got it." Aurora downed a glass of Zinfandel. "Refreshing."

Dean also took a big gulp. They drank one glass after another, and as they drank more, they became more talkative.

Dean, smiling, said, "Aurora, let me tell you a secret. I've found a new girlfriend, twenty years younger than me."

"Isn't that robbing the cradle? Dean, that's pretty unethical." Aurora, drunk, really started treating Dean like a buddy.

Dean laughed heartily, "It's a late-life romance. I'll introduce her to you sometime."

"Sure, I'll help you vet her." Aurora poured more wine. "Come on, drink."

They drank at Villa Kitchen from noon until the afternoon. They were so drunk they couldn't even sit up straight, slumped over the table.

Not knowing how long had passed, Aurora regained a bit of clarity and realized it was already dark outside. She suddenly stood up. "Oh no, it's dark now. I need to go home and find my sons."

Aurora staggered out of the private room, while Dean was sprawled out on a chair, asleep.

Aurora's steps were unsteady, and she stumbled as she walked.

Suddenly, as she turned a corner, she bumped into a hard chest.

Aurora looked up and, said with a girlish smile "Where did this handsome guy come from? How much for a night with you? I'll book you tonight."
