Chapter 143 John Remembers
Hearing Loren's voice, Aurora bolted inside.
Todd yelled, "Tyler, get in there and cover her. If something happens to Aurora, Boss is gonna flip."
Tyler dashed in right after Aurora. The rest of the crew held off ViperStrike's goons outside.
There were still guards inside the warehouse. They hesitated for a sec when they saw someone break in, then lunged at Aurora.
Summer and Loren, tied up inside, lit up when they saw Aurora.
But Loren was freaked. "Aurora, stay back!"
Tyler showed up with some backup, and Aurora went all out, throwing punches and kicks like a pro.
Tyler's team, along with Aurora, quickly took down the guards watching over Summer and the others.
Leo, all hyped up, said, "Aurora, get us outta here!"
Aurora snagged the keys from the guards. She rushed over, unlocked the door, and untied the three of them.
Just then, she saw John's situation on the screen.
Even though John was holding his own against a bunch of guys, he was getting banged up.
Even the toughest dude had his limits.
Aurora urgently said, "Tyler, grab some guys and help John, now!"
"On it."
With Summer and the others safe, there was no more stress. Tyler called the Nightfall crew near Emerald Club to back up John.
Aurora checked on Summer and Loren. "You guys okay?"
Summer and Loren shook their heads, while Leo whined, "Aurora, I'm hurt. Why don't you care about me?"
Leo had taken a hit earlier, but it wasn't too bad.
"Of course I care about you! Let's get you to the hospital."
Todd, having dealt with the outside trouble, came in and noticed a bruise on Aurora's neck. "Aurora, you're hurt."
Aurora touched the back of her neck, wincing. It hurt like hell.
Loren said, "Aurora, you need to see a doctor."
At the hospital, Aurora made sure the doctor checked Loren and Summer, just to be safe.
Not long after they got to the hospital, John wrapped up his fight and came in for treatment. He had a few stitches on his head and a mild concussion, but nothing too serious. After a full check-up, the docs said John had some internal injuries and needed to stay for observation. Today's events were wild but everyone was safe in the end.
Ashley and Kevin, hearing that Leo was in the hospital, rushed over. They had no clue what went down, and after hearing the story, they were pretty shaken.
Leo, all pumped up, said, "Dad, Mom, today was insane. In all my years, I've never been through something so crazy. I drove a sports car, led Summer and Loren to escape, fought off the bad guys. I wasn't scared at all."
Leo started bragging, and Loren, who came to visit, overheard.
"It was actually Summer who kept his cool and told us to hide in the amusement park," Loren spilled the beans.
Leo, looking a bit sheepish, said, "Well, I did lead you to safety and protect you. I got these serious internal injuries for you. Even if I didn't do much, I did suffer."
Loren had to give Leo some credit for that.
"That's why I came to see Leo." Loren greeted Ashley and Kevin with a smile, "Kevin, Ashley, don't let Leo fool you. His injuries aren't that bad."
"Loren, come on!" Leo almost teared up. Could he not blow his cover? He was milking his injuries for some extra cash from his dad, and now it was all ruined.
Kevin chuckled, "Loren, are you hurt anywhere? Let me see."
"I'm fine." Loren said, spinning around to show Kevin, looking all cute and adorable.
Ashley and Kevin were amused.
Kevin knew about John's injuries, and since he was at the hospital, he had to check on him.
In the hospital room, John was resting after getting stitched up, while Todd was also in the room.
"Boss, why did ViperStrike suddenly go after Summer? Do they know who he really is?"
John shook his head and sat up. "ViperStrike is just a pawn in someone else's game."
"Who?" Todd thought for a moment. "Could it be the Wolfpack?"
"No." John pondered for a moment and asked, "Todd, do you think Summer and Loren look like me?"
Todd was taken aback and then laughed, "Now that you mention it, Summer does look a bit like you. What's up, boss?"
"ViperStrike said Summer and Loren are my kids."
"What a joke." Todd found it absurd. "Boss, I've known you for years, and you've only been with two women, Ms. White and Jennifer."
Realizing his slip, Todd clammed up.
"Boss, even if those kids look a bit like you, I can't believe they're yours. Where would you have gotten such grown-up kids?"
It was just ridiculous. John also found it hard to believe, but...
"I was drugged once and had a run-in with a woman." John frowned. "Considering the timing, it might be possible."
Todd was stunned. "It can't be that coincidental, boss. Are you sure?"
John thought for a moment, and said, "Find out who ordered ViperStrike, ASAP."
"Got it." Todd reminded, "Boss, don't take this rumor too seriously. If Ms. White hears about it, it could cause trouble."
Jane was pregnant, and now there were rumors of illegitimate kids, which could stir up drama.
"I know." John frowned, thinking back to that night.
Back then, John was desperate to find Jennifer and to counteract the drug's effects, he had been pretty rough with that girl.
Even after all these years, he could still vaguely hear the girl's pleas.
John hadn't given it much thought over the years, especially after Jennifer's incident, which left him with no time to find that girl and take responsibility.
"John, you feeling any better?" Aurora pushed the door open and walked in.
