Chapter 122 The Competition Among the Ladies
Aurora didn't get any heads-up in the parents' group. If something had gone down, she'd be mad enough to flip the kindergarten upside down.
The back mountain was just a quick ten-minute walk away.
It was a chill spot with a bunch of outdoor play stuff, supposedly paid for by one of the kids' moms.
Ashley had picked a bougie kindergarten for Loren, and all the kids there came from loaded families.
Aurora grabbed Sam and Tyler and headed straight to the back mountain. Toby sensed something was off and drove there himself.
Tons of kids were running around on the back mountain, with plenty of parents hanging out.
The parents were chilling in the pavilion, all decked out, carrying Hermès bags.
The cheapest bag was like over twenty grand.
Everyone seemed all friendly and lively, but they were really just flexing and showing off.
Aurora quickly spotted Ms. Griffin. Before she could get to her, Toby called out, "Ms. Griffin, come over here."
Ms. Griffin, a 35-year-old single woman with a high ponytail and a pink plaid dress, looked surprised and jogged over. "Mr. Butler, why are you here? Is something wrong?"
She glanced at Aurora and the two guys behind her, looking uneasy.
Toby said, "This is Loren's guardian, here to pick him up. Ms. Griffin, please bring Loren here."
Ms. Griffin's face changed, and she stammered, "Oh, Loren's guardian, hello. It's not dismissal time yet. Why are you here so early?"
Aurora looked around but didn't see Loren, getting more anxious.
Without showing it, Aurora asked, "Ms. Griffin, why didn't I get any notification about this outdoor activity?"
"I did notify the group. Didn't you get it?" Ms. Griffin said, surprised.
Aurora didn't waste time and said, "I need to take Loren now. Please bring him here."
Ms. Griffin forced a smile and said, "Okay, I'll go get him."
She pretended to look around, asking a kid if they'd seen Loren.
Then she came back and said with a smile, "Loren might be playing over there. Please wait here, and I'll go find him."
"No need," Aurora said coldly, "Sam, Tyler, go look for him."
"Yes," Sam and Tyler responded and went off.
Ms. Griffin's face changed, and she said in a panic, "I'll go. You don't know the back mountain well; I do."
Just then, Loren's cries came from the side of the slope.
Aurora shot a cold glance at Ms. Griffin and ran towards the crying.
Seeing Loren tied to a tree, Aurora was furious.
"Aurora," Loren cried even harder when he saw Aurora.
"Loren," Aurora's heart ached as she quickly untied him.
Toby, Ms. Griffin, and other parents also came over.
Seeing Loren tied to a tree, Toby was stunned.
Since the school's founding, nothing like this had ever happened.
A student tied to a tree like an animal—if word got out, it would be a disaster.
After untying the rope, Loren threw himself into Aurora's arms, crying, "Aurora, they bullied me, tied me here, and called me an orphan."
Aurora's gaze turned icy as she looked at Ms. Griffin.
Ms. Griffin's legs were shaking, and she stammered, "I didn't know. It must be the kids messing around. Kids naturally love pranks."
"Ms. Griffin, do you think I'm an idiot? The pavilion is only fifty yards away. Loren was tied up here, and you didn't know?" Aurora demanded, "You need to explain this."
Ms. Griffin was speechless; she had no excuse.
Toby stepped in. "Ms. White, please calm down. Kids playing around is normal, but this was way out of line. I will definitely punish Ms. Griffin."
Then, Toby pretended to sternly scold Ms. Griffin, "Ms. Griffin, what were you thinking? How could you make such a big mistake? Apologize to Ms. White immediately."
"Ms. White, I'm sorry. It was my negligence that led to this," Ms. Griffin apologized, trying to sound sincere. "There were too many kids during the outdoor activity, and it was hard to keep track of everyone. I hope you can understand the difficulties of being a teacher."
Such a smooth talker.
Aurora watched them put on a show, trying to downplay the incident, and grew even angrier.
Aurora shouted, "Who tied Loren to the tree? Step forward."
No one dared to step forward, and the kids all backed away, scared.
Loren pointed at Ms. Griffin, sobbing, "Aurora, it was Ms. Griffin who tied me to the tree with the other kids. They called me an orphan."
Loren's accusation made Ms. Griffin panic. "Loren, you misunderstood. How could I tie you up? I was just playing a game with you. Everyone plays like this. You can't say such things, or no one will play with you."
A game? What a convenient excuse.
"Ms. Griffin likes games so much? Fine, I'll play with you," Aurora said with a cold smile. "Sam, Tyler, tie her to the tree."
An eye for an eye.
Sam and Tyler immediately stepped forward, grabbed her, and quickly tied her to the tree.
They didn't care about showing mercy, especially not to someone who would harm a child.
Seeing Aurora was serious, Ms. Griffin panicked. "Ms. White, this is illegal. Do you want Loren to stay in this kindergarten or not? How dare you do this to me?"
"Why wouldn't I dare?" Aurora sneered, then looked at the parents watching the scene and asked Loren, "Loren, tell me, who else?"
With Aurora backing him up, Loren wasn't afraid anymore. He sniffled and pointed to the kids involved. "There's him, and him, and that chubby one."
Loren pointed out five kids in total.
The kids were scared and hid behind their parents, trembling.
One parent stepped forward, mocking, "Isn't this Ms. White? Do you really think you're all that because you're the goddaughter of the Robinson family? How dare!"
Seeing someone stand up, other parents also spoke up.
"This is a prestigious kindergarten. The kids here all come from extraordinary families. This is Mrs. Morris, whose family is in the beauty business. And this is Mrs. Morgan, whose family has a noble lineage."
"Oh, so this is Ms. White. Do you really think you're a big shot?"
"Why are you so protective of this child? Who is he to you? Could he be your illegitimate child?"
