Chapter 229 Come on, Let's Act Together

John had just taken Alexander to the police station for questioning, and now he found out that Alexander was Aurora's father. What was he supposed to do now?

After all, that was Aurora's biological father. He couldn't just tick him off; he had to treat him right.

John said, "Aurora, I'll call right now and get someone to release Alexander... your dad."

Aurora shook her head. "No need, let him stay in there for a few days."

Gary was stunned. "Wow, that's bold." This was a real case of "loving" father and "dutiful" daughter.

Aurora added, "Jack's situation is pretty complicated. If Alexander gets out now, it'll just make things worse for me. Plus, I haven't decided if I want to accept him as my dad yet."

Suddenly having a biological father show up, and it being Alexander who once wanted to marry her, made Aurora feel a bit weird.

If it weren't for reading her mom's letter and getting a new perspective on Alexander, and knowing her mom missed Alexander until she died, she wouldn't even consider recognizing him as her dad.

"It's your call." John didn't care much. After all, Aurora was his, and they even had kids together. Alexander couldn't mess with their relationship.

They got to the hospital. Aurora went to see Helen, who was still in a coma and hadn't woken up. With another bad head injury, waking up wouldn't be easy. All Gary could do now was hope for a miracle.

John's eye surgery and saving Jack were the top priorities now. With Helen still out cold, bringing Summer and Loren back to the family had to wait.

Aurora and John hadn't told the kids the truth yet. They decided to wait until everything was settled down to formally acknowledge them.

John's son had to be acknowledged openly, so everyone would know. At the last birthday party, John had already publicly claimed the two kids as his own.

Next, they just needed to throw a big introduction party to formally present the kids as members of the Lewis family to society.

Sophia quickly found out Aurora was back in Silvercrest City and rushed to the hospital to see her.

"Oh my God, you're finally back." Sophia hugged Aurora's arm. "I missed you so much. Next time you go somewhere, take me with you."

Aurora laughed, "I think you're just bored and want someone to hang out with."

"You know me so well." Sophia smiled. "Aurora, ever since you left, Silvercrest City has been so boring."

Aurora pretended to be shocked. "You haven't fallen in love with me, have you? Don't, I already have someone."

"No way. Who would fall in love with you? I'm straight." Sophia laughed, "Besides, I wouldn't dare compete with Mr. Lewis for his wife."

They laughed while walking out, and Sophia asked, "Aurora, where are you going?"

"To buy some things to visit Chris." Aurora owed Chris a lot and couldn't just ignore it. She was always clear about her debts and favors.

Aurora bought a fruit basket and some nutritional supplements to visit Chris's ward. As she got to the door, she heard Chris's mom, Laura, complaining, "You almost lost your life for some woman who's not even related to you."

She continued, "Look at you, since you've been in the hospital, how many times has that Ms. White come to see you? She seemed nice at the party, but in the end, she's ungrateful."

"Mom, she's not like that." Chris's voice was cold, with a hint of annoyance. "Don't badmouth her in front of me again."

"You're still defending her? Chris, you can't be serious." Laura saw through her son's feelings and was surprised. "Oh my God, Chris, don't tell me I'm right? That's the Lewis family's acknowledged fiancée. What are you getting involved for?"

Aurora and Sophia heard everything clearly at the door. Sophia whispered to Aurora, "Aurora, does Chris really have feelings for you? He's got good taste."

Anyone who liked Aurora was considered a kindred spirit by Sophia.

"Don't talk nonsense." Aurora knew Chris's feelings, but such words couldn't be spoken lightly. If such a rumor spread, it would be bad for everyone, especially John.

She had a boyfriend, so she needed to cut off any ambiguous relationships with other guys to avoid any rumors. This was out of respect for herself and for John.

To avoid any gossip and prevent being alone with Chris, she even brought Sophia along this time.

Sophia immediately fell silent and made a shushing gesture to indicate she wouldn't say anything.

"Mrs. Harris, Mr. Harris." Aurora put on a smile and walked in with the nutritional supplements and fruit basket.

Seeing Aurora, Chris couldn't hide the joy in his eyes, but he quickly suppressed it as his expression turned indifferent. "Ms. White, you really didn't have to bring all this."

"It's the least I could do," Aurora said. "You got hurt saving me, so you're my hero. By the way, how's your recovery?"

"Not bad." Chris's gaze dimmed. To Aurora, he was just a lifesaver.

"That's good." Aurora then looked at Laura. "Mrs. Harris, I'm really sorry. I've been meaning to visit, but some things came up. Please forgive me."

Aurora was so polite that even though Laura was unhappy, she couldn't find any trouble. "Ms. White is so busy, it's okay if you couldn't come. My son is almost recovered and will be discharged in a few days."

Aurora could hear the scorn in Laura's tone and smiled lightly. "That's great. Once Mr. Harris is discharged, I'll properly thank him for saving my life."

Chris felt uncomfortable with Aurora repeatedly mentioning the lifesaving debt. "No need, these gifts are more than enough."

Aurora didn't understand why Chris was acting so strangely and speaking in such a sarcastic tone. 'Like mother, like son,' she thought.

It wasn't the first time she'd seen Chris act like this, so she didn't think much of it and left after a short while.

Sophia realized why Aurora had brought her along. "Aurora, you're being too cautious, avoiding suspicion even when visiting a patient."

Aurora laughed, "Better to be careful. Let's go."

In the evening, Richard arrived. John had people keeping an eye on Richard's movements. When Richard got here, he didn't immediately contact Aurora.

After knowing that, Aurora's expression turned serious. "Where is he now?"

John said, "Skyview Haven Hotel."

Aurora guessed, "Is he planning to settle in first before contacting me?"

"Don't rush," John advised. "Wait for him to reach out to you first."

"Okay."

It was already 8 PM by the time Richard called Aurora. "Aurora, I just arrived in Silvercrest City. Where are you now?"

"Richard, I'll come to you." Aurora didn't expose Richard's lie.

"Alright, I'm at Skyview Haven Hotel, 88 Elm Street."

"Okay." After hanging up, Aurora said, "I'm going to Skyview Haven Hotel. Can you lend me a few people?"

She wasn't foolish enough to go alone. Since she hadn't exposed him, she would continue the act.

"I'll have Sam, Tyler, Lachlan, and Gideon go with you." John nodded. He wanted to protect Aurora himself, but being blind, he couldn't. So he sent his most trusted men with her.

"Alright."

John added, "To avoid Richard getting suspicious, say that there have been many enemies seeking revenge on me lately, so Sam and the others are there to protect you. Act like you're reluctantly accepting it."

Aurora smiled, "Don't worry, I'm good at that. With you as my mentor, I've picked up a few tricks."

After all, John was a master at deception; he had driven out the Wade father and son and fooled the entire Silvercrest City, including her.

People said that when you didn't know the enemy's true intentions, showing weakness was the best form of attack.

John smiled indulgently, "Go ahead, I'll be here waiting for your good news."

Aurora's resolve hardened. "I'll settle both old and new scores with this dear uncle," recalling her mother's letters.

She could have had a brother or sister, but Richard had caused their death. This debt had to be settled thoroughly.

After Aurora left, John called Gary. "Perform the surgery on me tonight." He couldn't wait any longer.

His mother was gravely ill, yet the person who hurt her was still at large, and his beloved was risking her life to save Jack. How could he just sit and wait?

Gary frowned. "I don't recommend doing the surgery now. The success rate is only thirty percent."

"Thirty percent is enough," John insisted.
