Chapter 431 How Could It Be Him
The next day, as Aurora walked past the flower shop on her way to her store, she noticed Karolyn wasn't there.
A man, the shop owner, was tending the store.
Aurora approached him and asked, "Hey, where's Karolyn today?"
"She took the day off. She's in the hospital," the owner replied. "She's had a rough time with the pregnancy. Last night, she started bleeding and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance."
Aurora remembered that Karolyn seemed fine when she dropped her off. Could it have been from a scare?
As they spoke, the shop owner was clearing out some oleanders and daffodils. Aurora asked, "These flowers look fine. Why are you getting rid of them?"
"I just found out they're not good for pregnant women. Too much exposure can even cause infertility. Karolyn might have started bleeding because she spent too much time around these flowers. So, I'm getting rid of them."
"Did a customer tell you that?"
The shop owner looked surprised. "How did you know?"
Aurora understood. It must have been that same customer from before.
"She told me too," Aurora said with a smile. "I won't keep you from your work. By the way, is Karolyn alone in the hospital? Does she have anyone to take care of her?"
"No, her ex-husband is with her. When I went this morning, he was already there," the owner said. "After all, the baby is his. Men take their bloodline very seriously."
Aurora frowned. Could she have been overthinking things?
Was Karolyn really okay?
Aurora went to her store, took care of a few things, and then drove to Lori's place.
Lori had been having health issues and was stubborn about it. Aurora couldn't just ignore her.
When Aurora arrived at Lori's place, it was eerily quiet.
"Lori, Lori."
Aurora called out twice, but there was no response. She checked the bedroom, but Lori wasn't there.
She called Lori's phone, but it rang inside the house.
Lori wasn't home, but her phone was. Where could she have gone?
Just then, the doorbell rang. It was Todd.
Aurora opened the door, and Todd looked surprised to see her. "Aurora, what are you doing here? Where's Lori?"
"She's not home," Aurora said. "I just got here. I heard Lori had another nosebleed, so I came to convince her to see a doctor on the island."
"With her stubbornness, only you could convince her," Todd said as he walked in. Suddenly, he noticed something off about the air. "Aurora, you said Lori's not here?"
"Yes, she's not home, and her phone is still here."
Todd immediately checked the back window and found signs of it being pried open.
"Damn, Lori's in danger," Todd said. "I can smell a faint trace of ether. Something's happened to her."
Ether could knock someone out.
There were no signs of a struggle in the house, which meant whoever took Lori did it quietly and efficiently. Given Lori's recent health issues, she might have been an easy target.
Aurora and Todd exchanged a glance, and Aurora quickly ran upstairs. Lori had installed surveillance cameras in the house. They could find out what happened by checking the footage.
Aurora turned on the computer and connected to the surveillance system, rewinding to the time before Lori went missing.
About an hour before Aurora arrived, Lori, looking pale and unsteady, came downstairs to get some water.
As she drank, two men attacked her from behind, covering her mouth with a towel and quickly injecting something into her neck.
In just a few seconds, Lori lost consciousness. She didn't even have time to fight back, likely due to her weakened state.
"Lori," Todd shouted at the screen, distressed.
The two men were strangers to both Aurora and Todd. As they carried Lori away, Aurora noticed a distinctive tattoo on one man's arm, and her face turned pale.
"How could it be him?"
