Chapter 361: Acting

Aurora was eager to know what was happening outside, and it showed all over her face.

Of course, these were the thoughts she wanted Wade to see.

Wade shook his head, "I've been busy at the bakery and haven't been to The Lewis Villa. I don't know what's going on right now. I'll go to The Lewis Villa later to check it out."

"Okay." Aurora looked dejected, holding her head in pain, "John must hate me so much, Wade. I want to find him, but I'm scared. I don't want to go to jail, and I'm afraid of the way he looks at me with hatred."

"Aurora, don't overthink it. The police will clear your name," Wade comforted her. "Have something to eat first."

Aurora shook her head, "I have no appetite, I can't eat."

She buried her head between her knees, feeling completely lost.

Wade didn't push her. He walked to the water dispenser and poured her a glass of water, "Then have some water."

Aurora took a deep breath, sipped the water, and asked, "Wade, can I borrow your phone?"

Without hesitation, Wade handed over his phone, "Sure, use it as much as you need. I'll go to the kitchen."

Wade deliberately walked away, leaving the door slightly ajar, and hid behind it, watching Aurora's every move.

Aurora remained calm on the surface. She didn't browse through Wade's phone randomly; she just checked the trending topics online.

The case of the daughter-in-law killing her mother-in-law had been a major news story, attracting a lot of attention from netizens.

The comment section was still full of curses. Aurora covered her mouth with one hand, and as her eyelashes fluttered, tears fell.

She looked like she was collapsing under the immense pressure of public opinion.

Aurora cried silently, her thumb scrolling through the comments as if looking for something.

Finally, Aurora saw a comment from someone with the username "Beauty" arguing with others in the comment section.

Trying to hide her excitement, Aurora quickly logged into one of her other Twitter accounts, leaving a short message for "Beauty": [I'm fine.]

After sending the message, she immediately logged out.

She didn't use Wade's phone to contact John. Knowing John, if he found out she was with Wade, he would definitely come looking for her, ruining her plan.

Her main purpose in borrowing Wade's phone was to make Wade lower his guard.

Helen's tragic death must have left John in great pain. Now that she had a chance to get her son back, she had to seize it.

Wade watched for a while before going back in. He glanced at Aurora and saw that she was just reading the trending comments. He comforted her, "Aurora, stop looking at those. These people don't know the truth; they're just irrationally following the crowd."

"Now I've become the evil daughter-in-law. The more glorious I was before, the more miserable I am now. If it weren't for you taking me in, I wouldn't even have a place to go." Aurora returned the phone to Wade, leaning weakly against the headboard and looking out the window. "If I get through this, I'll remember your kindness. I'll talk to Grandpa and John about letting you return to The Lewis Villa."

Wade put the phone in his pocket and smiled indifferently, "I'm quite happy with my life now. I haven't thought about going back to The Lewis Villa. Living a simple life with fewer worries is pretty good."

Wade had always appeared indifferent to fame and fortune. Since being kicked out of the Lewis family, he had never sought help from them, whether working on construction sites or running a bakery. It really looked like he had cut all ties with the Lewis family.

Because of this, both she and John had been deceived, forgetting how Wade had once schemed to inherit the company.

At that moment, Rex's voice came from the living room, "Wade, what are you doing in there? John's mother is dead, and all the Lewis family relatives are at The Lewis Villa for the funeral. We should go too, or people will talk. If we want to return to the Lewis family, it'll be difficult."

Aurora heard Rex's words clearly. Wade had just said he wouldn't go back, but Rex immediately exposed Wade's true intentions.

Aurora said nothing, just gave Wade a complicated look.

Wade was obviously annoyed, his face tense as he walked out, "Dad, I never said I wanted to go back to the Lewis family. If you want to, that's your business."

"Your last name is Lewis, so you're part of the Lewis family..." Rex's voice grew closer louder as he walked in and saw Aurora. He pointed at her in shock, "Aurora, she's a fugitive, Wade. How is she here? Turn her in immediately."

Wade pulled Rex out with a stern face.

Aurora heard the door close but couldn't hear what Wade and his father were saying.

Outside.

Wade spoke, "Just pretend you didn't see anything. I know what I'm doing."

"Wade, she's a fugitive. You're harboring a fugitive, which is a crime." Rex was agitated, "Turn her in immediately."

Wade dragged Rex to the door, his eyes suddenly turning cold, "Dad, trust me this once. I'll prove to you that I'm not less capable than John."

Rex was stunned by Wade's gaze and momentarily forgot to speak.

Wade let go of him, "Go to The Lewis Villa for the funeral, Dad. Remember, the less you say, the better."

Rex was a bit confused, but he trusted his son and kept quiet about the matter.

After Rex left, Wade took out his phone and checked it again to make sure Aurora hadn't contacted John. Onlyt then did he felt relieved.

Wade glanced at the bedroom door, a cold smile forming on his lips, "She's just a woman. What trouble can she cause? A murder case has already scared her out of her wits."

Meanwhile, inside the room, Aurora was also staring at the door, her gaze sharp and piercing, as if her eyes could could cut through the door and hit Wade.

She kept reminding herself to stay calm.

A door separated their thoughts. Now, it was a matter of who could act better.

On the other side.

John was ultimately a step too late. By the time he arrived, Paul was already dead, the body still warm, indicating he had just been killed.

From the wounds, John quickly deduced it was Lion's men who had done it.

Allan and the police sealed off the scene, combining this case with Helen's.

John arrived just in time to see the fresh corpse. When Lori and Ava arrived, they found nothing.

Lori cursed in anger, "This is infuriating."

Her phone kept buzzing with system notifications.

Needing an outlet for her frustration, Lori took out her phone and logged into her Twitter account.

Because she had defended Aurora online, a swarm of irrational netizens were attacking her in the comments.

Todd glanced over, "Beauty? what a tacky name."

Lori glared at Todd, "Todd, do you want to be bullied again?"

Lori meant to snap at Todd, but her words came out sounding flirtatious and ambiguous.

"Lori, watch your mouth," Todd's ears turned red.

Lori realized it and turned her face away in silence.

Ava, sensing something was off, looked between Todd and Lori, "Did I miss something while I was away?"

It was the first time Ava had seen Lori calm down without snapping at Todd.

"John, come look," Lori suddenly shouted, "Aurora left me a message."
