Chapter 302: Conversations on Different Wavelengths

Aurora didn't think Gary was acting strange; instead, she thought John was acting strange.

Summer said Gary was looking for him, and John also said he was going to find Gary.

How could it be such a coincidence?

Aurora didn't ask further and replied, "Alright, I'm going to sleep first. Come back early and stay safe."

After hanging up, Aurora immediately called Gary.

At that moment, Gary had just finished surgery and was about to rest. He was surprised to see Aurora's call.

If Aurora was calling him, it must mean something had happened to John.

Gary had planned to return to the island, but he encountered a rare case that caught his interest, so he stayed to study it and planned to tackle it.

"Mr. Collins, are you resting?" Aurora asked politely.

Gary felt uneasy hearing this. Should he say he was resting or not?

Gary thought for a few seconds and cautiously voiced, "I should be resting?"

He was trying to gauge Aurora's tone.

Aurora chuckled and deliberately asked, "Mr. Collins, are you busy?"

Gary cautiously replied, "I should... be busy!"

All his answers were kind of non-committal.

What a good friend, covering for John to this extent.

Aurora asked again, "Should I have John come over for a drink with you?"

"No need. It's so late; you two don't need to worry about a lonely guy like me." Gary sighed in relief, thinking it was over.

Aurora added, "Then Mr. Collins, good night."

"Okay." Gary replied.

"By the way, Summer prepared a gift and said he would bring it to you." Aurora uttered.

"Summer is so thoughtful. It's so late; she doesn't need to come. Another day will be fine." Gary answered.

"Alright, then I won't disturb Mr. Collins."

Aurora hung up the phone. As expected, both Summer and John hadn't told the truth and were using Gary as an excuse.

She wondered what the father and son were hiding from her.

Since they were deliberately hiding it, Aurora didn't expose them. She would find out when the time was right.

At the hospital.

Gary felt a bit puzzled. Just as he reached the hospital entrance, John called.

Gary was confused. What were these two up to so late at night?

Gary got into his car and answered, "John, why are you calling?"

"I'm hurt. I'm at the Meadowbrook villa. Come quickly," John's voice was weak, showing he had lost a lot of blood.

"What happened? How did you get hurt again?" Gary asked while starting his car and heading to the Meadowbrook villa. "Where are you hurt?"

"My leg. The stab might have hit an artery." John replied.

Hitting an artery was very dangerous.

"Then you should go to the hospital." Gary suggested.

"Aurora would worry if she knew," John spoke. "I trust your medical skills more."

Gary was speechless.

"I'll be there in twenty minutes. Stop the bleeding first." Gary knew the situation was urgent and floored the gas pedal.

John had suffered many injuries over the years and knew basic self-rescue methods like stopping the bleeding.

Halfway there, Gary received a call from Summer.

"Mr. Collins, my dad might be in trouble. Are you at the hospital? I'll come to pick you up." Summer spoke anxiously.

"Your dad is already in trouble," Gary replied. "I'm on my way to the Meadowbrook villa. Meet me there."

The whole family was calling him. Gary realized Aurora had been testing him earlier.

Aurora calling him meant John and Summer were using him as an excuse.

Good grief, he would have to be more careful in the future to avoid trouble.

At the Meadowbrook villa.

When Gary arrived, John had already lost too much blood and was unconscious on the sofa.

Gary and Summer arrived together.

Summer was with Sam. He had lied to Aurora; it wasn't Randy who came, nor was it Gary looking for him. He had received a message from Sam, knowing John might be in trouble.

"Dad," Summer ran to John's side, anxious and scared.

Gary quickly walked over and checked John's thigh.

The wound was deep. A little more, and it would have hit the main artery.

"Move him to the operating room." Gary ordered.

The Meadowbrook villa had a small operating room, and the medical supplies and equipment there were more advanced than in the hospital.

Sam and Gary moved John to the operating room, and Summer steadied his nerves to prepare for surgery.

Summer had been learning from Gary for a long time and could help out.

The Meadowbrook villa was in chaos.

At a restaurant in Silvercrest City, Lori was so spicy she could barely speak. Her lips were swollen from the heat, and she had drunk so much water she was almost full.

Allan saw Lori sweating profusely and poured her another glass of water. "Can't you handle spicy food?"

"I can!" Lori wouldn't admit defeat. "The flavor is so good; it feels like it's opening up all my senses."

If she had known Allan was taking her for Mexican food, she wouldn't have come.

He had promised to treat her and Ava, but Ava was sent on an errand at the last minute, leaving just the two of them.

Lori was gritting her teeth, eating as if her life depended on it.

Allan had chosen a spot by the water, where there were many mosquitoes. Her legs were covered in mosquito bites.

Allan felt reassured and spoke, "Looks like Todd was right; you do like Mexican food."

"Mr. Jennings, did Todd tell you I like Mexican food?" Lori asked.

Lori almost flipped the table to seek revenge on Todd.

What a petty man. Just because she had dinner with his man, he had to set her up like this?

"Yes," Allan replied, taking out the morning glories he had prepared. "Lori, these are for you."

Lori's expression looked constipated when she saw the morning glories. "Mr. Jennings, did Todd tell you this too?"

"Todd said these are morning glories. I thought the name was nice and suited you. Look how well they bloom. They're for you." Allan handed the flowers to Lori.

"Mr. Jennings, why are you giving me flowers? Aren't you afraid Todd will get jealous?" Lori asked.

Lori meant that Todd and Allan were a couple, and even giving morning glories would make Todd jealous due to his petty nature.

However, Allan interpreted it differently, thinking Lori was interested in Todd.

These two were quite the odd pair, talking past each other but still managing to converse.

Allan awkwardly smiled, "The flowers don't mean anything special. It's just to celebrate your success in capturing Sandra. It's a reward, hoping you and Ava will continue to rise."

"Thank you, Mr. Jennings," Lori replied. "I'll accept them then."

Not far away, Todd was watching through binoculars. He saw Lori accept the flowers and, despite the spiciness, continue to eat.

This wasn't the Lori he knew; she never did things she didn't like.

Allan treated her to Mexican food, and she actually ate it. If it were Allan, Lori would have flipped the table by now.

Todd was getting anxious.

But he didn't know why he was anxious or what he was anxious about.
