Chapter 321: What You Fear Will Come

Lori was determined to drag someone down with her if things went south.

The key point is, Todd actually lent his car to Lori. He sat in the passenger seat while Lori drived his sedan like it was a sports car.

Lori was venting.

Todd was terrified, gripping his toes tightly, not daring to make a sound.

Lori specifically chose rugged mountain roads, and the car bumped all the way. Todd heard the car clanking, feeling a pang of sympathy for his poor sedan.

This is a sedan, not a sports car.

Luckily, it was modified, or it wouldn't have survived Lori's aggressive driving.

Suddenly, the car's chassis was completely wrecked, and the car stalled.

Lori glanced at the car and complained, "Todd, what kind of crappy car is this? It can't even handle a drive?"

Todd was speechless, "Lori, this car is just for commuting to work. You insisted on driving it like a sports car; there's nothing I can do."

He had spent millions of dollars modifying this car and had barely driven it. Now, Lori had almost wrecked it.

They were on the mountain now; walking down wasn't an option.

Lori looked at the mountain top and asked, "What's that mountain?"

"Peach Blossom Mountain," Todd replied. "It's peach blossom season now. Do you want to take a look?"

Lori wasn't in the mood. She got out of the car, stood on one leg on the ground, placed one leg on the car's hood, and gazed into the distance.

The sun was rising, painting the sky red. It was breathtakingly beautiful, making it hard to tell if it was sunrise or sunset.

"Ava and I have a dream. Once we save enough money, we'll find a small island, buy it, and live there, away from the world."

Todd walked up to her and asked, "How much have you saved so far?"

"We've saved..." Lori realized she almost revealed her savings, "Why should I tell you?"

Todd chuckled, "You used to say things about me, but I think you and Ava are the ones with something going on. You two are inseparable; I think there's something fishy."

"Bullshit, we're just friends," Lori glared at Todd, "You don't understand. Ava is like family to me; she's more important than my life."

Todd suddenly felt jealous of Ava. How important must Ava be in Lori's heart for her to say such things?

Usually, Lori was reckless and disorganized, never thinking things through. But after Ava was taken, Lori didn't act on impulse. Even when she broke into the police station, she backed out.

Because Lori knew she couldn't afford to get into trouble; otherwise, no one would save Ava.

But once there was news of Ava, Lori would stop at nothing to rescue her.

If she couldn't stay here, she and Ava would leave and never come back.

Aurora went to the company, and as soon as she sat down, Sophia came in.

Sophia voiced, "Aurora, can I work at your company?"

"What's gotten into you?" Aurora was stunned and laughed, "Didn't you say you wanted to live a carefree life? Your dad gives you millions every month, and you want to work here?"

"I've thought it over. Life is long, and living a carefree life is meaningless. You're so busy every day that I barely get to see you." Sophia explained.

Sophia leaned on the desk with both hands, "So, I've decided to get a job. But working at my dad's company is boring, and the elders' companies won't let me do anything because they pity me. After thinking it over, I decided to come to you."

Aurora, looking every bit the CEO, sat back in her swivel chair and smiled, "Are you sure you're not trying to use connections by coming to me?"

"Aurora, I have a master's degree, after all," Sophia spoke. "I'm skilled in various talents."

"Your master's degree seems a bit dubious," Aurora joked. "I can't offer a high salary, but if you really interested, I do have a position that's perfect for you. Interested?"

"I don't care about the money; I just want to experience life," Sophia asked excitedly. "What job? I don't want to work in an office; it's too boring."

"Sales," Aurora said. "I opened a luxury store and need someone trustworthy to manage it. You just need to oversee it. With your years of experience buying luxury goods, it shouldn't be hard."

"Sounds easy enough. I'll do it," Sophia asked, "Aurora, why did you open a store yourself?"

"I can't manage such a big company. John's leg isn't healed, so I'm just holding down the fort until he can take over. I plan to create my own jewelry brand. For now, I'm testing the waters with a store. Once things settle down, I'll focus on my own shop."

Aurora never intended to rely on John forever. The best way for them to get along was for each to chase their own dreams and support each other.

Sophia was invigorated, like she had been injected with adrenaline, "Aurora, I'll work with you."

"Now tell me, why did you suddenly want to get a job?"

"It's because of Andrew. He called me useless, saying I only laze around at home."

It turned out Sophia was provoked.

Aurora poured her a glass of water, "Has Leo contacted you recently?"

"Don't mention him. He's an idiot. I don't know how Mr. Robinson, such a smart and capable man, could have such a dumb son."

Speaking of Leo, Sophia's tone was full of disdain.

Just then, Linda came in, "Ms. White, do you want to attend today's interview?"

Alexander's call came in. Aurora glanced at it and refused, "I won't go. You handle it."

Seeing Sophia there, Aurora asked, "Do you want to go with Linda to look around the company?"

"Sure, I have nothing else to do," Sophia pulled Linda along, "Linda, take me to the interview site. I want to see."

Linda smiled, "Sure, Ms. Garcia, this way, please."

"Aurora, let's have lunch together later," Sophia spoke as she left.

Many people were eager to join AJ Group.

This was the final round of interviews. There were ten candidates left, but only five positions, meaning half would be eliminated.

The ten candidates were waiting in the lounge, and Sophia looked through the glass from outside.

She found one of them very familiar. After thinking for a moment, she realized it was Paul, who had pursued Aurora in college.

Paul was quite the heartthrob back then. After all these years, he was still handsome.

Sophia didn't know that Paul had only regained some of his former looks after losing weight.

Sophia pulled Linda and pointed at Paul, "How is that guy?"

Linda looked and replied, "He's quite qualified. If he performs well, he should be fine. Do you know him, Ms. Garcia?"

"He's Aurora's classmate, of course, I know him."

Sophia just mentioned it casually, but Linda took note.

Paul was Aurora's classmate. Even if he didn't perform well, he should be given some consideration.

Aurora, unaware of the potential issue, answered Alexander's call, "What's up?"

Given their last unpleasant interaction, Aurora's tone wasn't friendly.

"I found a photo of your aunt. I'm at the White family villa now. I can confirm that your former stepmother is your aunt, my sister."

Aurora was shocked.

What she feared had come true.
