Chapter 428 Suspicious Karolyn

Lori finished speaking, took a deep breath, and went still.

Aurora was stunned for a moment before she shouted, "John, Todd, get in here, quick!"

Before she could finish, Lori's eyes snapped open, and she sat up with a grin. "Gotcha, Aurora! Just messing with you."

"Lori!" Aurora's face turned icy.

Seeing Aurora was angry, Lori quickly said, "I was just having a nosebleed and thought I'd play a little prank. Don't be mad. Did you come with John?"

"Yeah." Aurora sighed in frustration and plopped down on the couch. "What's going on with you? First, you were nauseous and throwing up, and now you're having nosebleeds. Have you seen a doctor?"

"I did. That's why String Bean is sulking downstairs." Lori stuffed tissues into her nostrils to stop the bleeding and lay back on the couch. "He thought I was pregnant, but the tests showed I wasn't. I told him I had taken some medication, and he got mad."

Aurora was speechless. "So, what did the tests say?"

"My health is fine. Everything's normal."

"This doesn't seem normal at all." Aurora was worried about Lori. She was feeling sick one moment and having nosebleeds the next. Something was definitely wrong.

"I'm perfectly fine. I just need to... let off some steam." Lori seemed frustrated as she continued, "I tried to jump him earlier, and he had the nerve to say he'd call the cops on me. He's got issues."

"Lori, are you sure it's not your own brain that's malfunctioning?"

"First, you tell him you took medication, and then you try to jump him. It's like hitting someone and then offering them candy, and not even the good kind."

"What's wrong with me?" Lori was annoyed. "Aurora, I'm just looking out for my mental and physical health. I even offered him money. If he doesn't want it, fine. I'll just go out and find someone else. With money, it's not hard to find a man."

Aurora was silent.

Offering money? Aurora thought Todd was being pretty patient for not walking away.

"Do you think he needs money?"

"Whether he needs it or not is his business. But it's like eating a meal; you can't just not pay."

That logic was sound. Aurora had no response.

She had always taken a neutral stance on Lori and Todd's relationship, not interfering.

"You seem to be in good spirits, so I'm leaving. Whether you want to eat raw meat or cooked meat, that's up to you."

Aurora felt it was best not to get in their way.

"Aurora, you're leaving already?"

"Why stay? To bail you out of jail later?"

Lori was silent.

"Make sure to get another check-up. Don't take it lightly."

After repeatedly reminding Lori, Aurora left with John.

Todd stayed behind, pondering how to keep Lori interested in him, while Lori was in her room deciding whether to go out or stay in.

John was eager to get home and make love, determined to have a daughter.

He had been particularly diligent about this lately.

The next day, Aurora's legs felt weak.

She was listlessly minding the store when a woman rushed in. "Ms. White, Karolyn's in trouble. You need to come quickly."

"What happened to Karolyn?"

"She fainted in the store earlier. When I asked her, she said she didn't have any other family and told me to find you."

"How is she now? Did you call an ambulance?"

"She's awake now. We didn't call an ambulance. From the way Karolyn was talking, she probably doesn't want to go to the hospital. Medical bills are so expensive these days, easily thousands of dollars."

As they spoke, Aurora followed the woman to the flower shop.

Karolyn was in the back room, resting on a simple cot.

"Aurora, you're here," Karolyn said, trying to sit up.

"Stay lying down."

Aurora glanced at Karolyn's large belly. "How are you feeling?"

"Much better, nothing serious." Karolyn said, "This lady was kind enough to help. I don't have many friends, so I asked her to find you. Sorry for the trouble, Aurora."

"It's fine. The important thing is that you and the baby are okay."

Aurora noticed the room smelled very fragrant. "Karolyn, what flower smells so strong? Usually, the more fragrant the flower, the more likely it is to be toxic. It's best not to be around such strong scents when you're pregnant."

"Okay, I'll be careful. The flower was just cultivated, and the shop owner plans to give it away. I'm just an employee, so I can't do anything about it until he takes it away." Karolyn yawned. "Aurora, I'm a bit tired. Can you watch the store for a while?"

"Sure, get some rest. I'll keep an eye on things."

Aurora went to the front of the shop, where the scent of flowers was overwhelming.

She couldn't help but remember John's warning.

Aurora's expression grew serious. She looked up and saw a familiar face across the street.

It was Oren.

Why was he near the flower shop again?

For some reason, Aurora suddenly recalled overhearing a conversation at the Ironclad Union base.

Oren was with a very suspicious pregnant woman.

Could that woman be...

Aurora's eyes widened as she turned sharply to stare at the door to the back room.
