Chapter 181 John found out that Aurora was pregnant.
John had traveled thousands of miles just to find some warmth.
But Aurora's next words completely threw him off.
She pressed her hands against his chest. "John, if you keep messing around, your daughter is gonna start bugging me again."
"Who dares to bother you? I'll handle them." John didn't get it at first. When he did, his face was priceless. "Aurora, what did you just say? Daughter? Where did that come from?"
"Here." Aurora placed his hand on her belly and smiled. "Still wanna mess around?"
John's face went blank, and his hand froze. Shock flashed in his eyes, quickly replaced by pure joy.
"Wait, you're pregnant?" John was so excited that he could barely get the words out.
Aurora nodded. "Yep, I have tested it a bunch of times. I'm pregnant."
John stared at her belly, grinning so hard his face almost cramped. "We're having a baby? I have a daughter."
He gently touched her belly, scared to use any force, worried he might hurt the baby.
Seeing his cautious look, Aurora laughed. "I'm carrying a baby, not a bomb. Relax."
"Oh, right. Let me touch." John squatted beside her, eyes glued to her belly. Usually so cool and decisive, he now looked a bit silly.
He gently caressed her belly. Even though he couldn't feel anything yet, he was over the moon, his heart melting.
"John," Aurora called softly. Thinking about the baby inside her, she felt happy and full of anticipation.
She cupped his face and kissed his forehead. "I love you."
It wasn't the first time she'd said it, nor the first time he'd heard it, but it was the first time she said it so seriously.
John, still squatting, grabbed her hand and kissed it. "Aurora, thank you. You must be exhausted."
He stood up and sat beside her, pulling her into his arms. "From now on, you and the baby are my whole world."
Hearing his sweet words, Aurora felt a bit worried. "John, Summer and Loren, I don't expect you to treat them the same, but they are also my children. I hope you..."
"They're my kids too. I promise, no favoritism. I'll treat them equally." John held her hand. "If you're still worried, when we get back, I'll transfer two-thirds of my assets to Summer and Loren, and leave the rest for our daughter."
"No need." Aurora didn't want his money; she wanted his commitment. "I trust you."
John caressed her belly and sighed, "Guess we can't make love now."
Thinking about the months ahead, John felt a bit frustrated.
Aurora laughed, "Be serious."
"Aurora, let's just have this one baby." John said, "I heard childbirth is risky. If you weren't already pregnant, I would've been fine with just Summer and Loren."
Aurora snorted, "I know what you're up to, John. If you cheat on me, I can cheat too and then kick you out."
From pregnancy to childbirth, John would have to abstain for at least a year. At his age, his desires were at their peak, so Aurora had to set some ground rules.
Seeing her serious look, John laughed, "You little fool, from now on, all my time is yours. Aurora, lie in my arms and rest for a bit."
"What?" Aurora realized. "You're not planning to go back?"
"You're running around with our daughter in you, so I can only follow you." John said, "Besides, I haven't been to the Wolfpack headquarters yet and we haven't found its location, so it is acceptable to take a look."
Aurora, feeling a bit helpless, said, "Don't cause any trouble."
Nightfall and Wolfpack were at odds, and John was the leader of Nightfall. If he went to the Wolfpack headquarters alone and got discovered, it would be a big problem.
"I heard there's some internal strife in Wolfpack. I can't let you go there alone," John said. "Don't worry; my current identity is your fiancé. No one will notice."
John planned to use his cover as the head of the Lewis Group to infiltrate Wolfpack.
John had always controlled Nightfall from the shadows, and few had seen his true face, so it was relatively safe.
Moreover, Aurora had her own reasons too. She didn't want John to go back, especially since Jennifer was still in Silver Crest City. So she agreed to let John tag along.
Aurora nestled in John's arms and started to feel sleepy. "What did you tell Jennifer?"
"My whereabouts, except for you, don't need to be explained to anyone." John's answer was perfect.
Aurora, satisfied, smiled and hugged John as she drifted off to sleep.
As the first rays of morning light shone on the earth, Aurora was still asleep. John didn't wake her; he just quietly watched over her.
Because of Aurora, his heart was completely full, and he just wanted to give her the best.
Now, he still owed Aurora a wedding.
Looking at Aurora's sleeping face, John felt a surge of emotion and leaned down to kiss her lips.
When one loved someone, no amount of intimacy felt like enough.
Aurora woke up. She opened her eyes, stretched her arms, and smiled at John. "Good morning, darling."
Waking up to see the one you loved was a very happy thing.
John smiled. "When are you planning to leave here?"
"That depends on Lori." Aurora suddenly remembered something. "Oh no, what time is it?"
"Nine-thirty."
"We need to go back quickly; Loren should be awake." Aurora quickly tidied her clothes.
The two went back together, just in time to catch Lori and the others having breakfast.
"Mommy, Uncle John!" Loren was very happy to see John. He had learned from Lori that Aurora went to see John.
Lori wasn't surprised to see Aurora bring John back. She whistled. "Hello, John."
As Lori spoke, she also sized up John. She had only seen him through a telescope before, never this clearly up close.
His looks were undeniable, and he was definitely the most handsome man Lori had ever seen.
John also glanced at Lori and Ava. He smiled and said, "Thanks for going easy on me before."
Lori laughed. "If you haven't been assassinated a hundred times, you wouldn't have such sharp reflexes. Future Brother-in-law, you must be really hated for someone to offer a hundred million for your life. How about you give me some money, and I'll kill the employer for you?"
John smiled, his tone helpless. "Aurora manages all the money at home."
"Stingy." Lori finally understood what it meant to be a family. Trying to get a penny out of Aurora was impossible, and John shouldn't expect it either.
Aurora was about to speak when her phone suddenly rang. Unexpectedly, it was a call from Dean.
Aurora glanced at John and answered, "Dad, what's up?"
After drinking together last time, Aurora had let go of her resentment and prejudice against Dean. So she had started calling him Dad again.
"Aurora, come to save me; someone is trying to kill me, ah..."
After a scream from Dean, there was no sound. Then a woman's voice came through the phone, "Aurora, I'll give you half a day. If you don't come, prepare to face your dad's body."
"Hey, who are you? Hey..." Aurora couldn't recognize the voice, and the call was disconnected.
