Chapter 454 The Years Are Peaceful, the Breeze Is Gentle
John's eyes landed on the pregnancy test, and a wave of joy surged through his heart.
"Pregnant? Is it a boy? A girl? Or maybe twins again?"
Given their past experiences, Aurora might be expecting twins again, but the gender was still a mystery.
"Not pregnant."
Aurora picked up the test and shrugged. "Looks like you'll have to keep trying, John."
Both of them had a relaxed attitude about having another child. They would be happy if it happened, but wouldn't be disappointed if it didn't.
Aurora wasn't pregnant; in fact, her period had just started.
John noticed the tissues in the trash can and gently ruffled Aurora's hair. "Go lie down and rest. I'll make you some ginger tea to warm you up."
Aurora always had cramps and sore legs during her period, and John would personally take care of her.
"Honey, you're the best." Aurora hooked her arms around John's neck and kissed him.
"Women are made of water, after all," John chuckled as he turned to leave.
Aurora thought for a moment before realizing what he meant. Women are like water; when given warmth, they become warm water, but if neglected, they turn into ice.
Aurora went to lie down and rest, video chatting with Summer and Loren. Trey and Jax were taken care of by the nanny, as John had arranged.
After a long day, Aurora wanted to rest. She suddenly remembered something and picked up her phone to call Sophia.
Aurora called several times, but no one answered. Finally, she sent a text: "Call me when you can."
After sending the message, Aurora snuggled under the covers and dozed off.
Aurora was a light sleeper, so when John came in with the ginger tea, she woke up but stayed in bed, looking at him with soft, loving eyes like a lazy cat.
John placed the ginger tea on the nightstand and took Aurora's hand to warm it. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Just thinking how good-looking you are." Aurora adjusted her position and smiled. "Actually, the first time I met you, I thought you were handsome."
"The first time?" John raised an eyebrow. "The first time, you didn't even know if I was round or flat. How could you tell I was handsome?"
Back then, they had met under unusual circumstances and hadn't even seen each other's faces clearly.
If the doctor hadn't advised against an abortion due to Aurora's health, she wouldn't have kept Summer and Loren, and they wouldn't have the happiness they had today.
Aurora changed the subject. "The test results might be off. I asked Alexander, and Sandra is allergic to peanuts, just like Karolyn. Plus, Karolyn has a faint scar on her face that she usually covers with makeup."
"I discussed it with Allan. Sandra's case is closed for now. Without solid evidence, we can't alert her. She's cunning, and if we spook her, it'll be hard to catch her again." John tested the temperature of the ginger tea. "It's ready. Want me to feed you?"
Aurora felt embarrassed. "I can drink it myself."
It would be awkward for John to feed her.
Aurora drank the tea in one go, feeling the warmth spread through her body, easing her discomfort.
"You handle the Sandra situation. I just hope Gary can develop the medicine soon. Lori's health can't wait much longer."
"Got it. I'll handle it. You get some sleep. I'll stay here with you."
"Okay."
This simple, warm life was exactly what Aurora wanted.
John grabbed his laptop and sat beside her, working on company matters while keeping her company.
The gentle breeze and peaceful moments filled Aurora's heart. She watched John for a while before drifting off to sleep.
Aurora was later woken by the ringing phone. It was late at night, and she groggily answered, "Hello, who is this?"
On the other end, Sophia's voice was filled with heart-wrenching sobs. "Aurora, I can't go on. I have no reason to live anymore."
