Chapter 334: Aurora Takes Control of the Finances
Lori couldn't communicate, so only Aurora could go.
Aurora had just stepped out of the bathroom when, with a loud bang, another big hole appeared in the ceiling, and water came pouring down.
"Oh my God, what's going on up there?" Lori glanced up.
There was definitely something wrong upstairs.
Aurora spoke, "I'll go find the hotel staff."
"Aurora, I'll go with you."
This place was not like back home; it was chaotic. Lori was worried that if something happened to Aurora, she wouldn't be able to explain it to John.
The two of them went together to find the staff.
In Room 608, Richard stood in the bathroom, looking at the two big holes, and scolded Jack, "How can you be so stupid? You can't even handle this. Hurry up and fix the holes. If the hotel staff gets alerted, we're in trouble."
Richard was just hoping that no one was staying in the room below.
Jack stood in the water holding a wrench, getting scolded by Richard without retorting, "Dad, I'll fix it."
"Hurry up."
Just as Richard finished speaking, there was a knock on the door.
"Dear guest, I am Luis, a staff member of the hotel. The guests downstairs complained about water leaking from your room. We are here to check."
Richard glared at Jack and walked out. He was about to open the door when he heard a familiar voice outside.
"Aurora, John and the others are back."
It was Lori's voice.
Hearing Lori's voice, Richard's heart tightened.
Was it his imagination?
Richard quickly looked through the peephole and saw that it was indeed Lori and Aurora standing outside.
Richard never expected to see Aurora and Lori here.
He couldn't go out. From what Lori said, John was also here.
If he showed himself, he would definitely be caught.
Richard didn't make a sound. Instead, he locked the door and hurried back, "Jack, we need to leave now."
This was the sixth floor. There was a pipe outside the window; they could only go down through the pipe.
"Dad, what's wrong? I'm almost done fixing it." Jack was still holding the wrench.
"Fix what? John is here."
Richard quickly packed up and climbed out the window.
Seeing no response from inside, Luis get a spare key.
.
Ten minutes later, the door opened, and the room was empty. There were indeed two big holes in the bathroom.
Lori and Aurora didn't go in.
After checking around, Luis came out, "Dear guests, the bathroom pipes burst. We will fix it immediately and arrange another room for you. We apologize for the inconvenience."
They really put the guests first, with top-notch service.
Aurora didn't pursue the matter and replied in Portuguese, "It's okay."
The hotel arranged a new room for Aurora. John and the others also returned and didn't pay much attention to the bathroom leak.
Aurora helped John take off his coat and hung it on the rack, "How did your business go?"
"Almost done." John loosened his tie and unbuttoned his sleeves, "I saw David today. He saw Richard."
Aurora didn't know who David was, but hearing news about Richard made her excited.
"Richard is in this town too?"
"Most likely," John spoke. "David saw him at the border, so Richard must've made it into the country. Aurora, don't worry, we'll find him soon. I've already got Nightfall to let everyone know that there's a fat reward for anyone who helps us catch Richard or gives us a lead."
"John, I saw a lot of orphans on the street today. Lori said this country has millions of orphans every year. I have an idea."
"What's that?"
"To establish an orphanage." Aurora was deeply moved when she saw those children, and the idea was born then, "Summer and Loren grew up in an orphanage. Seeing those kids today reminded me of the hardships Summer and Loren went through. It might just be a drop in the bucket, but I want to have a clear conscience. By opening an orphanage and supporting those kids, we can also establish orphanages back home to help children in need."
"Aurora, establishing an orphanage here is very difficult. With tens of thousands of orphans, once we start, they..." John stopped mid-sentence, seeing Aurora's dim eyes, and changed his tone with a smile, "Alright, whatever you want to do, I support you. The family's finances are in your hands; you can use them as you see fit."
"Honey, I knew you were the best." Aurora happily hugged John, "Don't worry, I'll be careful with this. We won't take in just anyone. Besides, I know things are unstable here. If we take in those kids, it can help stabilize the situation for you. No matter who it is, they'll have to respect you, making things easier in the future."
Women change their minds faster than the weather.
"You're always so considerate, Aurora." John didn't deny Aurora's words. If they could indeed gather popularity and reputation, it would greatly benefit Nightfall's development here.
"Don't praise me too much, or I might get cocky again," Aurora joked. "This is just a quick thought. Right now, Ava's matter is urgent. Let's find Richard first."
"Finding Richard won't be difficult. Tomorrow night, there's a birthday party for the local tycoon Nick Cooper. All the important people are invited. If Richard wants to make a comeback, he will definitely take this opportunity to meet Nick."
John slowly rolled up his sleeves, "We just need to wait for the opportunity to catch him."
"But if Richard knows we're here, will he still dare to go?"
"He will!" John replied, "This is his only chance."
Meanwhile, Richard and Jack had escaped into the mountains.
"We must go to the birthday party tomorrow night." Richard leaned against a tree, scanning the town, "Jack, this Nick has a granddaughter, she's eighteen but always been delicate. You used to be sickly too. Nick loves his granddaughter dearly. If you can charm her, we're closer to our goal."
"Dad, I'll do whatever you say." Jack hesitated and tentatively asked, "Dad, what about that stash you mentioned? Are we gonna use it..."
"Stop asking about things you shouldn't." Richard interrupted Jack, his tone increasingly dissatisfied with him.
If Jack weren't his son, he wouldn't have kept him around.
Jack hid his emotions and obediently spoke, "Yes, Dad."
Time flew by.
Aurora put on local attire and set off with John for Nick's birthday party.
Sam and Tyler naturally followed John.
Aurora and Lori split up.
Lori stayed with Todd. Todd's hands were injured, so he wouldn't be attending the party. Lori's got a unique status, so it was a hassle for her to show up, so she didn't go.
But Lori wasn't the type to stay cooped up in the hotel. As soon as it got dark, she went out.
Todd followed her.
Wherever Lori went, he went.
They hadn't gone far from the hotel when they were surrounded by dozens of people.
