Chapter 267 Lori Confessed to Todd

As soon as John heard it wasn't daughters, he deflated like a popped balloon. "Doctor, can you double check and make sure?" His eyes were wide open, almost pleadingly looking at the machine. "It looks like girls to me."

The doctor sighed and adjusted the ultrasound, making the image clearer. "Mr. Lewis, see here? It's definitely two boys. Congrats."

The proof was right there; their features were clear. John's shoulders slumped as reality hit him—no more hope.

What they thought would be daughters turned out to be sons, making it four boys in total. Aurora had always dreamed of having a daughter, picturing a balanced family with both boys and girls. Still, if it were two more sons, she knew she'd love them with all her heart. How could she not adore her own kids?

John, on the other hand, looked like he'd been struck by lightning. His dream of having a daughter was completely shattered. "Four sons," he muttered, trying to wrap his head around the new family dynamic.

After the check-up, they left the exam room. Aurora looked at the ultrasound sheet and muttered, "I can't make it out. It's just a dark blob. John, can you see anything?"

"No," John grumbled, turning his head away in frustration.

Aurora chuckled. "What's with you? Two sons aren't good enough for you?"

"I want a daughter," John admitted. Taking Aurora's arm, he softened his tone and added, "Aurora, let's try for a daughter next time."

Aurora shot him a cold look. "Seriously? I haven't even given birth yet, and you're already talking about the next one. Do you think I'm some kind of baby factory?"

John asked, "Don't you want a daughter?"

She sighed, exasperated. "Look, I've come to terms with it. Your family is just not destined to have daughters. John, face the fact of having four sons. Now get ready to work hard and make money to support your family." Rolling her eyes, she added, "It's your sperm, you can't blame me."

John touched Aurora's belly and sighed resignedly. "Alright, sons it is, then."

Though he said that, John couldn’t hide his disappointment, like a deflated balloon, lacking energy in everything he did.

John's suggestion of having a third child was a joke. After this one, he didn't want Aurora to go through another pregnancy just for the faint hope of having a daughter.

'It is fine without having a daughter,' he thought.

The two returned to the Meadowbrook villa and coincidentally ran into Lori and Ava coming out of the training room. They were very disciplined and never slacked off. With John's complete set of training equipment, they liked to spend time in the training room.

"John, why the long face?" Lori asked casually while munching on an apple. "Isn't today the big day when Summer and Loren return to the family? What's with the gloomy face?"

John stubbornly said, "You're mistaken. I'm very happy."

Aurora couldn't help but laugh. "We just went to the hospital for a check-up. John is overjoyed."

"God, are they really girls?" Lori exclaimed and suddenly found the apple in her hand tasteless.

John quickly plastered on a smile, grinning from ear to ear. "Yes, two girls. We even picked out names on the way back. Aurora, you’ve been amazing through all of this."

Aurora instantly caught on to John's game. He was trying to weasel out of the bet.

Sure enough, John turned to Lori with a half-smile. "Lori, I heard you made a bet with Aurora. A bet is a bet. We're waiting for you to confess to Todd."

Lori also wanted to weasel out of the bet. The thought of confessing to Todd was more daunting than staying single forever.

"I don't believe you," she said, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. "You two are too sneaky. Let me see the check-up sheet."

Ava, who had been silently observing, felt a wave of relief. Lori had eventually become smarter than before.

"Here, take a look. So you don't say we're faking it," John spoke as he generously handed the check-up sheet to Lori.

Aurora was a bit taken aback. If Lori looked at it, wouldn't the truth come out?

John gave Aurora a reassuring look. He was confident Lori wouldn't understand it. The check-up sheet wouldn't specify the gender. Without professional knowledge, even a 4D scan would be hard to decipher. To an outsider, it was just a dark blob. They might not even be able to tell where the baby was.

Seeing John's straightforwardness, Lori almost believed it. She took the check-up sheet but couldn't make heads or tails of it, so she just pretended to study it.

John raised an eyebrow, "See? It's obvious. Two girls. A bet is a bet."

Lori couldn't make out anything. John only let her look for a few seconds before taking the sheet back.

"Do I look like someone who backs out? Given the fact that the person isn't here, who am I supposed to confess to, thin air? Maybe next time" she said, trying to weasel out of the bet.

Just then, Todd's voice echoed from outside. "Mr. Lewis, Mrs. Lewis." Dressed in a sleek white suit, Todd looked effortlessly handsome. "I heard someone is going to confess? To whom?" he asked with a playful grin.

After a night, Todd's eyes were no longer swollen, thanks to Gary's medicine. Otherwise, he wouldn't dare to go out with swollen eyes.

Todd's appearance was perfect timing for Aurora and John. They exchanged a smile, and Aurora winked at Lori. "Lori, we're all rooting for you."

Lori groaned inwardly, covering her face. 'Damn it! Why does Todd have to walk in now of all times?' she thought to herself.

Todd, noticing Lori's cold glare, was genuinely puzzled. "You're going to confess? I wonder who the unlucky person is," he teased, his eyes brimming with curiosity.

His words sparked a fire in Lori. Spurred by irritation, she decided to go for it. She gave a sly smile and said, "You'll soon know who the unlucky person is."

Lori took a determined bite of her apple, wiped her mouth with exaggerated flair, and sauntered over to Todd.

Todd sensed things weren't going well. "Lori, what are you doing? Don't come closer. We're even," he said, holding up his hands defensively.

"Our grudges might be settled, but our feelings aren't!" Lori shot back, boldly grabbing Todd's tie and yanking him down to her level. With one leg propped on a chair, she struck a pose that could only be described as fierce. "Todd, listen to me. I... I like you."

Confessing was no easy feat for Lori.

As her words fell, the entire room fell silent. Sam and Tyler, who had just entered, finally understood why Lori had been constantly hounding Todd. It wasn't a grudge; it was a crush.

Todd's shock was evident, but the words "I like you" were like a pebble dropped into a still pond, sending ripples through his heart that had been calm for over thirty years.

Aurora and John stood in awe of Lori's audacity. She had Todd, the tall and aloof Todd, looking positively submissive under her fearless grip.

Ava, from the sidelines, gave Lori a discreet thumbs-up. Impressive indeed.

Todd stammered before finally finding his voice. "What's gotten into you today?"

'I can't believe it—Lori actually confessed her feelings to me just now,' he thought.

Todd's words broke the serious atmosphere. While he didn't reject her outright, he didn't accept either.

Lori released him, smirking. "Believe it or not. Ava, I'm starving. Let's go grab some pasta."

And with that, she turned on her heel and walked out with Ava. The moment she hit the door, her façade crumbled, and she bolted like her life depended on it.
