Chapter 356: John firmly believes in Aurora's innocence

The heavy rain washed over the ground, mixing with the bright red blood that flowed to Todd's feet.

His face paled, and he sprinted towards Helen.

Helen was lying on the ground, her eyes wide open in terror, no longer breathing.

She must have seen something that terrified her beyond belief before she died.

That's why she died with her eyes open.

Todd's mind went blank, his face ashen, as he checked Helen's abdomen.

Lori ran over: "Todd, how's Auntie Helen?"

"She was stabbed twice in the abdomen, she's already gone." Todd sat dejectedly in the rain.

At that moment, a car drove up, screeched to a halt, splashing water as the tires skidded against the ground.

The car door opened, and it was John stumbled out.

John was covered in injuries, worse than when Wade's men ambushed him last time.

John had fought his way through Lion's men, relying entirely on his willpower to make it here.

"Mom!"

John looked at Helen on the ground, stumbled over, the blood mixing with the rainwater and flowing far away.

Todd stepped aside: "Mr. Lewis."

John looked at Helen, his legs suddenly giving way as he knelt beside her. He trembled as he checked Helen's breath.

There was none.

John's jaw tightened, and he clenched a fist, suppressing the grief in his heart, and reached out to close Helen's eyes.

After doing this, John suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood, overwhelmed by grief, and fainted.

"Mr. Lewis." Todd was shocked and quickly supported him.

This was the first time Todd had seen John so weak, covered in injuries, one eye swollen shut, almost unable to see, and blood on his head.

It was impossible to escape from international mercenaries unscathed.

The heavy rain lasted all night.

The police arrived, retrieved the surveillance footage, and finally identified Aurora as the prime suspect

Now Aurora was missing, and the police were searching for her.

When Todd and Lori arrived, they did see Aurora, or rather, someone who looked like Aurora. They had no doubt and told the police in unison, "That wasn't Aurora."

Todd also said, "That wasn't Mrs. Lewis."

The person in charge of the case was Allan.

Allan had resumed his duties, and with a businesslike demeanor, "Your testimonies are not credible. You two are likely covering for the criminal."

"That's nonsense." Lori cursed angrily, "That definitely wasn't Aurora. I swear on my honor."

Allan couldn't help but say, "Your honor doesn't seem that great."

Lori was stunned.

"Mr. Jennings, we worked together, how can you not believe me? I definitely know Aurora."

Allan said, "The surveillance footage is clear. It was Aurora who killed Helen. Now Aurora is wanted, and once we catch her, the case will be closed."

Virtual Bridge had several surveillance cameras, but the one where Aurora was knocked out was broken.

Lori was furious, "This is a travesty. Just because someone has a face identical to Aurora's? I can do that too."

Lori took out a human skin mask and disguised herself as Aurora in front of Allan.

Several police officers, who were former colleagues of Lori, watched in amazement. It was more impressive than a magic show.

One colleague exclaimed, "Amazing, Lori. I didn't know you had this skill. If we had known, solving cases would have been a breeze. You'd make a great undercover agent and definitely boost our case-solving rate."

Allan was also surprised, but...

"Even so, it doesn't prove that Aurora didn't kill Helen. Lori, you don't need to say more. We have to catch her and interrogate her. That's the procedure."

Helen's death was a criminal case, and it couldn't be dismissed just because of Lori's words. Aurora had to be interrogated.

Lori wanted to argue further, but Todd pulled her back, "Lori, they have their procedures. Mrs. Lewis is missing, and we need to find her first."

Lori understood this, but she couldn't stay calm with Aurora as a suspect. She shook off Todd, "Mr. Jennings is your lover, of course, you'd side with him."

Lori left after saying that.

Todd was stunned.

Allan was stunned.

All the colleagues were stunned.

Allan and Todd were lovers?

This was too shocking, and everyone looked at Allan and Todd differently.

Allan cleared his throat, "Alright, everyone, back to work. What are you standing here for? Do you still want your bonuses this month?"

Hearing about the bonuses, everyone immediately went back to work.

Allan asked, "Has John woken up?"

Todd complained, "You called me here at dawn, I haven't had a chance to see him. How would I know?"

Allan squinted, "You and Lori are starting to sound more and more alike."

Both of them seemed very dissatisfied with him.

Allan was helpless too. Wearing this police uniform, he had to follow the rules and couldn't show favoritism.

"John's mother is dead, and the suspect is his wife." Allan showed a bit of sympathy, "Let's go to the hospital first."

Todd naturally followed to the hospital.

He had known John for many years, and this was probably the biggest ordeal John had faced.

His youngest son was still missing, his mother was dead, and his wife was a suspect and missing.

At the hospital.

John had just woken up, his eyes bloodshot. The moment he opened his eyes, it was like a long-dormant beast had awakened, exuding a terrifying aura.

Allan followed the procedure and asked formally, "Mr. Lewis, regarding Aurora's stabbing of your mother..."

Before Allan could finish, John interrupted coldly, "My wife never have killed my mother."

Even with the surveillance footage, even with the police's professional lip-reading analysis of the argument between Helen and the killer, John still didn't believe it.

John was convinced it wasn't Aurora.

John's words left Allan speechless.

And before Allan could speak again, John spoke sternly, "Todd, see him out."

John's emotions were very unstable. Todd stepped in, "Allan, you should leave for now."

Allan frowned, "I'll come back later."

After Allan left, John turned to Todd, "Get me a computer."

"Okay." Todd just followed the order without asking.

Todd quickly brought a computer, and John hacked into the surveillance system, pulling up all the footage around Virtual Bridge.

Todd looked at John's injuries and asked, "Mr. Lewis, what happened last night?"

"They hired Lion's men."

Hearing the codename Lion, Todd was shocked.

John being alive was truly a miracle.

"I underestimated Sandra before. This time, I'll make sure she doesn't come back." A hint of killing intent flashed in John's eyes. Right now, grieving or finding Helen's killer wasn't the priority—finding Aurora was.

One of the surveillance cameras at Virtual Bridge was broken a few hours before the incident.

John used his skills to repair it, but he could only retrieve footage from a few hours before the incident.

John pulled up the surveillance near the bar. He immediately recognized Aurora's car and saw Lori disguised as Aurora entering the bar. He instantly knew it wasn't Aurora.

It was clear to him that the person who killed Helen wasn't Aurora either.

John's eyes were fixed on the computer screen, following Aurora's car as it trailed another car.

It was a car with fake plates.

Todd looked at the footage and said, "Why didn't Allan and his team find this?"

"This part was damaged. I just repaired it. There's a three-minute gap that's not easy to notice."

Last night's setup wasn't perfect and had many flaws. With Lori disguised as Aurora entering the bar, the inconsistencies were even more glaring.
