Chapter 358: Aurora Discovers a Clue

Aurora had considered many possibilities in her mind, speculating about who had knocked her out and brought her here, but she never expected it to be Wade.

Wade was holding a small cake, still dressed in cheap flea market clothes, and smiled at Aurora, "You're awake. I made some cake, have a piece."

"It was you, all of this was your doing, Wade. You never gave up. You stole my child, you hired someone to kill Helen, didn't you?"

Aurora was agitated, the image of Helen being stabbed and falling to the ground flashing before her eyes.

Wade looked bewildered, "Aurora, what are you talking about? I don't understand. You killed Helen, and now the police are looking for you. I brought you here to help."

"I killed Helen?" Aurora suddenly remembered. Yes, the person who stabbed Helen had a face exactly like hers.

That person had impersonated her to kill Helen.

Wade turned on his phone and handed it to Aurora, "See for yourself."

Aurora took the phone in confusion and her face changed dramatically. The internet was full of news about her killing Helen, and the comments were filled with harsh words.

She was also wanted by the police.

Aurora slumped into a chair, wiped her face in grief, and cried out, "Mom!"

She wasn't panicking about being a suspect; she was grieving Helen's tragic death.

Helen had treated her like a daughter, and now she was dead right in front of her, and she could do nothing.

Aurora's tears fell as she covered her face in pain. It took a long time for her to calm down.

Aurora's eyes were red as she looked at Wade, "Why am I here?"

"I was delivering a cake to a customer last night and saw you lying on the side of the road on my way back, so I brought you here."

Wade continued, "I called John, but no one answered. I was going to notify The Lewis Villa, but when I found out Helen was killed and you became a suspect, I didn't dare to take you back."

"Side of the road?" Aurora asked, "Have you been to Virtual Bridge? Did you see the person who killed Helen? Did you see who knocked me out?"

"Not Virtual Bridge. I found you at the intersection of East Main Street."

Wade handed her a tissue, "Luckily, I found you early, or the police would have caught you. Aurora, did you really kill Helen?"

Aurora stared at Wade, recalling the scene when she was knocked out. Finally, her gaze fell on the shoe rack by the door, where there was a pair of sneakers.

She had seen Wade at The Lewis Villa yesterday, and she remembered he was wearing those sneakers.

The white sneakers had cement on the soles.

If she remembered correctly, there was a section of road under construction near Virtual Bridge, not far from where she was knocked out.

If Wade hadn't been to Virtual Bridge, how could there be cement on his shoes?

Wade was lying.

Aurora's heart tightened, and a cold sweat broke out on her hands and feet.

Aurora couldn't stop trembling. Wade gently touched her shoulder, his voice filled with concern, "Aurora? What's wrong? Should I call John to come get you?"

"No!" Aurora instinctively refused. She suppressed her fear and uttered calmly, "Helen is dead, and I'm a suspect. The person who killed her had a face just like mine. If I show up now, John won't believe me. Even if he doesn't turn me over to the police, seeing me will only cause him more pain."

Wade nodded, "I heard John was hospitalized. Helen's tragic death made him so angry he vomited blood. Your concerns are valid. If you show up now, you'll be in danger, and if John gets more upset, no one will take care of Jax."

Aurora's heart ached at the thought of John suffering. She wanted to rush to John's side, but she couldn't.

Taking a moment to compose herself, she decided what she needed to do next.

"Wade, I have nowhere to hide and no place to go. Can I stay here?" Aurora pleaded, "Don't worry, I won't drag you into this. If the police come, I'll say I forced you. I'm lost and don't know what to do. I can't get caught; I haven't found my child yet. Wade, please help me."

Aurora played the part of a frightened and desperate woman perfectly, clutching Wade's hand and looking at him with pleading eyes.

Wade looked at Aurora's hand, feeling her fear. At that moment, he felt needed.

"Aurora, don't worry. You can stay here. I won't turn you over to the police. This place is simple, though, and you might feel a bit uncomfortable."

"It's okay," Aurora smiled bitterly, "I'm a fugitive now. As long as I'm alive, I can't ask for more."

"As long as you didn't do it, the police will clear your name." Wade opened the cake, "Aurora, have something to eat."

"Okay, thank you." Aurora had already noticed that her earpiece was missing, and she had no way to communicate with anyone. She took a bite of the cake to please Wade and said, "I saw Helen killed by a woman who looked just like me. I was knocked out and don't know what happened after that. I don't know why I was unconscious on East Main Street. No one would believe this."

"Aurora, as long as you didn't do it, the police will find out the truth," Wade comforted. "Rest here for a while. I'll go to the cake shop and gather some information. I'll arrange for you to meet John privately. He loves you; he should trust you."

"No, I don't want to see him. I don't have the courage to see him. Don't tell him I'm here. I don't want to drag him into this." Aurora held her head in pain, "My mind is a mess. I don't want to think about anything or see anyone."

"Okay, I won't tell John. Aurora, rest well. I'll bring you some food later."

"Thank you."

As Wade left, he glanced at Aurora. She sat on the chair, looking lost and scared, her hands tightly clenched.

Wade smirked slightly and left, closing the door behind him.

As the door closed, Aurora's expression hardened, and her eyes grew cold. She walked to the window, gazing into the distance, and thought to herself, 'John, wait for me.'

The Meadowbrook Villa.

After seeing Helen's body, John went straight to Angela.

Sam hadn't gotten any information before, and John couldn't wait any longer. He took matters into his own hands.

Angela was tied to a chair, looking at John in terror, "Mr. Lewis, you're illegally detaining me. You'll go to jail for this."

"My mom is dead, and my wife is a suspect. And you're talking to me about illegal detention?" John's eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed Angela's neck, "I feel like killing someone right now. Angela, if you want to test my patience with your life, go ahead. See if I dare to kill you."

Angela turned pale with fear. She could see the murderous intent in John's eyes. This wasn't just a scare tactic.

John was serious.

Angela had no doubt that John would kill her.

"I'll talk, I'll talk." Angela struggled to speak with her neck being squeezed, "A man stole the child. I've seen him several times."

John released her, "Keep talking."

Angela's throat hurt, and she coughed a few times before saying, "Before the child was taken, I saw a man lurking around the school several times. He was always watching Summer. I thought he was a trafficker targeting Summer, so I took a picture of him secretly."
