Chapter 414 Transforming into a Proud Little Peacock
Aurora quietly ate her food, avoiding eye contact with John.
Black Hawk sat across from Aurora, barely glancing at the recruits from the Ironclad Union.
The coach, noticing Black Hawk's presence, felt a bit nervous and approached him. "Black Hawk, today I'll be teaching them the basics of combat."
"Alright," Black Hawk replied in his gruff, unpleasant voice.
Aurora shot a glance at Black Hawk before continuing to enjoy her meal and the sunset.
John, down below, didn't look at Aurora either. Their relationship was such that they avoided each other's gaze.
John was skilled in combat, but as a newcomer, he didn't want to stand out. That wasn't his goal here.
With an ordinary face and a subdued presence, John blended into the crowd.
Combat training required sparring partners.
Bob, assigned to another group, had delicate features and a pretty face. The rougher guys hesitated to hit him.
Such a beautiful face—who would want to damage it?
Seeing this, the coach, not wanting to disappoint Black Hawk, pointed at John. "You, spar with him. Give it your all."
Without a word, John approached Bob and asked, "Can you take a hit?"
"Ben, I've never been in a fight," Bob replied nervously.
Noticing the hesitation, Black Hawk observed Bob and remarked, "Why did they recruit a woman?"
The group burst into laughter.
"Quiet down," the coach barked, then respectfully addressed Black Hawk. "Black Hawk, he's a guy. I don't know how he got selected, but he's prettier than a woman. Who could hit him?"
Bob blushed and looked down.
Black Hawk sneered, "Send him to Robert's room. Tell him it's a gift from me."
Aurora's expression changed at this, and Bob panicked. "Black Hawk, I—"
"Black Hawk, that's disgusting," Aurora spat out her food. "I can't eat anymore. I'm going to my room."
She stood up and left.
Seeing Aurora leave in a huff, Black Hawk frowned. "Fine, let him stay and train for a while."
With that, he left too.
Once everyone was gone, John finally looked in the direction Aurora had left.
Night fell.
Aurora waited in her room.
She had given John a signal. Near 1 AM, Aurora claimed she wanted a midnight snack and complained about the kitchen's food, insisting on cooking herself.
At 1 AM, Aurora was in the kitchen making noodles. A guard outside was struggling to stay awake.
"You should go to bed," Aurora said. "This is the Ironclad Union headquarters. There are guards at every exit. Where could I possibly go?"
The guard, too tired to argue, yawned. "Ms. White, eat and then go back to your room."
"Sure, go get some sleep," Aurora waved him off.
Once he left, John arrived shortly after.
Aurora had already scoped out the area—no surveillance, no cameras. She quickly grabbed John's hand. "Honey, you're so smart. You understood my signal perfectly."
"No appetite" meant "meet in the kitchen at 1 AM."
John glanced coolly at the pot. "I was patrolling and decided to check in. Don't read too much into it."
Aurora stared at John without speaking.
Feeling uncomfortable under her gaze, John asked, "What? Not happy? Want to argue again?"
Aurora shook her head earnestly. "Honey, when you used to comfort me, did you feel frustrated, thinking I was unreasonable and troublesome?"
John smirked coldly. "Do you think I'm being unreasonable now? Difficult? A bother?"
"No, no," Aurora waved her hands. "This is genuine. Honey, I love you just the way you are. Even when you're angry, you're adorable."
Aurora realized her words sounded familiar. Wasn't this how John used to comfort her?
She had known John for so long, and it seemed he was always the one comforting her.
Now it was her turn to pamper him, let him be the proud peacock.
Holding John's hand, Aurora sincerely said, "Honey, it's my fault. I shouldn't have been unreasonable, shouldn't have argued, shouldn't have left in anger, shouldn't have..."
John was enjoying her words, but noticed she stopped.
Aurora ran out of things to say.
John lazily glanced at her. "Shouldn't have what?"
"Shouldn't have made you worry," Aurora said seriously. "You must have been worried when I got captured."
"You're overthinking. I wasn't worried at all," John replied calmly. "With your brains and luck, you'd survive."
"Then why did you infiltrate this place?"
"I came to investigate something. Finding you was just a bonus."
Aurora fell silent.
John started to leave, and Aurora followed, whispering, "Where are you going?"
John didn't answer, and Aurora, thinking he was up to something important, followed cautiously.
They avoided the main training area and all surveillance, arriving at the back of the headquarters.
The area was filled with junk, nothing else.
Aurora's curiosity grew, but before she could speak, John pulled her aside to hide.
The sound of a wheelchair approached.
Black Hawk appeared from behind the junk, always wearing his mask. The person pushing the wheelchair said, "Boss, we found Oren's hideout. There's a woman with him, very suspicious."
