Chapter 320: "It's not about the money, it's mainly about enjoying the atmosphere."
After raping Sandra, Oren lay on the couch, a sick sense of satisfaction washing over him.
He had liked Sandra for years, and tonight he finally got what he wanted.
The glaring red bloodstain on the couch was what pleased Oren the most; Sandra was completely his now.
Sandra curled up at the edge of the couch, staring blankly, her eyes lifeless, biting her lower lip.
Her lips were broken, her makeup was smeared, her hair was disheveled, and tears kept flowing.
She had always kept her virginity for the one she loved, for John, not to be taken by someone she despised.
Without saying anything, Sandra silently pulled up her clothes and walking barefoot to the kitchen.
Oren didn't pay attention to what Sandra was doing because he was too tired. In no time, he fell asleep on the couch.
It wasn't long before he was awakened by boiling water.
Sandra poured a pot of boiling water directly onto Oren.
Oren jumped up from the couch in pain.
Luckily, he reacted quickly, and the boiling water scalded his thigh. If it had gone higher, he would have lost his sexual function.
Sandra stared at Oren with eyes full of hatred: "This is the price you pay for touching me, Oren. I hate you. You're nothing but a stray my dad took in,, a rat from the sewer, and you dare to have delusions about me."
"I'm just a stray, but now I'm a stray that's turned the tables," Oren shot back, his voice dripping with anger. "Sandra, let me tell you, I'm the only one who's devoted to you now. If you don't know what's good for you, you can go to jail." Provoked, Oren's fury boiled over, and he slapped Sandra hard.
The slap was strong enough to knock Sandra down, her mouth bleeding, and the kettle in her hand was thrown out, rolling to the corner of the wall.
Oren's inner thigh hurt so much he couldn't move; his pants were stuck to his skin. If he pulled them off, it would tear the skin and flesh.
Sandra stubbornly wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth: "A stray will always be a stray."
Oren was so angry he wanted to hit her, but seeing Sandra's aggrieved and sad expression, he held back: "Ms. Johnson, let's be real. Being with me isn't the worst thing that could happen to you."
With that, Oren had someone take him to the hospital.
Sandra's fallout with Oren was heard clearly by Richard in the room.
Jack, watching Oren leave from the balcony, closed the window: "Dad, Oren and Sandra had a fallout. Will it be bad for us?"
"Jack, we need to find a way to leave Silvercrest City as soon as possible." Richard was a bit scared.
If this continued, he would end up dead.
"Should we take Lori with us?" Jack asked. "The police are looking for Lori everywhere. It's not safe for her to stay here."
"If she wants to find us, she will come. It's just a pity about Ava." Richard sighed. "She could have escaped, but she chose to go back to die."
Jack said nothing, just silently looked out the window.
The sky was gradually getting brighter.
At the Smith family villa.
Todd, with both hands in casts, was having breakfast.
Naturally, he had to be fed by a servant.
Todd felt quite embarrassed. If he had one good hand, he wouldn't be in such a sorry state.
Lori came downstairs with dark circles under her eyes. She couldn't sleep all night.
Seeing Todd needing to be fed, Lori sneered: "Are you crippled? Like a useless person, needing someone to serve you."
She was in a bad mood, lashing out at everything.
Todd, helpless, reminded her: "My hands were ruined by you, thank you."
"You deserved it." Lori sat down carelessly, took a piece of bread, "Your hands are ruined, but you still have feet, don't you?"
"I'm not as heavy-tasting as you." Todd, having eaten enough, signaled the servant to leave, then asked Lori: "How did you sleep last night?"
"Are you blind as well as crippled? Can't you see these dark circles under my eyes?" Lori pointed to her eyes.
Todd felt a bit helpless.
No matter what he said, it was wrong.
At that moment, Todd's phone rang. His hands were immobile, so he looked at Lori: "Lori, can you answer the phone for me?"
"No way." Lori wasn't that obedient.
Todd spoke: "It might be news from Nightfall, about where Ava was transferred..."
Before he finished, Lori quickly took the phone, answered it, and put it on speaker.
The call was from Sam.
As soon as he spoke: "Mr. Smith, transfer fifty million dollars, urgently needed. Nightfall needs some operating funds."
He was straightforward, asking for money so boldly.
Todd replied, "I'm not an ATM. I have no money. I'm not in charge of Nightfall's finances. You've got the wrong person."
Sam explained: "Mr. Smith, Nightfall just took a major hit. We're low on cash. We recruited a batch of new people last night, which requires a lot of money. Mr. Lewis said to ask you for reimbursement. The Smith family is in the film business, the best at making money. Right now, Mr. Smith, you're the richest."
Todd's eyes widened: "Who said I'm rich? I'm not rich. I'm the poorest. Besides, what kind of recruitment needs fifty million dollars?"
"The former members of the Shadow of Darkness organization. Last night, Mr. Lewis turned them. They all joined us. Mr. Lewis promised them new member benefits, eighty thousand dollars in cash subsidies, various insurances, social security, and even arranged marriages for them..."
"Hold on." Todd interrupted, feeling increasingly uneasy. "The Shadow of Darkness organization's former members? Since when did we have benefits for joining? It used to be others giving us money, now we're paying them? And arranging marriages? I'm thirty and still single. Why are they getting married?"
Lori, eavesdropping, was tempted by the benefits and asked Sam over the phone: "Does Nightfall accept women? I want to sign up! I don't care about the money or the arranged marriage. I just like Nightfall's vibe."
.
Todd spoke, "Ms. Hernandez, please say that again with a clear conscience."
If it weren't for the eighty thousand dollars and the arranged marriage, he wouldn't believe her.
Lori ignored Todd and asked Sam over the phone: "Can I sign up now? Arrange a few with good figures..."
"Sam, I'll transfer the money later." Todd immediately hung up.
Lori was unhappy: "Todd, what are you doing?"
"Nightfall doesn't accept women." Todd replied proudly: "I'm half in charge of Nightfall, and I make the rules."
Lori pouted: "I'll ask John later."
"Lori, I know what you're trying to do. Joining Nightfall to get their help to save Ava." Todd said, his voice softening. "I know you're worried about Ava. Otherwise, you wouldn't think of joining Nightfall. But you don't have to do that. Even if you don't join, Nightfall won't ignore this matter."
Lori, feeling exposed, lost interest and tossed her unfinished bread aside. "Drive me out for a spin."
"There might be a dragnet outside waiting to catch you, and you still want to go out?" Todd asked, incredulous.
"That's why I'm taking you. They'll think you're with me." Lori shot back. "Such a good chance to get you in trouble, why not use it?"
Todd smiled helplessly: "I must have had a grudge against you in my past life."
