Chapter 353: Lori Disguised as Aurora
Helen glanced around but didn't see anyone. There were no children in sight.
Helen dialed the previous number again, but it was still a dead number.
"Jax, where are you? Grandma is so sorry," Helen muttered to herself, guilt heavy in her voice.
In her rush to leave earlier, Helen had forgotten to take an umbrella. Standing in the rain for just a moment, she was already soaked.
Just as Helen was at a loss, the phone rang again. It was another unfamiliar number, a virtual number.
Helen didn't care what number it was and immediately answered, "Did you take my grandson? I'm here now. Give me back my grandson. You can have whatever you want, any amount of money."
A hoarse female voice on the other end replied, "I don't want your money. I want your life. Are you willing to give it?"
The hoarse voice was chilling, making Helen's spine tingle.
For a moment, Helen felt like she was being strangled. After a few seconds of internal struggle, she replied firmly, "If you want my life, take it. I've lived long enough. Just give me back my grandson."
The person on the other end laughed, a laugh that sent shivers down Helen's spine.
"How touching," the person commented, covering her mouth as she laughed for a while. Then she continued, "Helen, you always looked down on me and preferred Aurora as the daughter-in-law of the Lewis family. My tragedy, my downfall, you had a hand in it. If you want your grandson back, go to the bridge now and stand on the bridge deck, immediately."
"Is that you, Sandra?" Helen was very surprised. "Sandra, how did you become like this? You can't force love. My son doesn't like you; he loves Aurora. Why can't you let it go? You're being so stubborn. This is wrong. You'll only hurt yourself."
"Enough talk. If you want your grandson, stand on the bridge deck now. Hurry up!" The person on the other end shouted impatiently.
"Okay, I'm going now." As soon as Helen finished speaking, the call was disconnected.
Helen had no other choice but to follow the instructions. She walked onto the bridge, standing in the rain, shivering from the cold wind.
Below the bridge was a rushing river. Helen stood there waiting.
On the other side.
Aurora also drove to the Virtual Bridge, but the exact location given to her was a bit away from where Helen was.
One was on this side of the bridge, the other on the opposite side.
It was late at night, and the rain affected visibility.
Aurora didn't see Helen. Her mind was filled with thoughts of Jax.
Not long after Aurora's car stopped, another identical Mercedes stopped 1200 feet away.
The person in the car was Lori.
Lori was dressed exactly like Aurora, even her hair was styled the same. In the rearview mirror, Lori's face had also been transformed to look like Aurora's.
This was Lori's prized possession and her lifesaving trick—a human skin mask.
Of course, it wasn't actually made of human skin. If it were, Lori herself would find it creepy to wear.
Lori looked at herself in the mirror. She was no stranger to disguises; it was routine. But disguising herself as Aurora felt a bit awkward.
Lori checked the earpiece hidden in her clothes and tested it, "Hello, hello, Aurora, can you hear me?"
In the other car, Aurora heard Lori's voice through the earpiece and replied, "Yes, I can hear you. Are you there?"
"I'm parked not far behind you!" Lori asked, "Any word from the other side?"
Just as Lori finished speaking, a message popped up on Aurora's phone, instructing her to enter the nearby music bar.
Aurora glanced to the side and spotted a bar. It wasn't busy; in fact, it looked pretty deserted, with the door closed and clearly not open for business.
Aurora relayed the message to Lori, "They want me to go into the bar. Do you see it?"
Lori glanced outside, "I see it. I'll go in."
Aurora reminded her, "Lori, be careful. If there's any danger, call me."
There was definitely something strange about the bar, and Aurora was worried about Lori's safety.
Lori teased, "Aurora, if I can't handle it and end up calling you for help, it would be a death sentence. Don't worry, I haven't been surviving all these years for nothing. I've seen all kinds of situations. You go find the child."
Aurora replied, "I'm more worried about your intelligence than your combat skills."
Lori was speechless.
"Don't worry. It's just Sandra. What can't I handle? I'm going in now. Keep the line open so you can know what's happening on my end and act accordingly." Lori added.
"Okay." Aurora agreed.
Aurora had found Lori earlier to discuss their strategy. Since John had said the other side would definitely show up, she couldn't just sit and wait.
Aurora's original plan was for Lori to follow in the shadows, but Lori suggested taking her place instead.
Aurora knew Lori was the right person for the job. If something happened, Lori could easily escape. But they couldn't discount all the risks; it was a gamble.
If the other side was really Sandra, Sandra wouldn't be kind enough to hand over the child. Given Sandra's deep hatred for her, she would definitely show up.
This was Aurora's only chance to find Jax.
Using Lori as bait was a last resort.
Lori got out of the car, opened an umbrella, and walked towards the bar.
She mimicked Aurora's voice and stride perfectly. Aurora watched from the car as Lori walked by, passed her car, and reached the bar door.
Lori's disguise was so good that even Aurora couldn't tell the difference.
Lori glanced back at Aurora, then pushed open the bar door.
The door wasn't locked. Inside, dim colored lights were on. Lori closed the umbrella and held the handle.
The bar was empty. There wasn't a person in sight.
Lori lowered her voice and spoke into the earpiece, "Aurora, there's no one inside."
"Don't move. Stay alert." Aurora spoke while also observing the surroundings. Sandra could be nearby.
There were many cars parked on both sides of the river, with people possibly watching from inside.
Lori followed Aurora's advice and stayed still.
The bar was very quiet. Lori was about to sit down and rest when she heard footsteps from the second floor. Judging by the sound, there were eight people.
Lori looked up and saw eight different types of men walking towards her. They stood in a line in front of Lori and bowed, saying in unison, "Good evening, Miss."
Lori was stunned.
This made Lori feel like she was in a bar hiring male prostitute. She almost wanted to say, "Bring in another batch."
There were all sorts of guys – some muscular, others with an elegant, refined look, and a few with a seductive vibe. One even had on a flight attendant uniform and glasses, trying to pull off that scholarly look.
Lori couldn't help but swallow and mutter to herself, "Oh my, I'm so lucky today. I like every type."
Aurora heard Lori's muttering through the earpiece and asked in confusion, "What's going on?"
Lori lowered her voice and replied, "They've prepared eight male prostitute for me. To be precise, for you."
Lori looked at the eight men, almost drooling, and shamelessly reached out to touch the muscular man's chest, praising, "Your skin is so smooth."
Aurora was speechless.
She knew Lori was unreliable.
The bar had surveillance cameras. In another car, a woman with bandages on her face was watching the scene in the bar.
Seeing Lori reach out to tease the muscular man, the woman was surprised, then sneered, "Aurora, I knew you were a promiscuous slut. With John not around, you can't resist men."
Aurora's reputation was ruined by Lori's one action.
In the bar, Lori, with Aurora's face, put her hand on the muscular man's shoulder and started chatting, "Sir, where are you from? How did you get into this line of work? Who sent you?"
Lori's hand occasionally touched the muscular man, then turned her attention to the scholarly-looking guy, "Sir, you're so handsome. Is this your first time?"
The scholarly man blushed and nodded, "Yes."
Sandra had hired these men to ruin Aurora, but now the situation had completely changed. The men Sandra hired were being toyed with Lori.
Aurora heard Lori's teasing through the earpiece and held her forehead, silently praying to ignore it.
