Chapter 258 A Twist of Fate in the Family Background

John had mulled it over and figured it was better to pay Chris back ASAP rather than have him constantly contact Aurora.

"I'll have Mom write a letter of understanding later. Don't stress about it," John said, gently massaging Aurora's swollen leg. "Why's it so puffy, like a pig's trotter?"

Aurora's legs were usually slender, and her toes were pretty round. The swelling made them even rounder, kinda like pig trotters at first glance.

"You're sleeping on the couch tonight," Aurora said, giving John's chest a light push with her foot before strutting off to the bed.

Would John really sleep on the couch with his wife in bed?

No way.

John shamelessly followed her into bed. Aurora pretended to be mad. "What are you doing?"

"Honey, I'm just warming up the bed for you."

"No need," Aurora said. "You said my feet look like pig trotters, so aren't you sleeping with a pig?"

"Pigs are awesome; they eat, sleep, and get fat," John laughed, pulling Aurora into his arms. "Actually, I'm chubby too. Don't you believe? Feel it."

"Stop it, get your hands off me. John, I'm mad, really mad. Haha.. alright I give up."

The next day.

John went to the hospital to find Helen, who actually agreed to write a letter of understanding. This could help in getting a lenient treatment. Given the time already served, with Percy's efforts, Emily could be out in a few days.

Aurora had no time to worry about Emily. Jack was still in prison as Richard was determined to drag Jack down with him.

This was really a deadlock.

Jack couldn't get out anytime soon, but based on Richard's testimony, Jack couldn't be convicted immediately either.

Loren and Summer often went to the hospital to keep Helen company, while Aurora stayed at the Meadowbrook villa to rest, feeling a bit bored.

"Aurora." Lori appeared in front of Aurora like a whirlwind.

Aurora was startled, patting her chest. "Lori, can you not be so sudden? My little heart can't take it. If you scare my daughter, I'll hold you responsible."

"Aurora, are you sure you're having a girl? Have you had the gender checked?"

"No, but John and I both think it's a girl."

Lori stared at Aurora's belly for a moment. "Aurora, how about we make a bet?"

"What kind of bet?"

"Let's bet on whether you're having a girl or a boy," Lori said with a playful wink. "Ten million dollars, are you in?"

"Betting with money is boring." Aurora had an idea. "If we're betting, let's make it big."

Lori raised an eyebrow. "Aurora, are you sure you're not just being stingy?"

"Well." Aurora rolled her eyes but actually felt a bit guilty. "Am I that kind of person? You work hard for your money, I'm just helping you save it."

"So if not money, what are we betting?" Lori was half-deflated.

Aurora gave a mischievous smile. "If you lose, you have to confess to Todd and tell him you like him."

"So thrilling?" Lori's eyes widened. "Aurora, you're so mean."

"If you don't dare, then forget it." Aurora tried to use reverse psychology. "After all, you're a girl, it's understandable to be shy. It's just a pity to miss such a good chance to prank Todd."

Ava, who was walking over slowly, knew Lori would take the bait as soon as she heard Aurora's tactic.

Sure enough.

Lori slapped the table. "Who says I don't dare? It's just a sentence, no big deal. But if you lose, John has to do a striptease. How about that?"

"I haven't even seen that," Aurora pretended to think for a while and said, "Deal. Lori, I'm waiting for you to confess to Todd."

"Who wins or loses is still up in the air."

Ava chimed in, "What if Todd takes it seriously?"

Lori didn't catch Ava's meaning and asked, "What does that have to do with me?"

Ava was at a loss for words, feeling quite helpless.

Aurora changed the subject. "By the way, Lori, you came in such a hurry, is something up?"

"Oh right, I almost forgot. Uncle Bobcat is looking for you."

Aurora was surprised. Hank was looking for her? "Is it about Richard?"

"I don't know. You'll find out when you see him." Lori sighed, "Wolfpack isn't what it used to be. We let Christopher go, and he split Wolfpack with Robert."

Anyway, Wolfpack was where Lori and Ava grew up. Seeing it come to this, both felt deeply sentimental.

Aurora asked, "Where's Uncle Bobcat?"

"He's at the door. He refused to come in."

Aurora couldn't understand Hank's actions. At the gate, Hank was squatting by the roadside smoking. Aurora walked over. "Uncle Bobcat."

Hank turned around, and, upon seeing Aurora, he quickly put out his cigarette. "Ms. White."

"Uncle Bobcat, you wanted to see me? What's up?"

"It's about Richard. Can he possibly get out?" Hank hesitated.

Aurora was silent for a moment and shook her head, "Richard has no chance of getting out."

Hearing this, Hank let out a deep sigh, then took out a photo before handing it to Aurora.

Aurora glanced at the photo. It was a bit blurry, showing a young girl and a young man.

The young man looked somewhat like Richard.

Aurora asked, "Is this Richard?"

Hank nodded. "That's Richard, and the little girl next to him is his daughter. Look closely, who does she resemble?"

Richard had a daughter?

Aurora looked closely and found the girl familiar. "She looks a bit like Lori."

"That's Lori."

Hearing Hank's words, Aurora was completely stunned. "Isn't Lori Richard's niece? How is she his daughter?" If Lori found out, it would be truly momentous.

"It's a long story. If Richard wasn't stuck, I wouldn't have revealed this. Do you really think I stayed at the branch for over a decade for nothing? Part of the reason was your mom, and part of it was to keep this secret." Hank said, "Lori's mother, like Wendy, was adopted by The Lee family. Lori's mother didn't want Richard to know about Lori, so she lied and said Lori was someone else's daughter."

"What about Jack? Uncle Bobcat, do you know Jack's background?"

Hank hesitated and said, "If I'm not mistaken, Jack is also Richard's son, with the same mother as Lori. Lori's mother was Jessica Moore, adopted by The Lee family a year after your mom. Jessica was gentle and submissive. She died shortly after giving birth to Jack."

The news Hank brought was truly shocking to Aurora.

The Lee family's tangled relationships were too messy.

Richard loved Wendy but kept having children with Jessica, clearly using Jessica as a substitute.

What a scumbag.

Hank added, "I've kept this to myself, afraid to say it. You know Lori's temper. If she finds out her mom was bullied by Richard and learns her true background, she might immediately kill Richard."
