Chapter 425 The Future Is Long

Allan hesitated for a moment before walking over and placing a hand on Todd's shoulder. "Don't worry. Lori's gonna be alright. The doc hasn't come out yet. Let's just wait and see what they say."

Todd shrugged off Allan's hand, his eyes red despite his age.

Luckily, the hallway was empty.

Allan glanced around and lowered his voice. "Okay, if someone sees us, this won't look good."

Todd felt miserable and shot Allan a glare.

Allan was confused by the sudden hostility. What had he done to deserve this?

Allan frowned. "Don't throw a fit. Lori's pregnant, shouldn't you be happy?"

"Why would I be happy? The baby isn't mine."

Allan froze. "Then whose is it?"

"You should know."

Allan fell silent.

Unhappy, Allan realized, "Todd, you better not say that in front of Lori. With her temper, she'll kill you."

Todd's mind clicked. "The baby isn't yours?"

Allan's face turned cold, ignoring Todd.

Just then, the doctor came out, and Todd immediately walked over. "How is she? Why did she suddenly faint? Is she okay? Is the baby okay?"

"The patient is awake now. Her blood pressure and EKG are normal, but she's still experiencing abdominal pain. The blood test results aren't back yet. We'll need to do an ultrasound."

The doctor was an internist, not an obstetrician.

Whether Lori was pregnant or not, they'd need to do a checkup to find out.

Lori didn't know what was wrong with her either. She woke up and was told to get an ultrasound.

Allan and Todd waited at the door. Lori felt embarrassed; she was usually tough and never this weak.

Lori refused to use a wheelchair, holding her abdomen, standing straight, and walking into the ultrasound room on her own.

Todd could only wait outside. The ultrasound and blood test results came back quickly.

Todd took the results to the doctor. The final report showed no pregnancy and no health issues; all indicators were normal.

The doctor was puzzled. "That's strange."

Lori's pain was real, but they couldn't find the cause.

Todd felt deflated, like a wilted eggplant.

He had been excited for nothing; Lori wasn't pregnant.

"Doctor, please check again. She fainted from the pain; how can everything be normal?"

"The report shows normal results. Let's observe for now. I'll have the chief take a look. Don't worry."

Lori was in the hospital room, feeling better. She said, "I'm fine now. Let's go home."

"Lori, let's wait a bit longer and do another checkup. It's better to be thorough."

"Checkup for what? It's too much trouble. I'm really fine." Lori got out of bed, put on her shoes, and was ready to leave.

"If you're fine, why did you faint?" Todd held her back. "We need to do another checkup. By the way, the doctor said you're not pregnant. I made a mistake."

Lori shrugged, not surprised at all. "Of course I'm not pregnant."

Todd was deeply hurt. "Why not? I put in a lot of effort. I think my sperm quality should be pretty good."

"Quality or not, one pill and it's all useless."

The implication was clear.

Lori had taken birth control.

To Todd, this was a devastating blow, his dignity as a man crushed.

A woman unwilling to have a man's child spoke volumes.

Todd's eyes reddened as he stared at Lori, clutching the report tightly.

Lori felt guilty under his gaze; Todd's eyes were terrifying.

"What's wrong with you?"

"How could you kill them!" Todd's voice was soft, almost like he was talking to himself.

Lori was baffled. "Who did I kill?"

Todd closed his eyes, turned his head away, his expression pained, and stormed out.

Less than a minute later, he stormed back in, demanding, "You need to do another checkup."

Seeing Todd's bloodshot eyes, Lori uncharacteristically didn't argue and obediently did another checkup, which still showed no issues.

...

Aurora was at the store, busy since Sophia and Leo were out.

She took a nap in the afternoon and had a nightmare, dreaming someone was out to get her.

Waking up, Aurora shook her head and muttered, "Someone's always trying to harm me!"

No peace at all.

Aurora planned to visit Lori, so she closed the store at five and headed to the parking lot. Karolyn came over with a particularly fragrant bouquet.

"Aurora, this is a new variety we got at the store. It's really fragrant. Take a bunch home."

"You're too kind." Aurora smiled and declined. "I can't keep taking your flowers. You should save your money for your kids."

"It's not worth much. Just don't reject it." Karolyn insisted, handing the flowers to Aurora.

"Aurora."

John's voice came from behind.

Aurora turned, surprised. "What are you doing here?"

"Just passing by, thought I'd pick you up." John walked over, naturally wrapping an arm around Aurora's waist, and looked at Karolyn. "And who is this?"

"Honey, this is Karolyn Harrington. I accidentally bumped into her before." Aurora introduced them briefly. "Karolyn, this is my husband."

Karolyn's gaze lingered on John, unable to look away. Nervously, she clutched her clothes and quickly looked down, complimenting, "Aurora, your husband is really handsome!"

John's good looks were well-known.

Aurora smiled modestly, and John said, "Let's go. I'll take you to eat."

"Okay." Aurora waved to Karolyn. "We're off then."

Aurora ended up giving the fragrant flowers back to Karolyn and left in John's car.

Karolyn stood by the roadside, watching them leave. Once the car was out of sight, she turned and threw the flowers into the trash, muttering, "No rush, there's plenty of time."
