Chapter 424 Pregnant with a Child, Cried with Excitement
Todd lay sprawled out on the ground, the world spinning around him.
The punching bag bounced back, and Lori caught it with one hand, then crouched down, staring at Todd. "What did you just call me?"
"Darling?"
So cheesy.
Todd sat up, trying to steady himself. "Aren't you feeling unwell? Why are you boxing? From now on, no more weights, no treadmill, nothing. It's too dangerous."
"For someone as weak as you, sure. For me, it's a piece of cake."
Lori stood up and effortlessly lifted a hundred-pound dumbbell to demonstrate.
Todd was speechless.
"Put it down, put it down."
Lori dropped the dumbbell with a loud thud.
"My poor heart," Todd clutched his chest, almost having a heart attack.
"You're so dramatic. I just lifted a weight," Lori said, grabbing a bottle of water. "What are you doing here? How did you get in?"
"I climbed through the window." Todd glanced at Lori's stomach, trying to contain his excitement. "How are you feeling now?"
Lori looked confused. "What do you mean?"
"Your body."
"Pretty good. Worked up a sweat, feeling energized." Lori concluded, "Looks like I need to exercise more often. I've been slacking lately."
Todd immediately said, "You can't exercise anymore."
Lori found it odd. "String Bean, what's up with you today? What does my exercise routine have to do with you?"
"Of course it matters. You might be..."
"Might be what?"
Not wanting to jump to conclusions, Todd cautiously asked, "I heard from Aurora that you've been feeling nauseous?"
"Yeah, a bit earlier, but I'm fine now," Lori said nonchalantly, but then she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. "Oh no."
Todd got nervous. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell again? I'll take you to the hospital."
Lori winced, waving him off. "Just a bit of stomach pain, nothing serious. Probably overdid it. Damn it, Todd, you're so annoying."
"We should go to the hospital for a check-up. Health is important."
"I'm not going. I hate hospitals. I'll lie down on the couch for a bit. Don't bother me, my head hurts." Lori rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
Todd was frantic. "Are you sure you're okay? I think we should see a doctor. If you don't want to go, I'll call one here."
"I said I'm fine." Lori's temper flared. "If you keep nagging, get out."
Her discomfort made her irritable.
Todd immediately shut up. Early pregnancy was like that, with mood swings. He needed to be careful.
Lori went to her room to rest, but the pain in her lower abdomen didn't go away. It got worse, and she started sweating.
Lori was tough. She once went on a mission with Ava, hiding in the desert for over two weeks without a complaint.
Todd went to the kitchen to make some food, planning to calm Lori down before discussing the hospital.
He brought a bowl of sweet soup to the room and found Lori rummaging through a drawer.
"Lori, what are you looking for?"
"Painkillers." Lori found the pills.
Her voice was weak. Seeing the painkillers, Todd rushed over and snatched them away. "You can't take these. If you do, you'll harm our baby."
"Baby?" Lori stared at Todd. "What are you talking about? You're not making any sense today."
Todd held the painkillers tightly. "Aurora said you were nauseous. Those are early pregnancy symptoms."
"What?"
She didn't get it?
Todd sighed. "You might be pregnant. With my child."
He said the last part shyly, his tone almost fatherly.
Lori was stunned for a few seconds. "Impossible."
"How is it impossible?" Todd said. "You're always so careless. It's normal not to know. Let's go to the hospital and check."
"I said it's impossible." Lori insisted. "I can't be pregnant with your child."
Todd's first reaction was, "Not mine? Then whose?"
Lori was silent.
The doorbell rang.
Allan's voice came from downstairs. "Lori?"
"Allan's?"
Todd was instantly deflated.
Lori had drooled over Allan's muscles before. Knowing Lori, it was possible she had sex with him.
"Are you looking for a fight?" Lori smacked Todd on the back of his head.
Todd didn't dodge, and he certainly didn't hit back. He just slumped.
"Why didn't you dodge?" Lori was surprised.
Todd didn't respond, his head hanging low.
The doorbell kept ringing. Lori, enduring the pain, went downstairs to open the door.
Allan was about to leave, thinking no one was home, but turned back when he heard the door open.
"Lori, you're home."
"Mr. Jennings, what do you need?"
"I wanted to ask if Ava has returned."
"Mr. Jennings, is something wrong with Ava? She's been gone for over two weeks with no word..."
Before she could finish, Lori's vision went black, and she collapsed. "Lori."
"Lori."
Todd, who had been eavesdropping from the stairs, saw Lori fall and rushed over, faster than Allan, catching her.
"Lori? Lori?" Todd patted her face, but she didn't respond. He yelled at Allan, "Get the car, we're going to the hospital."
"Okay." Allan didn't mind Todd's tone and quickly went to get the car.
At the hospital.
Todd, holding Lori, was frantic. "Doctor, please, help her."
Allan had never seen Todd so out of control.
Lori in his arms seemed to be his everything.
Usually carefree, Todd was completely different when he cared about someone.
Doctors rushed out, placing Lori on a gurney.
The surgery light came on, and Todd clenched his hands, muttering, "She'll be fine. Lori's tough. She'll be fine."
Allan asked, "What's wrong with Lori?"
Todd didn't even look at Allan. "Lori's pregnant."
"That fast?"
Allan meant their relationship progressed quickly, but Todd took it another way.
Todd looked at Allan, feeling a sudden urge to cry.
He couldn't hold it in, covering his face and squatting down.
Allan was puzzled.
What did this mean?
Lori being pregnant made Todd so emotional that he cried?
