Chapter 270 Aurora Discovers John's Little Secret

Jack's voice was all shaky on the other end of the line, which only made Aurora more suspicious.

"You idiot!" Aurora snapped, gripping the phone so hard her knuckles turned white. "Get your butt back here right now! If you even think about going with Richard, don't you ever call me again. Ever."

Aurora was a mix of anger and anxiety. She had just bailed him out of the police station, and now he was running headlong into danger. How could she not be furious?

"Look, Aurora, I'm sorry, but he's still my dad. He won't hurt me," Jack said, his voice steady before he hung up.

When Aurora called back, the phone was already turned off.

"Idiot!" Aurora fumed, her frustration boiling over.

Dean came down from upstairs, noticing her distress. "What happened to make you so angry?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

"I have something urgent to deal with, so I won't be joining you two for the dinner," Aurora said, trying to keep her voice steady to avoid worrying him. She then called out to Gideon, "Get the car ready, we're leaving."

"Yes, Mrs. Lewis," Gideon responded promptly, heading off to prepare the car.

Aurora hurriedly left, her mind racing with worry for Jack. She tried to contact John, but there was no answer. Then she went to the company, thinking John would still be there.

The employees normally got off work at 5:30 PM, but when Aurora arrived after seven, many people were still working overtime, all in a rush.

Everyone knew that Aurora had become the wife of the boss of the Lewis Group. They greeted her as they saw her.

"Good evening, Mrs. Lewis," one of the receptionists said with a warm smile.

"Mrs. Lewis," another employee nodded respectfully as he passed by.

"Hello, Mrs. Lewis," a security guard greeted her politely.

Aurora had urgent matters to attend to and didn't have time for greetings. She saw Linda, her former boss, and asked, "Ms. Simmons, where's John?"

"He's in a meeting," Linda replied, surprised to see Aurora. Noticing her belly, she couldn't help but tease, "I guess I should start calling you Mrs. Lewis now."

"Ms. Simmons, please don't tease me," Aurora responded, her tone serious. "Is the meeting important? Why is it so late?"

"There are some issues with a few projects in the South, so Mr. Lewis is holding an emergency meeting," Linda explained. "Mrs. Lewis, why don't you wait in the office?"

"Alright," Aurora agreed, knowing that rushing wouldn't help with Jack's situation. He had probably already left with Richard, so she didn't want to disturb John's work.

Aurora went to John's office to wait. The desk was a mess, with documents and materials scattered everywhere, unorganized. It seemed he was really busy.

Aurora started tidying up and also picked up the clothes John had left on the sofa. Suddenly, she noticed something under the sofa.

Aurora bent down slightly and reached out, pulling out a thin, flesh-colored stocking. It had been worn. Why would there be women's stockings in John's office?

Following her intuition, Aurora glanced at the trash can and, sure enough, found used condoms.

Seeing this, Aurora felt a chill in her heart but quickly convinced herself that John wouldn't betray her.

She calmly put the stocking back in place and pretended not to notice the items in the trash can, sitting on the sofa to rest.

During the wait, Aurora's mind was in turmoil, wondering whose items those were and who had used them. A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

"Come in," Aurora responded, her voice steady.

The door opened, and a young woman in a mini skirt walked in with a tray of coffee.

"Mrs. Lewis!" she chirped, all smiles. She looked like she was barely out of college, with a baby face and a voice to match. Her skirt was so short it seemed like she was showing off her legs on purpose.

"Are you new here?" Aurora asked, keeping her cool as she sized up the young woman.

"Yes, Mrs. Lewis. I'm new in the secretarial department. My name's Flora Cook. You can call me Flora; Mr. Lewis does," Flora said, her voice bright and cheerful. She was wearing the same flesh-colored stockings as the ones under the sofa. She looked innocent, but Aurora wasn't buying it.

Aurora glanced at the coffee and said, "Pregnant women are advised to limit their coffee intake. Get me some milk instead."

"Oh, I didn't know. I'm sorry, Mrs. Lewis. I'll get it right away," Flora said, clicking away in her high heels and returning shortly with a glass of milk. "Mrs. Lewis, here's your milk."

Aurora took a sip and casually asked, "Do you have a boyfriend?"

"No, I don't," Flora blushed shyly, lowering her head. "I've never been in a relationship."

Aurora didn't believe her out of instinc.

"Well, since you are new here, it is reasonable to focus on your work," Aurora said calmly. "By the way, could you get the cleaning staff to tidy up? The trash can is full, and there's dust everywhere."

"The cleaning staff have left for the day. I'll clean up," Flora volunteered, glancing at the trash can and reacting with surprise, "How did this get here..."

"What is it?" Aurora asked, pretending not to know.

"Nothing," Flora stammered as she tied up the garbage bag. Tentatively, she asked, "Mrs. Lewis, you didn't see anything just now, did you?"

"What did I see?" Aurora asked, feigning ignorance.

"Nothing, I'll just take out the trash," Flora said, quickly grabbing the garbage and walking away.

Her demeanor, wanting Aurora to notice yet trying to cover up, only made Aurora more suspicious.

Aurora saw through Flora's act but didn't take the bait, pretending not to notice.

After about forty minutes, John finally finished his meeting and returned, looking exhausted.

John didn't know Aurora was there and was surprised to see her. "Aurora, what brings you here?" he asked, his exhaustion vanishing as he smiled at her.

"I came to see you," Aurora said, her voice tinged with worry. "Jack left with Richard, and I couldn't decide what to do, so I came to discuss it with you."

"When did this happen?" John asked, frowning.

"Around six this evening. Jack called me," Aurora explained, her frustration evident.

"Hasn't Richard left Silvercrest City after escaping from prison?" John frowned deeper.

"But he should have left by now; otherwise, Jack wouldn't have called me," Aurora said, her anger rising again at the mention of Jack.

"I worked so hard to get him out, and now he's gone with Richard. His life is basically over."

"Don't be too pessimistic. Richard took Jack because he's his son," John analyzed. "Richard will probably go to Aetheria. Once he's there, it will be much harder for the police here to catch him."

Cross-border arrests were indeed more challenging.

"Let's put Richard's issue aside for now," Aurora crossed her arms and stared at John. She said, "I know you have a problem."

"What problem?" John asked, puzzled, with a smile. "Aurora, who made you so angry?"

Aurora kicked the sofa aside, revealing the flesh-colored stocking on the floor.

"How do you explain this?" Aurora demanded.

"I found used condoms in the trash can, and these stockings are identical to the ones worn by the new secretary, Flora."

John realized Aurora was jealous and chuckled, "Honey, if I said I didn't know, would you believe me?"

Aurora raised an eyebrow and sneered, "What do you think?"
