Chapter 338: Self-Rescue
Lori dug her ear impatiently and shot a cold glance over: "Loudmouth, I'm not dead. Who said I was playing dead?"
Lori stretched her limbs and then realized she was in Todd's arms. Her eyes widened, and she quickly scrambled up, snapping, "Todd, you're taking advantage of me again."
With that, Lori started hitting Todd.
Todd covered his head, "You shrew, why do you hit people without reason? You crawled into my arms yourself, and I couldn't push you away. You even made my leg go numb. Why are you hitting me?"
Regardless, Lori hit him first.
When it came to hitting Todd, Lori was quite adept.
Feeling better after venting, Lori stood up and flicked her long hair, "I feel much better now."
Todd, with a bruised and swollen face, was very depressed.
Todd silently got up and flipped Lori the bird, "You shrew, you're really vicious."
Lori dusted off her hands and pinched Todd's chin with a smile, "I remember you called me fat before and lying about your hands not being healed. This is the price for insulting and deceiving me. If you want to have a better time, be polite and courteous to me in the future. Otherwise, I'll hit you whenever I'm in a bad mood."
Something about this didn't sit right with Todd.
He felt there was more to her words but couldn't pinpoint what.
"I'm not going to argue with you," Todd muttered, touching his face, "Once we get out of here, I'll stay far away from you. You shrew, don't think you can find me. I'll go back to Nightfall Island. Let's see how you find me then."
As soon as he finished speaking, Todd realized what was wrong.
The problem was with the word "future."
Did he have a future with Lori?
Todd shivered; it was terrifying.
Just as he finished speaking, Lori's face zoomed in right in front of him.
Lori squatted in front of him, leaning in with a fake smile, "Looks like I didn't hit you hard enough earlier."
Lori raised her fist, and Todd quickly said, "Beautiful lady, I was just talking nonsense. If you hit me again, my face will really be ruined."
"This time, I won't hit your face," Lori said with a smile.
Her smile made Todd even more uneasy. Just as Lori was about to make a move, someone came in from outside.
Willie entered with two subordinates, standing under the iron cage.
The iron cage was suspended, making escape even more difficult.
Lori withdrew her hand and stared at Willie below, "Speak, why did you capture me and bring me here?"
Willie, smoking a cigar, smiled, revealing two rows of yellowing teeth, which was particularly disgusting.
Willie voiced, "Lori, we've asked you to cooperate several times, and you've always refused. This time, we had no choice but to bring you here this way. We want you to take on a job. It's simple. As long as you agree, we'll release you immediately."
"Okay, I agree." Lori agreed so readily, without even thinking.
Willie was stunned for a moment, "You agreed?"
Todd asked, "What do they want you to do?"
"I don't know." Lori replied.
Todd was speechless, "You don't know, and you agreed so quickly?"
"Let's get out first. I didn't think that far. Once I'm out, if I regret it, what can they do to me?" Lori glanced at him, "Unless you want to stay here, and I'll go out alone?"
Listening to their conversation, Willie was so angry he could almost burst.
Could they be any more arrogant?
Discussing how to escape right in front of him, did they have no respect?
Willie threatened, "Lori, I know you're rebellious. If you don't agree, I really can't do anything to you. But you'll never get out of here."
"Are you going to take care of me for life? That sounds like a good deal, but this place is a bit rough. How about giving me a cozy, pink room and finding a few young, strong men? You know what I mean!" Lori winked at Willie and smiled, "You're not bad either. If you treat me well, I might be in a good mood and do the job for you."
Willie, who had lived half his life, was actually being flirted with by a woman, and his face turned livid with anger. "You shameless woman, how can you be so low?"
Todd nodded repeatedly in agreement, "Yes, I agree. This woman has no morals. Flirting with such an old man, aren't you afraid of throwing up?"
Willie was stunned. Wasn't this an insult to him?
"Shut up," Lori glared coldly at Todd, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be locked up here."
Todd muttered, "Who told you to come back? You could have run away."
"If I ran, I'd be heartless and ungrateful. How could I survive in society then?" Lori didn't waste words with Todd and looked at Willie below the iron cage, "Are you letting us go or not? Be quick about it."
Willie really wanted to let them go, but it had been so hard to capture them. Lori was hard to control. If he let her go and she didn't do the job, it would all be for nothing.
Willie remembered how Lori had given up escaping because of Todd. With his hands behind his back, he smiled, "I can let you go. I'll give you three days. If you don't do the job, I'll kill him."
"Really?" Lori's eyes lit up, "Then hurry up and let me go. You can do whatever you want with this man."
Todd quickly chimed in, "Lori, didn't you just say you wanted to be loyal? How can you change your mind so quickly? They're after you. I'm just caught up in this. If you leave like this, won't your conscience hurt?"
"I don't have a conscience," Lori retorted, "Willie, what are you waiting for? Open the cage."
Willie was dumbfounded. "Aren't you two lovers?"
Lori and Todd denied in unison, "Who said we're lovers!"
Lori sneered, "I'm not blind to fall for him."
"My head wasn't slammed in a door to fall for her. No way!"
The two bickered, neither backing down.
Willie was confused, "I don't care if you're lovers or not. Lori, I'll give you one day to think about it. If you don't agree, I'll send you both to your deaths."
Todd sneered, "Willie, have you written your will yet?"
Willie, enraged and humiliated, sneered, "Mr. Smith, I know you're with Nightfall, but who knows you're in my hands? If you die without evidence, what can Mr. Lewis or anyone from Nightfall do to me?"
Todd understood, "So you've decided to go against Nightfall. Bold move."
"I thought Nightfall was so powerful, but look, they're not even afraid," Lori spoke, sitting down and leaning against the iron cage.
"I'll come back in a day," Willie said, "This is Starfall. Don't think you can leave. No one who comes here leaves on their own."
With that, Willie left. Only Lori and Todd were left again.
Lori looked at the lock on the iron cage and muttered to herself, "If only I had a needle."
All the gold needles on Lori had been confiscated, and the hook rope was gone too.
Hearing this, Todd touched his chest and asked, "Can you open it?"
"Of course, that's my job. It's just an iron cage. How hard can it be to open? I just don't have the tools."
"I have," Todd replied, pulling a needle from his shirt, "Try this."
"Isn't this my needle? How do you have it?" Lori was confused.
And it was kept so close to his heart.
