Chapter 197 Aurora Single-Handedly Takes on the Wolfpack
Richard's words hit Aurora like a ton of bricks.
"Uncle, you must be kidding. My mom died from an illness. What revenge are you talking about?"
"Your mom didn't die from an illness. If it weren't for Alexander Johnson, she wouldn't have gotten sick and had organ failure." Richard's voice got more intense as he spoke.
Aurora was totally lost. Her mom did die from organ failure, but who the heck was Alexander? Her gut told her that asking more questions would dig up a whole lot of old grudges.
"Uncle, take it easy, no rush." Aurora handed Richard a glass of water.
Richard took a sip, calmed down a bit, and continued, "Aurora, have you ever heard of The Shadow of Darkness organization?"
"Yeah, I've heard of it. What's it got to do with this?"
"The guy responsible for your mom's death is the leader of The Shadow of Darkness, Alexander." Richard said, "Wolfpack was started by your mom, Alexander, and me. But then Alexander got greedy and left to start The Shadow of Darkness, doing all sorts of evil stuff. Your mom went to find Alexander without telling me, and then..."
Aurora was in shock. She always thought of her mom as gentle and graceful. It was hard to picture her founding Wolfpack with Richard.
From Richard's story, Aurora learned her mom got really sick after visiting Alexander, seemingly catching some weird virus. Later, without a word, she left and headed to Silver Crest City, where she met Dean and started living under a different name.
Richard had been searching for her mom for years, even going to The Shadow of Darkness, but found nothing.
Aurora had heard from John that the leader of The Shadow of Darkness was named Johnson, but she never expected Alexander had such a tangled past with her mom and Richard.
Richard blamed Alexander for her mom's death. Over the years, Wolfpack and The Shadow of Darkness had become mortal enemies, their grudges only growing deeper.
Now, with Richard's illness and all the internal and external problems, Wolfpack was in a tough spot.
After hearing all this, Aurora said, "Uncle, after Mom left Wolfpack, she lived in Silver Crest City for almost nine years. She died when I was eight. Isn't it a bit of a stretch to ask me to get revenge on Alexander now?"
Aurora couldn't just go after Alexander based on Richard's one-sided story. Plus, her mom's death didn't seem directly linked to Alexander.
What kind of virus could stay hidden in the body for nine years?
Aurora had heard from Dean that her mom almost died from severe bleeding when giving birth to her. After Aurora was born, her mom's health deteriorated rapidly. So, if you think about it, wouldn't that make Aurora feel responsible for her mom's death?
Richard, getting worked up, said, "Aurora, how can you say that? Your mom was killed by Alexander. As her daughter, how can you be so indifferent?"
'What a stubborn old man,' Aurora thought. Then she said to Richard, "Uncle, don't be mad. If I ever meet Alexander, I'll definitely get justice for Mom."
Richard clutched his chest and leaned back to catch his breath. "Forget it. Alexander is a selfish, cold-blooded, ruthless man. How could a young girl like you stand a chance against him? Going after him would be suicide."
Aurora felt a bit speechless. "Uncle, how did you and my mom fall out with Alexander?"
Richard's earlier words were too vague, and Aurora wasn't gullible enough to buy it all.
Richard looked at Aurora and sighed, "It's been over twenty years. I've forgotten how we fell out back then."
Aurora felt a bit helpless. "Uncle, come on. I bet, given how worked up you were just now, you even remember exactly what you ate that day."
"You really are like your mother, even in temperament," Richard said. "Your mother was too soft-hearted, which is why Alexander had a chance to rival Wolfpack."
"Uncle, even though I don't know much about the grudges between these organizations, I've heard a bit. With the strength of The Shadow of Darkness now, it's probably surpassed Wolfpack by now," Aurora analyzed. "If Alexander is as ruthless as you say, he would have taken over Wolfpack long ago. The fact that Wolfpack is still around must be because of my mother, right?"
"A lion, even when old, is still a lion. It's not that easy for him to take over Wolfpack. It would be a pyrrhic victory for him," Richard snorted, full of conceit. Suddenly, his eyes lit up as an idea struck him. "Aurora, why don't you become the leader of Wolfpack?"
"No, no, no, Uncle, stop joking like this," Aurora quickly refused. What a joke, how could she lead those people?
Richard was being really inconsiderate, dumping such a huge mess on her.
Richard took Aurora's hand and very seriously placed a necklace in her palm. "This is the token of the Wolfpack leader. Your mother and I each had one, and now you have them all. From now on, Wolfpack is yours. I have no children, and only by giving Wolfpack to you can I be at ease."
Aurora's expression turned sour. "Uncle, you can't do this to me. Why not give me some property or assets instead of a mess? I can't fight, I can't do business. I might get assassinated the moment I step out."
"You have brains," Richard said, full of faith in Aurora. "Aurora, don't underestimate yourself. I believe you can do it. Once you manage Wolfpack well, the money will naturally come. Oh, by the way, let Lori and Ava be your bodyguards. No one will be able to harm you."
"Uncle, is there no room for negotiation?"
"It's settled." Richard advised Aurora, "Hank is reliable. If you win him over, I believe you can quickly lead Wolfpack to new heights."
"Uncle, what about you?"
Richard immediately put on a weak, about-to-die look, and said with a feeble tone, "I'm old and done for. The future belongs to you young people. Aurora, you might not realize it, but you have a natural ability to lead and unite people."
Despite his weak appearance, Richard was swift and decisive in action. He immediately had news spread that Aurora was the new leader of Wolfpack. In less than half an hour, the headquarters and all branches received the news.
Aurora inexplicably became the leader of Wolfpack. And within an hour of her becoming the leader, chaos erupted at the headquarters, with people starting to fight.
Aurora immediately rushed to the headquarters, where a large, open area was filled with people fighting, probably a few hundred.
Aurora pursed her lips and said to Lori beside her, "I'm a bit nervous. It's my first time seeing such a big scene."
Seeing the fight, however, Lori was excited, "Aurora, I'll take some people to stop it."
"Forget it, let's just sit here and watch. Save our strength. We'll go over after they're done fighting." Aurora indeed sat down on a nearby flower bed to watch the fighting.
Lori and Ava exchanged glances.
Lori asked, "Aurora, are you sure you're not just being a coward?"
Aurora rolled her eyes. Could they not expose her? "Nonsense, this is called 'there is always a bigger fish.' It's strategy, not cowardice,"she retorted.
