Chapter 430 Getting More and More Serious

Aurora was lost in her thoughts when her phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence.

It was John calling.

She answered, "Hey, babe!"

"Not at the store?" John asked. "You home?"

"No, I'm at..." Aurora glanced at the street sign nearby. "88 Elm Street, right next to the store."

"Head home soon. I'll be back late tonight, just wanted to let you know."

John always kept her in the loop about his plans, making her feel cherished and loved.

"Okay, I'll head back soon. Don't drink too much."

John's lazy voice came through, "Got it. No drinking or smoking while we're trying for a baby. Gotta make sure we have a healthy one."

Aurora fell silent for a moment.

"Stop teasing me. Alright, I'm heading back now."

The alley was dark and eerie.

Just as Aurora hung up, she heard Karolyn's cries for help.

"Help! Help!"

Aurora quickly pocketed her phone and ran towards the sound.

At the end of the alley, Karolyn was wildly swinging a wooden stick at Oren, shouting in fear, "You creep! I'll beat you to death! How dare you go after a pregnant woman, you scum!"

Oren took a few hits, glanced at Aurora, and bolted.

Karolyn, still terrified, kept swinging the stick blindly, "You bastard!"

"Karolyn, he's gone." Aurora approached her. "It's okay now, don't be scared."

Karolyn opened her eyes and, seeing Aurora, let out a sigh of relief. "Aurora, I was so scared. A man was following me, so I hid in the alley, but he followed me here. I just grabbed the stick and started hitting him."

Aurora asked deliberately, "You didn't see what he looked like?"

She had seen him clearly; it was Oren. But she didn't know why Oren was following Karolyn.

"No, I was too scared to look." Karolyn was still trembling. "It must be my ex-husband's new girlfriend trying to harm me."

Aurora suggested, "Should we call the police? I think it's best to report this."

"No, it's too embarrassing. If word gets out, what will people think of me?" Karolyn shook her head, her voice filled with fear. "Aurora, can you take me home? I'm really scared."

"Sure." Aurora agreed without hesitation and drove Karolyn home.

On the way, Karolyn made a call, angrily telling the person on the other end, "Keep your woman in check and stop messing with my life. We're done."

After hanging up, Aurora asked, "Was that your ex-husband?"

"Yeah, I warned him to stop causing trouble. I just want a peaceful life." Karolyn looked dejected and helpless.

Aurora didn't say much more. When they reached Karolyn's place at Rose Garden Estate, she only dropped her off at the entrance.

"Get some rest. I have something urgent at home, so I won't go up with you."

"Okay, Aurora. Sorry for the trouble today."

"No problem, it was on my way."

Aurora smiled and drove off.

Karolyn stood at the entrance, watching Aurora leave, then made a call, her voice stern, "I warned you, don't show up in front of me again. She's getting suspicious."

...

Back home, Aurora washed away her fatigue before heading to the nursery to check on her sons. Trey and Jax had just been fed and were crawling around, playing with their toys.

As soon as Aurora sat down, the two chubby little boys climbed all over her.

Trey, the more mischievous one, loved to grab Aurora's mouth, poke her nose, and eyes.

Aurora laughed and gently said, "Trey, you can't do that."

Trey, however, was having a blast, climbing on Aurora, patting her face with his chubby hands, and nuzzling her neck like a little piglet, his chubby bottom sticking up as if searching for milk.

The little guy was having so much fun, while Jax, the quieter one, sat nearby, playing with the decorations on Aurora's clothes.

"You two little rascals."

Aurora couldn't help but laugh. She took out her phone and snapped a picture, sending it to John with a caption: [Help, honey, come save me.]

The reply came instantly.

[I'll be home in five seconds.]

Aurora thought John was joking, given that he had said he'd be late.

But soon, she heard the housekeeper's voice, "Mr. Lewis is back. Mrs. Lewis is with the kids."

The door opened, and John walked in, bringing a gust of cold air with him. He scooped up the two little rascals, one in each arm.

Aurora sat up and asked, "Why are you back so early?"

"I had Elena cancel my meetings. I wanted to be with you guys." John lifted Trey, giving his bottom a light pat. "You little rascal, bullying my wife."

Trey, ever the drama king, pouted and looked at Aurora, then started crying.

John was silent.

"Don't cry, don't cry. Come here, let mommy hold you." Aurora reached out and took Trey, who immediately stopped crying and smiled, snuggling against her shoulder, looking adorable.

John and Aurora were both silent.

Kids' moods changed faster than the weather.

One moment crying, the next laughing.

Jax climbed onto John, his teeth not fully grown, and started gnawing on John's hand, using it as a teething toy, biting again and again.

John looked at Aurora with a hint of grievance, "Aurora, I think these two boys are constantly reminding me of the importance of having a daughter."

Aurora couldn't help but laugh, "Jax is the most attached to you. It's a sign of affection."

Jax was always quiet around Aurora, but as soon as John came home, he would cling to him.

John picked Jax up and held him, saying, "By the way, Todd mentioned today that Lori has been having nosebleeds. They had her checked out, but they couldn't find the cause. He's thinking of taking her to the island to see Gary."

"She's having nosebleeds again?" Aurora was worried. "That's not a small issue. It's good to have Mr. Collins check her out."

"So, you need to talk to Lori. She doesn't listen to Todd."

"Alright, I'll go see her tomorrow." Aurora remembered Karolyn's situation and said, "By the way, I saw Oren near the flower shop again today. Later, I saw him following Karolyn. I don't know why he's following her."

"Seems like Karolyn isn't as simple as she seems." John frowned slightly. "Stay away from her."

"Okay!"

Aurora thought about everything that had happened since she met Karolyn. There was always a sense that everything was orchestrated, and Karolyn's overly friendly and familiar behavior was suspicious.

Especially those poisonous flowers, which raised even more doubts.
