Chapter 201 She Has a Temper Too, You Know
Aurora totally ignored John, chatting away with Paul about the past and future like she didn't have a care in the world.
While they were talking, Paul was already planning their wedding, picking out the venue, the type of ceremony, and even which preschool their future kids would go to.
Aurora felt super awkward inside but kept a calm smile and said, "Paul, you're really thoughtful."
"A man should earn the money, and a woman just needs to look good. Aurora, marry me, and you won't regret it. You won't need to work; just do some housework and take care of the kids. I'll give you $2,000 a month for living expenses," Paul said, showing his old-school attitude.
"$2,000, huh." Aurora almost spat out her juice. "Is that how low a nanny's salary is these days?"
Paul's face darkened a bit. "How is it a nanny?"
"Sorry, with the standards you just mentioned, I really thought you were looking for a nanny."
John sat down at a nearby table, calm as ever. He could see Aurora was trying to get under his skin.
Paul continued, "Aurora, we're not young anymore, so there's no need for chasing too much romance. What do you think? I plan to have three kids after we get married, and we must have a son. But don't worry, if you can't handle taking care of the kids, I'll have my parents help you."
Aurora was completely floored by his words. She glanced at John, who was sipping his coffee with a slight smile on his face.
'He is mocking me!' Aurora thought, feeling instantly embarrassed. If she ended up with Paul, John would probably laugh at her poor judgment.
She had planned to use Paul to make John jealous, but it backfired.
Seeing Lori and Ava coming back from the dock, Aurora stood up with a smile. "Let's meet another day, Paul. I think you really need to work on your appearance."
"No need, men will eventually become fat," Paul said, still clueless that his image in Aurora's mind was shattered. He smiled. "I'm on vacation recently, so I'm free. Wherever you want to go, I can take you."
"Maybe another time. I drove today." Aurora paid the bill and walked out, heading to the Ferrari parked next to Paul's BMW. Under Paul's surprised gaze, she opened the car door and said, "Paul, see you."
A BMW couldn't compare to a Ferrari.
Aurora started the car just as Lori and Ava walked over. They got in, and the three beauties in a Ferrari were quite a sight.
Lori saw John in the café and whistled at him, while Aurora didn't even glance at John and drove away.
Paul stood dumbfounded at the café entrance, his face extremely red, feeling super embarrassed.
John paid his bill and left. His car was also parked next to the BMW, a top-of-the-line Rolls-Royce Phantom.
As John got into his car, he said to Paul, "Don't have any expectations about her."
Eyes widened, Paul still didn't snap back to reality.
Aurora got home. "I'm going to take a nap."
The goods had gone out, so she could finally relax a bit.
Lori laughed, "Aurora, it's still the middle of the day. Isn't it a bit early for a nap?"
"I'm pregnant and need rest," Aurora said as she changed her shoes and headed upstairs.
"Okay, by the way, Mr. Lewis came all the way here. Didn't you two talk?"
Aurora turned back. "Don't mention him. Talking about him makes me angry."
"Okay, okay," Lori said, rolling her eyes. "Never mess with a woman who's just broken up. Aurora, you rest well at home. Ava and I are going out."
Aurora didn't respond, but she heard every word.
Lori dragged Ava out of the house.
Ava asked, "Why are we leaving?"
"To give them some space," Lori said. "I lost ten million dollars, but my future brother-in-law promised me fifty million. I'm making a forty million dollar profit. How can I pass up such a good deal?"
Ava looked puzzled. "When did John promise you that?"
"Just now, we signaled each other at the dock. A flat rate of fifty million, with extra tips for help." Lori pouted. "I'm giving a family discount for Aurora's sake."
Ava paused, thinking. 'Wait a minute, did Lori just whistle at John? Can a whistle really say that much?'"You're selling out Aurora."
"How can you say that? I'm doing this for my unborn niece, with the best intentions."
Ava thought to herself, 'Yeah, with the best intentions to scam John out of fifty million dollars. Impressive...'
Aurora couldn't really sleep. She tossed and turned in bed, wishing she could take some sleeping pills. Unfortunately, she couldn't.
Aurora took off her eye mask, touched her belly, and started talking to her baby.
"Sweetie, I will never forgive him, never."
"He thinks that coming all this way will soften my heart. Absolutely not."
"We'll live our lives on our own. And your two brothers, once I completely clean up Wolfpack and make a lot of money, we'll enjoy life to the fullest every day."
"The world is so big, there's always someone better suited for us. Let him go."
After a series of self-affirmations, Aurora felt less anxious. She started to feel a bit sleepy and eventually fell asleep. Maybe it was because of the twins, Aurora felt especially tired. She slept for over three hours and woke up in the afternoon.
Aurora woke up hungry.
Upon opening her eyes, she smelled the rich aroma of grilled salmon and roasted chicken.
Aurora put on her shoes and went downstairs. "Lori, what's gotten into you today? Decided to improve our meals..."
Before she could finish, she saw a busy figure in the open kitchen. John was cooking there, wearing an apron with his sleeves rolled up.
Hearing the noise, John turned around and smiled warmly. "Aurora, you're awake. Have a seat; the food will be ready soon."
John's smile made Aurora's heart ripple like a small stone thrown into a calm lake.
Aurora sat down at the dining table. The atmosphere was serene, with only the sounds of John busy in the kitchen.
Finishing cooking, John brought the dishes to the table and placed them in front of Aurora. He even served a plate and set out a fork and knife. Very thoughtful.
Aurora glanced at the food on the table and then at John, who was smiling attentively.
"How much did you pay Lori to buy her off?" Aurora asked. At this point, she could naturally guess that John had bought Lori off.
"A little money, don't worry. I'll find a way to get it back from her later. I won't waste money."
If Lori were here, she must be depressed. These two were typical capitalists, always tricking her, an honest and innocent girl.
Aurora smirked. She was hungry and didn't put on airs. She picked up the utensils and started eating.
Seeing Aurora eat, John secretly breathed a sigh of relief. The first step in appeasing his wife was barely a success. But soon, it got awkward.
Aurora, full and satisfied, took out a hundred-dollar bill from her bag. "Here's the money for the meal."
Did he think he could buy her off with a little favor? Absolutely not!
