Chapter 12: John Disciplines Emily
Joe quickly said, "Nancy, let's just drop it. Aurora probably didn't mean it. Calling the police would ruin her and damage the company's image. Just fire her; we've got the bracelet back anyway."
Joe seemed to be helping, but Aurora sensed something else.
Joe was scared and avoided the issue.
What was he afraid of?
Nancy snorted, "I must verify it. I want to see how this woman tries to lie her way out."
Joe started sweating nervously as Nancy insisted on verifying.
Andy examined the bracelet closely. Emily eagerly asked, "Andy, what do you think?"
Nancy added, "The bracelet has the initials of Joe and me engraved inside."
Andy frowned, "I don't see any initials, and this bracelet is indeed..."
"Miss Wilson, your bracelet has been found."
At that moment, Lucy Brown from the secretarial department came over with an identical bracelet. "I found it in the restroom, under the sink. Miss Wilson, is this your bracelet?"
Nancy grabbed it and saw the initials inside. "This is my bracelet."
This proved that Aurora hadn't taken Nancy's bracelet.
"Andy, can I have my bracelet back?" Aurora asked politely.
Seeing that Aurora couldn't be proven as a thief, Emily was unwilling to let it go and sneered, "Aurora, if you're broke, don't let your boyfriend buy a fake bracelet and make a fool of you."
Nancy also scoffed, "If you hadn't been so vain and bought a high-quality fake, this wouldn't have happened. It's laughable. Aurora, your boyfriend isn't that great either."
Before Aurora could reply, Andy suddenly spoke up, "The bracelet Miss White is holding is the genuine one."
Andy's words shocked Emily and Nancy, and the room fell silent.
Aurora was also surprised.
'This is just a replica worth a few hundred dollars; how could it be real?' she thought.
The colleagues, especially the female ones, were all stunned.
Aurora must have an incredible boyfriend to be so generous.
"That's impossible," Emily shook off her reverie and returned to her senses, unable to control her emotions, her voice sharp. "Andy, look again. How could Aurora's be real?"
Nancy added, "There's only one 'Heart of the Goddess' in the world, and Joe bought it for my birthday. How could Aurora afford it?"
Andy frowned, "I'm Mr. Fields' assistant. I can tell at a glance if a bracelet is genuine. Moreover, the 'Heart of the Goddess' cannot be engraved."
Nancy immediately looked at Joe, who was now sweating profusely. "Nancy, I didn't know. I had someone buy it; I must have been scammed."
Joe had no idea that a random bracelet he bought would end up with the genuine article.
Nancy, humiliated, threw the bracelet at Joe's face. "So embarrassing."
All those sarcastic remarks about Aurora had backfired.
Nancy wished she could find a hole to crawl into and stormed out in anger.
"Nancy," Joe called after her.
Emily still couldn't believe that Aurora's bracelet was genuine.
That was the $120,000 "Heart of the Goddess" she had always wanted but couldn't get, despite pulling many strings.
How could it end up with Aurora?
Andy handed the bracelet back to Aurora. "Miss White, please take good care of it. The 'Heart of the Goddess' symbolizes eternal true love. It seems your boyfriend is very thoughtful. I wish you happiness."
"Thank you."
Aurora didn't believe it was genuine; she thought Andy just made a mistake in verifying it.
Emily, green with envy, snapped, "Aurora, how could your poor boyfriend afford it? Who really gave you this bracelet?"
She implied that Aurora had obtained it through unscrupulous means.
"Don't be so arrogant," Aurora retorted, not wanting to waste words with Emily. "Wasn't last night's lesson enough?"
Thinking about last night made Emily even angrier.
It was the most humiliating moment of Emily's life.
Aurora packed her things and left.
Emily stomped her foot in frustration. "Andy, are you still my friend? How could you side with someone else?"
Andy, seeing Emily's spoiled tantrum, said, "I'm just stating the facts."
Emily glared in the direction Aurora had left, her eyes filled with jealousy and hatred.
She would never let Aurora have it easy.
Aurora didn't rush back but went to a gift shop to buy a gift for John.
As she left the shop, she ran into Todd.
Todd was talking to a man by the roadside. Seeing Aurora, he smiled and walked over. "Miss White, what a coincidence."
Aurora smiled lightly, "Yes, what a coincidence, meeting again."
Todd noticed the gift in Aurora's hand. "Is that for John?"
"He gave me a bracelet this morning, so I'm returning the favor."
Just as Aurora finished speaking, she saw a familiar face and her expression turned sour.
A man in his fifties, accompanied by four bodyguards, approached. It was Uncle James, the butler of the White family.
"Miss White, Mr. White wants you to come home."
Uncle James spoke to Aurora without a hint of respect.
Aurora's face turned cold. "I'm not going back."
"Mr. White heard that you've been associating with some unsavory people and is very angry. It's best if you come back, or Mr. White might stop Mr. Walker's medication. You know the consequences."
Aurora could guess that Emily had been stirring trouble with Dean.
"He wouldn't dare."
Her father was using Jack Walker to threaten her.
After her mother passed away, Jack was the only family she had left in that house.
Uncle James snorted, "Miss White, don't make things difficult for us. The Ford family is also waiting."
"What do you mean?" asked Aurora.
"Mr. White has arranged a marriage for you with the second son of the Ford family."
The second son of the Ford family?
"Isn't he an idiot?" Todd spoke up, agitated. "What is Dean White thinking? Throwing Miss White into the fire. I'm here today; let's see who dares to take Miss White away."
Aurora was shocked that Dean had arranged such a marriage for her.
First, he wanted to marry her off to a cripple, and now to an idiot.
Aurora was both angry and heartbroken. "I won't marry. If anyone wants to, they can. I'm not going back."
"Don't blame me then," Uncle James sneered. "Take Miss White back."
Todd stood protectively in front of Aurora. "Let's see who dares."
Uncle James didn't recognize Todd and ordered his men to forcibly take Aurora.
Knowing Aurora had some martial arts skills, Uncle James had brought four bodyguards. Aurora's struggles were in vain.
Todd couldn't fight off all four men. Seeing Aurora being taken away, he quickly called, "Boss, there's trouble. Dean wants to marry Miss White to the idiot from the Ford family and has taken her back by force."
Aurora walked into the White family's house and saw the living room full of people.
Emily was there, accompanying the guests.
Nicole was chatting cheerfully with a well-dressed woman. Seeing Aurora, she warmly introduced her as if she were her own daughter. "This is my eldest daughter, Aurora. Isn't she beautiful?"
"Indeed," the woman nodded approvingly.
Emily chimed in, "Congratulations, sister. Dad has found you a great match. You and the second son of the Ford family are a perfect pair."
Aurora coldly retorted, "If you think it's so great, why don't you marry him?"
Dean came downstairs with Vincent Ford, both smiling.
Dean said, "It's settled then. The Ford family can set the wedding date; we have no objections."
"Great, I'll have someone pick a date as soon as I get back," said Vincent.
"I object. I'm not getting married," Aurora said, heartbroken and furious. "Who said I agreed to marry?"
Her biased father had called her back just to push her into danger again.
Without even asking for her opinion, he had arranged the marriage.
Dean glared at Aurora. "I'm your dad. Shouldn't you listen to me?"
"Since my mom died, you haven't cared about me. Now you have no right to control me. I decide who I marry."
Dean was furious. "Aurora, how dare you talk to me like that? I'm your father. I have every right to control you."
"Am I even your biological daughter?" Aurora was both angry and hurt. "I want a paternity test to see if I'm really your daughter. Even a tiger doesn't eat its cubs. What kind of father are you?"
"Shut up," Dean shouted, slapping her. "You will marry whether you want to or not."
The slap was loud, and Aurora's face immediately turned red.
Nicole and Emily were delighted, feeling very satisfied.
At that moment, Uncle James rushed in. "Master, madam, Mr. Lewis is here."
Everyone in the living room was stunned.
Dean and Vincent exchanged puzzled looks.
The Lewis family had already called off the engagement, so why was Mr. Lewis here?
And it was Mr. Lewis himself, which was even more confusing.
Rumor had it that Mr. Lewis rarely appeared in public after his face was scarred and his leg crippled.
But even if he was said to have only a few years to live, few dared to cross him.
Aurora was also surprised and curious about Mr. Lewis's visit.
Dean snapped at Aurora, "Go upstairs."
Dean was worried that Mr. Lewis was here for Aurora. He had just arranged the marriage with the Ford family and couldn't afford any more complications. If the company's cash flow was cut off, everything would be over.
He couldn't offend the Ford family.
And he couldn't afford to offend the Lewis family either.
A line of cars stopped in front of the White family's house, and dozens of bodyguards stepped out in unison, standing respectfully to the side, showcasing a grand display.
"The White family is quite lively today."
A calm voice filled with a chilling aura echoed.
Even before seeing him, Aurora felt the oppressive atmosphere, and the temperature seemed to drop.
Dean quickly went to greet him. "Mr. Lewis."
John sat in a wheelchair, wearing a scarred mask. It was a special mask, very thin, sticking to his face, making him look terrifyingly disfigured, hiding his true appearance.
Sam pushed John in. Today, Sam wasn't wearing a mask, so Aurora couldn't connect him with the people from the Nightfall Syndicate.
"Ah!" Emily screamed, hiding behind Nicole, too scared to look at John's face. "So scary."
A deathly silence filled the hall.
"Hmm?" John's eyes turned cold as he glanced at Emily.
Dean, terrified by Emily's words, trembled. "Mr. Lewis, my daughter is ignorant. Please forgive her. It's my fault for not teaching her well."
This was the head of the Lewis family. How dare she say he was scary?
John's voice was icy. "Mr. White, since you can't teach her, let my people do it."
