Chapter 116 John's Ex-Wife is Pregnant
Summer was thrilled but had to act cool. "Alright, thanks, Aunt Aurora."
Aurora laughed, having caught the excitement in Summer's eyes.
'Kids these days are good at hiding their feelings,' Aurora thought.
"Let's go!" Aurora reached for Summer's hand, and this time, she didn't pull away.
Just then, Todd came out of the restroom. "Summer, didn't I tell you to wait? Where are you going? Oh, Ms. White, fancy seeing you here at the amusement park."
Todd was surprised to see Aurora.
"I brought Loren here," Aurora said. "I was just about to take Summer to join us."
Hearing "Loren," Summer's eyes flickered, but she shrugged it off. Loren was a common name.
"The boss asked me to take Summer out. I couldn't think of anywhere, so I brought him here. If you can take him, that'd be great, Ms. White," Todd said, scratching his nose. "It's a bit awkward for a grown man like me at an amusement park; those rides are too kiddish."
Summer teased, "You seemed to be having fun earlier, godfather."
Todd shot Aurora a look to stop embarrassing him.
Aurora laughed. "Alright, I'll take Summer."
Just as they were about to leave, Todd's phone rang. It was Lucas.
Aurora was about to walk away when Todd suddenly raised his voice. "What? The boss's ex-wife is back? Wasn't she sent away? How did she come back? What, she heard the boss is dying and came back for the inheritance?"
The word "ex-wife" made Aurora stop and look at Todd.
Realizing Aurora had heard, Todd quickly said into the phone, "I'll be right back," and hung up.
Todd looked at Aurora, unsure what to say.
What a mess, an ex-wife showing up out of nowhere.
Aurora's expression was calm as she asked, "Which ex-wife of John? Didn't he say they were all dead?"
Todd chuckled awkwardly. "Ms. White, you're so funny."
"Don't change the subject," Aurora said coldly, giving Todd a stern look.
Todd knew he couldn't hide it and confessed, "The boss's third wife, Jane Torres, is back. Actually, none of the boss's previous three wives are dead; he just sent them away secretly."
"Then why did John tell me they were all dead and that it was related to Wade?"
"Probably to scare you," Todd said with an awkward smile. "We thought they took the money and went abroad, never to return. But unexpectedly, Jane came back."
Aurora didn't know much about John's previous wives.
"Let's go," Aurora said.
Todd was confused. "Where to?"
Aurora smiled. "To the Lewis estate, to see John's ex-wife."
Todd found her smile a bit creepy. It sent chills down his spine.
Todd suggested, "Ms. White, maybe you shouldn't go. How about you take Summer around a bit more?"
Summer chimed in, "I want to go back and see Boss Lewis too."
Aurora, holding Summer's hand, headed towards the exit. Seeing Todd standing still, she urged, "Aren't you coming?"
"I'll get the car," Todd said, hurrying to the parking lot, actually to inform John.
An encounter between the ex and the current wife could be trouble.
Aurora didn't bother with Todd. She took Summer to meet up with Sophia and Loren to say goodbye.
When Aurora reached the rest area, she couldn't find Loren anywhere. She called Sophia. "Where are you? I don't see you."
Sophia's side was noisy. "Loren insisted on the giant swing. I took him over, and he's already on it."
Aurora glanced towards the giant swing, but it was too far and crowded to see clearly.
"Sophia, you take Loren back later. I'm heading to the Lewis estate."
"Got it, don't worry about Loren. I have to go, it's starting," Sophia said excitedly.
After hanging up, Aurora took one last look at the giant swing and said to Summer, "Let's go."
Summer nodded, "Okay."
Todd pulled the car up to the entrance, and Aurora got in with Summer.
Todd said seriously, "Ms. White, you need to be prepared."
Seeing Todd so serious, Aurora frowned. "Is there something else?"
"You'll find out when we get there," Todd replied, not wanting to elaborate.
Aurora was curious. "How long were Jane and John married?"
"A month," Todd said, starting the car. "After the boss had an accident, Grandpa Lewis wanted him to settle down. The Lewis family branches were eager to plant spies around the boss. They arranged three wives for him one after another, and you were the fourth."
Aurora continued, "Who introduced Jane to John?"
"It was Grandpa Lewis," Todd said. "Jane's family is ordinary but clean. Both her parents are teachers, which is why Grandpa Lewis chose her. Four months ago, the boss sent Jane abroad with some money. Later, Grandpa Lewis arranged for you to marry into the Lewis family. You know the rest."
Jane's return was too timely, making it hard not to suspect her true intentions.
Aurora pondered for a moment. "Are Rex and his son also at the Lewis estate?"
"Yes," Todd paused and added, "Not just Rex and his son, but other branches are here too."
Aurora understood; it seemed someone in the Lewis family was plotting something. To alarm the entire Lewis family, Jane must have possessed some skills.
An hour later, the car slowly pulled into the Lewis estate. Before getting out, Aurora saw dozens of luxury cars parked at the entrance; quite a few people had come.
James, leading a dozen servants, hurriedly walked towards the hall from the other side.
Todd got out. "James, what's the situation inside?" he asked.
James glanced at Aurora, who was following closely, and said hesitantly, "Mr. Lewis is critically ill. The entire Lewis family is here, even the company's board members."
Todd's face darkened. "They're trying to force the boss to step down and are moving quickly."
John had only given a little push, and Rex and his son had acted so swiftly, revealing their ambition.
Aurora also sensed the seriousness of the situation and strode towards the hall.
"Ms. White," Todd called out, quickly following her. "The boss is on the third floor. Let me take you in through the back door."
"Can't I go through the front door?" Aurora frowned. "Mr. Smith, are you hiding something from me?"
Todd was in a tough spot, but since they were already here, he couldn't stop her.
Aurora glanced at Todd and walked straight into the hall.
Dozens of people were sitting in the hall, with Lloyd in the main seat and Helen on the left, looking unwell.
As soon as Aurora entered, everyone looked at her.
Helen stood up and called out, "Aurora, why are you here?"
A woman in a light blue dress standing in the center of the hall turned to look at Aurora. Aurora also looked at the woman in the dress, her brows furrowing as her gaze fell on the woman's swollen belly.
She was pregnant.
