Chapter 24 The Meeting
Emily's words deeply stirred Dean's heart.
Dean began to waver; he didn't want the company he had worked hard for most of his life to collapse just like that.
Nicole urged again, "Dean, it's almost dawn. If you don't make a decision now, it will be too late."
Dean hesitated and said, "I'll find a lawyer to sever ties with Aurora before dawn. You stay home and behave; I'm going out for a bit."
'Aurora first offended the Lewis family, then the Robinson family. Sooner or later, the White family would be ruined by Aurora.'
Dean thought of John's warning last time. He couldn't decide on Aurora's marriage, maybe because she had offended the Lewis family. That was why John had said such things, and he might come after Aurora sooner or later.
Thinking about it, Dean wanted to sever ties with Aurora as soon as possible to avoid being implicated.
As soon as Dean left, Nicole grabbed Emily's hand and cried, "Emily, if you had come any later, I would have been beaten to death."
"Mom," Emily comforted her, "How could you be so careless and get tricked by Aurora?"
"That wretched girl, I won't let her get away with this today." Nicole's eyes were full of venom. Her exaggerated speech pulled at the wounds on her face, making her grimace in pain, deepening her hatred.
Nicole quickly sat down on the couch and said, "Emily, luckily you were quick-witted just now. I'm very pleased; you've matured a lot."
Nicole was somewhat surprised by Emily's change; she managed to get Dean to agree to sever ties with Aurora in just a few words.
A trace of jealousy flashed in Emily's eyes, "Daniel still has feelings for Aurora. I won't let Aurora have it easy."
The next day, Aurora woke up.
Aurora stretched and smelled the aroma coming from the kitchen, feeling instantly hungry.
Aurora put on her slippers and walked to the kitchen. John had already prepared a loving breakfast, including ham, eggs, sandwiches, and milk.
"You're awake. Go wash your hands; breakfast is ready," John said with a smile as he brought the breakfast to the table.
If the Lewis family knew that their head was making breakfast for his girlfriend in a room less than 300 square feet, they would be shocked.
Looking at the steaming breakfast, Aurora felt very happy inside.
But a sense of inferiority also welled up.
John was so good to her now, but what if he found out she had lied to him?
What if he knew she had a child?
"Okay." Aurora smiled, hiding her emotions.
John reminded her, "You're going to be late for work."
"Oh, right." Aurora looked at the time and quickly went to wash up and change clothes. She hid behind the screen divider and said, "No peeking."
John couldn't help but laugh. What part of Aurora hadn't he seen?
After changing clothes, Aurora sat down to eat breakfast. John suddenly said, "Aurora, let's move to a bigger place."
This place was cozy but too small. He didn't want Aurora to be cramped in this tiny apartment.
Talking about moving, Aurora felt a bit conflicted, "The cost of living in Silvercrest City is so high now. The rent is too expensive. If we move, it wouldn't be worth it. Besides, the transportation here is very convenient, and it's spacious for one person."
Aurora was very frugal with her life.
She would stretch every penny to its limit.
Jack's illness also made Aurora cautious. She wanted to earn more money, so Jack wouldn't have to rely on the White family.
'One person.'
'Aurora didn't plan to let me move in.'
"I have money..." John started to persuade but was interrupted by Aurora.
"Even if you have money, you shouldn't waste it. You work so hard delivering goods," Aurora said, "By the way, you took your car to get fixed. As we agreed last night, you'll stay here for the next few days. Just rest! Don't go anywhere. Got it?"
'Was mygirlfriend worried about me working too hard?'
John smiled and said, "Okay, I'll do as you say."
Aurora hurriedly finished her breakfast. "I have to go to work now. Be good and wait for me at home."
"Okay."
John always showered Aurora with endless affection.
As soon as Aurora stepped out, she received a call from Sophia. "Aurora, have you seen the news? Your dad has severed ties with you."
Sophia had left early last night and didn't know what happened afterward. She just found out now.
Aurora checked the news online and foundDean indeed had announced through a lawyer that he had severed ties with her.
She was no longer a daughter of the White family.
Dean was clearly afraid of being associated with her, so he only announced it online without posting a single photo.
Aurora, the eldest daughter of the White family, never even had the chance to appear publicly as Dean's daughter.
Few people knew who the eldest daughter of the White family was, but now everyone knew she had been disowned.
After all, Dean was her father. If Aurora said she wasn't hurt at all by being completely abandoned, it would be a lie.
Aurora understood that Dean was afraid of offending the Robinson family, which was why he severed ties.
Other fathers would protect their daughters when they were bullied, but her father was heartless and selfish, directly kicking her out.
The news of Dean severing ties with Aurora caused quite a stir online.
John naturally saw the news, too.
His eyes immediately turned cold, and he felt a pang of heartache for Aurora.
While Aurora was away, John returned to the Lewis family's old mansion.
He put on a scar mask and sat in a wheelchair, looking sickly.
The old mansion of the Lewis family was full of spies. To deceive those ambitious people, he couldn't let his guard down for a moment.
Todd had arrived early. "Boss, did you see the news online? Honestly, it's the first time I've seen such a cowardly and ruthless father. I wonder if Dean would regret his decision if he knew his daughter was favored by you."
"He's an insignificant person. He abandoned Aurora, so he has nothing to do with her anymore," John said indifferently, "It saves us trouble."
Todd agreed, "You're right. What use is a heartless and selfish father?"
Just then, a noblewoman came over joyfully. "John, I heard that you have a girlfriend. When will you bring her home to meet me?"
The person coming over was none other than John's mother, Helen Lewis.
Upon hearing that John had a girl he liked, Helen couldn't be more happier.
John had already "lost" three wives, and he had a reputation for bringing bad luck to his spouses. Coupled with his disfigured face and crippled leg and the rumor that he didn't have many years left to live, no girl in Silvercrest City dared to marry into the Lewis family.
As a mother, Helen knew John had big plans, faking his disfigurement and crippled leg, but that shouldn't delay his marriage and giving her a grandchild.
If it weren't for John's strong will, he would have died in that car accident years ago.
The Lewis family was a large clan with hundreds of members, many of whom were eyeing the position of the family head.
It wasn't an easy position to hold.
John shot a cold glance at Todd, who immediately said, "Boss, it's not my fault. Your uncle saw you standing up for Miss White last night."
"John, having a girlfriend is a great thing. Why keep it from me?" Helen smiled. "I heard she's from the White family? When will you bring her home to meet me?"
"No time," John frowned.
"If you don't bring her, I'll go see her myself," Helen said excitedly. "Don't worry. I won't mess things up. I'll just take a look."
John knew Helen's personality. If he really stopped her, she might cause a scene.
John's tone was cold, "Don't scare her."
"You silly boy, I don't look scary. I'm just going to see your wife-to-be," Helen laughed. "I'll be off then."
Helen came and left in a whirlwind.
Todd worriedly asked, "Boss, are you really letting your mom go see Miss White? What if she messes things up?"
"My mom knows her limits," John smiled. "Aurora has to meet Helen eventually."
After seeing the news online, Aurora took half a day off to go back the White Villa to visit the White family.
Standing at the entrance of the White Villa, Aurora felt that the place where she was born and raised had become unfamiliar. It was no longer her home.
The servant opened the door and, seeing Aurora, was momentarily stunned before shouting inside, "Mr. and Mrs. White, Ms. Aurora White is back."
"Ms. Aurora White has already severed ties with the White family. There's no Ms. Aurora White in the White family anymore," Nicole's sharp voice came from inside as she walked out.
Seeing Aurora, Nicole was filled with hatred. Her injuries were all due to Aurora.
She was too embarrassed to go out now, with her face bruised and swollen, hiding at home.
After a night, Nicole's bruises were even worse, surprising Aurora.
Aurora knew Dean wouldn't let Nicole off easily, but she didn't expect him to be so ruthless.
Aurora steadied herself and smiled. "Aunt Clark, I almost didn't recognize you. Does your face still hurt?"
"Aurora," Nicole gritted her teeth, glaring at Aurora. "You wretched girl, don't get too cocky. Your dad has already severed ties with you. You're no longer part of the White family. Get out."
"I'm here to get my things. I'll leave once I'm done," Aurora said coldly, "I don't want to step into this house again."
"What things? There's nothing of yours left in this house," Nicole sneered. "You've eaten and used the White family's resources. It's already good enough that we don't ask you to return everything. Don't even think about the White family's assets."
At that moment, a male voice came from behind.
"The one eyeing the White family's assets are you."
Hearing this, Aurora turned around and saw Jack. She quickly went to support him, surprised. "Jack, why are you here? You should be resting in the hospital."
"If I didn't come, you'd be bullied to death by this wicked old witch," Jack, though thin, had sharp eyes like a wolf cub. "Old witch, do you dare to say another word about Aurora?"
Nicole was somewhat intimidated by Jack, especially by the fierce look in his eyes, which weakened her arrogance.
"Mom, let them in."
Emily walked out with a smile, looking like she was enjoying the show. "Aurora, Dad wants to see you in the study. After offending the Robinson family, I'm waiting to see how miserable your end will be."
"Aurora will live better than you," Jack retorted.
Emily sneered and said, "Just talking big. If the White family doesn't pay, you'd have died in the hospital."
"Jack, don't waste words with these people," Aurora said coldly, "Wait for me here. I'll be right down."
"Okay, Aurora. Go ahead. If anything happens, just call me. Let's see if Dean dares to do anything to you."
It felt good to have someone to rely on.
Aurora felt a warm current in her heart.
Aurora went upstairs. Dean was in the study. When he saw Aurora come in, his face was cold, without a trace of affection. "What are you doing here? Leave quickly. Don't drag the White family into this. This is your own mess. Don't blame me."
"Dad. No. You're no longer my father. It's not appropriate to call you that anymore," Aurora sneered. "Mr. White."
The term "Mr. White" was full of sarcasm, and a trace of guilt flashed in Dean's eyes.
"This is a check for $100,000. Take it as my final compensation to you," Dean said, taking out the prepared check.
Looking at the check, Aurora felt even more cold and sarcastic. "No need. Mr. White, keep it for yourself. I'm not here for money. Since you've severed our father-daughter relationship, please return my passport. From now on, I have nothing to do with the White family."
That was Aurora's purpose.
If the passport issue wasn't resolved, there would be trouble in the future.
Dean didn't expect Aurora to come for the passport. Seeing her being more heartless and cold than him, he snorted and put the check away. "I'll have someone deliver your passport."
"Thank you, Mr. White," Aurora said indifferently, "There are some of my mother's belongings in the house. I want to take them."
Her mother's belongings were very important.
