Chapter 16: Sugary Kiss
When John arrived, he saw Aurora jumping into the sea.
At that moment, as he watched Aurora plunge into the water, it felt like countless explosives went off in his mind, all detonating at once.
Without hesitation, John jumped into the sea after her.
Sam and Todd, who followed closely, were deeply shocked.
Todd muttered, "The boss is completely smitten."
"Boss," Sam called out, glancing at the raging sea, and was about to jump in.
Todd grabbed him, "What are you jumping in for? The boss is playing the hero. You don't need to add to the chaos."
Todd glanced at the tall guy and the fat guy who were fleeing in panic and sneered, "That's what you should be doing."
Sam's face turned cold. He picked up two stones from the ground and threw them, hitting the two men's legs, causing them to kneel down.
In the water.
John found Aurora and pulled her into his arms.
Aurora had already passed out. John quickly kissed her lips, giving her air, and brought her to the surface.
Seeing John swimming to the surface with Aurora, Sam immediately went over, "Boss."
"To the hospital," John said, looking at the unconscious Aurora, his eyes filled with anger.
At the hospital.
VIP ward.
John had rented out the entire floor.
"Miss White had a fever but was not in any life-threatening danger, just temporarily unconscious." The doctor said.
The doctor's words slightly eased John's expression. He stayed by Aurora's bedside, his eyes full of tenderness.
Todd walked in, "Boss, Sam has already interrogated the two who kidnapped Miss White, and the result is quite surprising."
John's eyes turned cold, "Who ordered it?"
"It wasn't the Lewis family, but Percy from the Harris family," Todd was also surprised by the result. "By the way, we also found out something unexpected. Nicole is actually Percy's lover. Miss White's abduction is likely related to Nicole. With Percy backing her, it's no wonder Nicole is so arrogant."
John was also surprised, then his brows furrowed coldly, "No matter who it is, anyone who dares to harm her is courting death."
"Boss, it's like winning a Pyrrhic victory," Todd quickly advised. "With the Lewis family's strength, we can indeed contend with the Harris family, but we would also suffer heavy losses. Making a big scene will only put Miss White in more danger."
The Harris family was one of the four major families in Silvercrest City, with a century-old foundation, not easy to shake.
But it was not impossible.
However, the Lewis family would also suffer significant losses.
John spread rumors about his impending death to weed out the traitors within the Lewis family.
Aurora's appearance was an accident. If John changed his plans for Aurora, it could lead to internal and external troubles, and the consequences would be dire.
John pondered for a moment, holding Aurora's hand, a cold glint in his deep eyes, "Break one of Chris Harris's legs."
Chris was Percy's favorite youngest son.
"Boss, if you really do that, it will create a feud with the Harris family."
John gave Todd a cold look, "It was the Harris family who crossed me. One leg is just a small punishment."
Todd knew this was John's final concession. Otherwise, with John's temperament, lives would be at stake.
Aurora, in her coma, didn't know that John, in a fit of rage, avenged her.
But how could breaking a leg compensate for the trauma of Aurora nearly drowning?
In just three hours, Johnson Group's market value inexplicably evaporated by a billion dollars.
The White Family.
Nicole was applying a face mask, waiting for news. When the phone rang, she answered cheerfully.
"Percy, is it done? Is that girl Aurora dead?"
"Who the hell is backing Aurora? None of my men came back. I had Aurora kidnapped, and then Chris had his leg broken, and the company suffered multiple attacks, losing a billion dollars."
Percy was furious on the other end of the line.
Nicole's smile froze, and she was terrified, "Percy, how could this be? Aurora doesn't have anyone backing her. Did Chris offend someone? If Aurora had someone backing her, how could I have driven her out?"
Percy questioned, "You said Mr. Lewis went to the White family today. What was it about?"
"I don't know. Mr. Lewis and Dean talked in the study," Nicole quickly said. "But it definitely wasn't the Lewis family backing Aurora. The fact that Mr. Lewis didn't pursue the matter after Aurora ran away from the marriage is already fortunate."
Percy was silent for a moment. He had considered it might be the Lewis family, but he knew the head of the Lewis family was rumored to be dying, rarely going out or showing up, and had called off the marriage with the White family.
Aurora alone wasn't enough for the Lewis family to go against the Harris family.
That was why Percy called Nicole to ask if there was someone else behind Aurora.
"Behave yourself from now on, and don't provoke Aurora. I want to see who is backing her."
"Okay," Nicole didn't dare say anything more. "Percy, is Chris okay? Which hospital is he in? I'll go visit."
"What are you going to do? Just keep Emily in line and let her be Mrs. Taylor," Percy said before hanging up.
Nicole's face turned grim, and just then, Emily walked in. "Mom, what's wrong? Did Uncle Harris succeed?"
"Something went wrong," Nicole's face was ashen. "Aurora isn't dead, and Chris's leg was broken. Your Uncle Harris is furious."
"Chris is crippled?" Emily's face lit up with joy. "Serves him right. He's Uncle Harris's favorite son. With Chris disabled, Uncle Harris might like me more, and maybe the Harris family fortune will come to me, letting me reclaim my heritage."
"Emily," Nicole quickly covered Emily's mouth, glancing warily at the door before closing it. "Be careful, walls have ears."
"Mom, what are you afraid of?" Emily said. "The White family is going bankrupt. You need to plan for your future. Being a Harris family heiress is much more prestigious than being a White family daughter. Uncle Harris promised me that he would let me reclaim my heritage."
"Emily, it's not that simple," Nicole saw things more clearly than Emily. She had been Percy's mistress for so many years, always in secret, and even Emily couldn't reclaim her heritage.
Unfortunately, Nicole had given birth to a daughter, not a son.
"Uncle Harris loves me so much. I have Harris family blood in me. It's only a matter of time before I reclaim my heritage."
Nicole looked at Emily's hopeful face and couldn't bear to tell her Percy's exact words.
"Mom, by the way, what happened to that woman Aurora?"
"I don't know. None of the people your Uncle Harris sent have returned," Nicole remembered something and asked, "Emily, you mentioned Aurora had a boyfriend who gave her a $120,000 'Heart of the Goddess' bracelet. Do you know anything about him?"
Emily scoffed, "He's just a poor guy, dressed in cheap clothes, driving a car worth about ten thousand dollars. There's no way he could afford such an expensive bracelet. Aurora must be lying. That bracelet must be fake, and Andy just got it wrong."
Emily didn't believe for a second that the bracelet was real. Even if it was, she thought Aurora must have sold herself to some nouveau riche to get it.
Aurora woke up the next morning, feeling weak all over after the fever had subsided.
When she opened her eyes, she saw the leaves outside the window, sunlight dancing on them, giving her a sense of a long-lost reunion.
Her throat was very sore, and after coughing a few times, Aurora realized she was still alive and hadn't drowned.
Memories of the previous night flooded her mind. After falling into the water, she seemed to hear John's voice.
'Could it be that John saved me?' she wondered.
The noise inside the room alerted the people outside. John pushed the door open and entered. Seeing Aurora awake, he felt a surge of joy.
"Aurora, you're awake," John said, helping her sit up. "Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"
Aurora looked at John, her eyes suddenly reddening. Moved, she threw herself into John's arms.
She had almost died last night.
Thinking about it now, she was still very scared.
John held Aurora in his arms and said softly, "With me here, there's no need to be afraid."
He felt Aurora trembling in his arms. She must have been terrified last night.
At that moment, John had a stronger desire than ever before. He wanted to protect the woman in his arms for a lifetime.
Aurora clutched John's clothes tightly and sniffled, and after calming down, she pulled away from his embrace.
Over the years, no matter what happened, she had always faced it alone. It was the first time someone told her not to be afraid.
"How did you find me?"
John had already prepared an explanation. "I called your phone, but it was off. I had a bad feeling, so I called the police immediately. The police found you, but the kidnappers escaped."
John naturally wouldn't tell Aurora that the two kidnappers had disappeared from Silvercrest City for good.
Aurora couldn't imagine what would have happened if John hadn't found her. Would she have died?
Aurora didn't dwell on whether John's words were true or not.
What she felt from him was an unprecedented warmth.
After she fell into the water, it seemed like someone had jumped in after her and kissed her lips.
"John, you're so good to me. What if I can't live without you in the future?"
After what happened with Daniel, Aurora didn't dare to give her heart away completely.
But John was so good to her.
It was like a child who had never tasted candy, and once she did, she couldn't give it up.
"Silly woman, what are you thinking?" John gently tapped Aurora's nose, his eyes full of tenderness. "You're already my woman. Unless I die, you'll never leave me in this lifetime."
Hearing the word "die," Aurora instinctively placed her finger on John's lips. "Don't say such things."
John smiled, holding her hand and kissing it gently.
A tingling sensation spread from her palm, and Aurora's cheeks turned red.
Just then, a nurse came in with medication. "Miss White, it's time to take your medicine."
Aurora blushed and pulled her hand back, giving John a glare.
John's smile deepened.
The nurse put down the medicine and gave a few instructions before leaving.
Aurora hated taking medicine. Just looking at it made her cringe. "Can I not take it? It's too bitter."
"No," John said, pouring her a glass of water. "Good medicine tastes bitter."
Aurora frowned, took the medicine, and swallowed it in one go, quickly drinking the water, but the bitterness lingered in her mouth.
Before she could recover from the bitter taste, she heard John say, "Open your mouth."
Aurora instinctively opened her mouth, and before she realized it, John kissed her lips with a piece of candy in his mouth.
