Chapter 155 Singing Proposal
Lloyd sat at the head of the table, watching his family gather around, feeling super happy.
Helen woke up and joined everyone in wishing Lloyd well.
Lloyd had eight sons; the oldest had passed away, leaving seven. Those sons had kids, and with some extended family and distant relatives, the Lewis clan was nearly a hundred strong.
It was a big family, no doubt.
Seeing all his descendants below the stage, Lloyd got a bit teary-eyed.
His biggest regret was not having a great-grandchild.
He thought Jane was pregnant, but it turned out to be a scam, which made him feel a bit down.
After the emcee finished the opening remarks, it was Lloyd's turn to speak.
He grabbed the mic but waved at Aurora with a smile. "Aurora, come here."
Aurora had no clue what Lloyd wanted; she glanced at John, who gave her a nod and led her to Lloyd's side.
Lloyd looked at John and Aurora standing together and smiled at the guests. "First off, thanks for coming to celebrate my birthday. I'm really happy today. Seeing the Lewis family together brings me great joy. I also want to share some good news. John has a girlfriend now, and I think everyone knows this. I'm very pleased with Aurora. We'll be setting and announcing their wedding date soon."
His words lit up the room. John Lewis getting married?
The news of their relationship had just come out, and now they had Lloyd's blessing and were setting a wedding date.
The socialites were green with envy and jealousy over Aurora.
John used to be a cripple with a messed-up face and a short life expectancy; no one was interested. Who wanted to be a widow?
Now that John was "recovered," the socialites were all over him.
John was a top catch in SilverCrest City. Forget the Lewis family's power and influence; just John's face alone made them swoon, even without a title.
Aurora felt the envious and jealous stares from all around. She shot John a look. "You're making me the public enemy."
John grinned and whispered, "Should I scar my face? Then no one will want me."
"Don't you dare." Aurora pinched his cheek and looked around. "With a face like that, if we ever argue, I can at least look at it to calm down."
"Let them be envious and jealous," John said in a low voice. "I'm yours alone."
"Did Lloyd announce the wedding because you suggested it?"
"Aurora, you're wrong. He is decisive. On such a good day, it's natural Grandpa wants to double the joy."
Aurora glanced at John. "Don't think just because the wedding is announced, I'll marry you. Without a proper proposal, I might just run away on the wedding day again."
John's previous proposals were just words, not romantic at all.
"You women are so contradictory."
Aurora snorted. "Marriage happens only once. It's the most important day in a woman's life. Wanting it to be romantic is our right."
"Fine, you'll get everything you want," John said with a grand gesture. "As my woman, you deserve a one-of-a-kind proposal."
They chatted like no one else was around, looking all flirty and cozy.
This scene really got to Sandra. She secretly snapped some photos of Aurora and John's intimate moment and sent them to someone she had saved as "Sis."
After the first part of the event, guests started eating, drinking, and gossiping about John and Aurora.
John had been married four times, and the socialites couldn't stop talking about it.
"Mr. Lewis is really getting married. Such a catch, and Aurora snagged him."
"Yeah, it's so unfair."
"When Mr. Lewis was crippled and disfigured, none of you jumped at the chance. Who can you blame now?"
"Everyone said Mr. Lewis was going to die. Who dared to marry him and become a widow?"
"Mr. Lewis has had three wives, each lasting less than two months. I bet Aurora won't last more than two months either."
"Wow, that's harsh, cursing someone to die."
"Just talking. Talking can't kill someone. I don't believe it."
"Nowadays, no man can stay with one woman for life. Believe me, Mr. Lewis will eventually like a new woman."
"Women are like clothes; few can last a lifetime."
"I don't think Aurora has what it takes to keep Mr. Lewis for life."
"Come on, let's bet. Do you want to place a bet?"
The whole banquet hall was buzzing with talk about John and Aurora.
Aurora couldn't avoid hearing it even if she tried. She asked, "John, do you want to place a bet too?"
They weren't even married yet, and people were already betting on their breakup.
John's face darkened as he walked over to the socialites and suddenly said, "Ladies, placing bets? Since you're all betting on us divorcing, then I'll bet on us never divorcing. If I lose, I'll buy whatever bags you want in the future."
Hearing his words, the socialites didn't dare say anything more.
Aurora was furious. "John, that was too extravagant."
These socialites' bags easily cost a million dollars.
John's pampering of Aurora made everyone envious.
At the birthday banquet, many guests congratulated Aurora, but only they knew how sincere they were.
"Aurora, congratulations! Finally, you're getting married," Sophia said enthusiastically, who was genuinely sincere.
Todd also said, "Ms. White, cheers."
Aurora raised her glass. "Thank you for today."
After today, Aurora's status would be even more different. But only Aurora herself knew the anxiety in her heart.
At that moment, the lights in the hall suddenly went out, and the stage lights came on.
Not seeing John, Aurora asked, "Where did John go?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she heard Loren's voice, "He is on stage."
Aurora looked at the stage, her eyes widening in surprise.
John was sitting at a piano, dressed in a white suit, looking elegant like a prince. No, he was a prince, exuding nobility and innate grace. Was he going to perform a piece?
Todd whistled. "Boss, we're rooting for you. I haven't seen you perform in years. You have to go all out to win Ms. White."
John's gaze was fixed on Aurora, with the spotlight shining on them, making it seem like they were the only two people in the world. Melodious and passionate soulful notes flowed from his fingers, and a romantic love song came from his mouth.
John could sing? Aurora was surprised.
His rich and deep voice, the song was so charming.
