Chapter 69 Summer Teaches John a Lesson
Summer's complaints made Todd's mouth twitch.
"Hey, you're still young. You don't understand how love works between adults. When you grow up and meet someone you're willing to risk your life to protect, you'll understand," Todd said, still shocked that John had almost lost his life for Aurora.
A man who valued someone else more than his own life.
Was that a blessing or a curse?
John was lying there now, and as a friend, the best Todd could do was exaggerate John's condition, hoping it might bring the two back together.
Summer indeed didn't understand these things yet.
Gary rolled his eyes at Todd. "Don't corrupt Summer. I'm counting on him to inherit my medical skills. Falling in love at a young age will only cause trouble."
Gary had finally found someone with such high potential in medicine and was determined to train Summer as his successor. Naturally, he couldn't let Todd corrupt him.
"Gary, you're being too selfish. You can't let Summer be lonely for life just so he can be your successor," Todd said, pulling Summer over. "Summer, don't listen to him."
Summer shook his head and said in a mature tone, "I'm only four and a half. Is it appropriate to talk to me about finding a girlfriend?"
Todd laughed awkwardly and looked at Gary. "Is it appropriate?"
Gary snorted and walked away with a stern expression.
Todd laughed to himself. "I guess it's really not appropriate. I should check on John."
Summer was now a member of Nightfall. Because of his immense potential, both Gary and Randy intended to train him as a successor.
However, in Summer's heart, John was the leader of Nightfall and the only person he admired and wanted to surpass.
A few hours later, John woke up.
The first person he saw when he opened his eyes was Summer.
Summer's small figure was bustling around in the room. Seeing that John was awake, he poured a glass of water and handed it to him. "Mr. Collins said you should drink some water as soon as you wake up."
Although Summer acted very mature, like a little adult, he was still a child. When Summer handed over the water with his small hands, John felt an indescribable warmth in his heart.
John drank the water, but his lips were still chapped. Summer used a cotton swab to moisten his lips.
"It seems you've adapted well here," John said, looking at Summer. "I've already sent someone to find your parents."
John had promised to help find them before, but Summer didn't expect him to actually do it.
Summer glanced at John and put down the cotton swab. "Thank you, Mr. Lewis."
John asked, "Does that make you happy?"
Summer's reaction was very calm.
Summer looked at John and said, "Since I was born, I've never seen my parents. Without a family, there's no happiness, but neither is there unhappiness."
Hearing such mature words from such a young child made John's heart ache.
A feeling of tenderness surged from his heart, making John want to hug Summer.
In the end, John just patted Summer on the head. "From now on, this is your home, and I am your family."
Summer smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Lewis."
John smiled. "Summer, go find Todd."
"You want to ask about Miss White, right? She's fine," Summer said, seeing right through John. He sat on a chair and sighed. "Mr. Lewis, there are so many women in the world. Why do you only like that one?"
John felt a bit helpless.
Teaching a child to be too smart always ended up backfiring, especially when they started to nag at you with such philosophical words.
"You're still young."
Summer pouted, an action that looked just like Loren's. The sight made John think of the other boy..
Loren was even more cunning than a fox.
Summer was more mature and steady, but he still had a child's sense of innocence.
Thinking of Loren, John felt that he was also a promising talent. With proper training, he could definitely become an excellent diplomat.
Nightfall needed someone like that.
That kid was clever, but unfortunately, Aurora had adopted him, so John couldn't bring him to Nightfall.
Summer stood up and shrugged. "I have to go train. Mr.Lewis, good luck."
John felt helpless again.
That tone of disdain was really annoying.
When Todd heard that John was awake, he rushed over.
"Boss, you're finally awake. I thought I'd never see you again," Todd said, his expression exaggerated and emotional.
"I won't die," John said, looking annoyed, "Besides, it was your lousy idea."
"Boss, you can't blame me. Who knew there'd be a car accident?" Todd muttered.
John recalled the situation. Aurora was driving the company's car, which was regularly checked and well-maintained. How could the brakes fail?
"Check the car's brakes," John said.
Todd's expression became serious. He asked, "Boss, do you suspect it wasn't an accident?"
"We'll know once we check the brakes," John said. It was just a hunch, after all.
But if it was intentional, and someone was targeting Aurora, he couldn't let it slide.
"Okay," Todd said, "By the way, Boss, your mom and Grandpa Lewis called. They want to visit."
"Tell them not to. Rex and his son will get suspicious."
Todd went on, "I've had people watching them. They're indeed putting out their feelers, but they haven't made any big moves."
John said meaningfully, "I think it's about time."
"Boss, you want to close the net around them?" Todd thought of something and said, "Boss, I think you should first think about how to deal with Miss White. She probably guessed your identity."
John's condition had beencritical. Grandpa Lewis and Helen were worried and went to pick him up. With such a big scene at the hospital entrance, Aurora must have guessed.
"Don't worry about it," John said lightly, but he was a bit afraid to face Aurora.
Summer was at target practice in the training room when Randy walked in.
"Summer, come take a break," Randy called.
Summer just glanced at him and continued shooting. After he ran out of bullets, he walked over.
"What's up, Randy?"
Summer's forehead was covered in sweat. When he first came to the island, he was as thin as a monkey. After a few months of training, he had gained some weight and become much stronger.
Randy asked, "Didn't you say you wanted to find your brother? Why not talk to Boss Lewis about it this time?"
"There's no need for that," Summer said. He wanted to find his brother, but he didn't want him to come to the island. "I'll search forhim on my own."
The training environment on the island was tough. It was enough for Summer to endure the harsh conditions alone. When he grew up and became stronger, he could protect his brother.
If he found his brother now, Randy would definitely bring him to the island.
That was indeed Randy's plan.
Summer was so smart, and his brother, born from the same mother, would likely not be much different.
With a shortage of talent on the island, Randy wanted to scout more gifted children.
