Chapter 177 A Traitor Emerged

Jennifer stared at her computer, her brows knitted together. But remembering what Aurora had said on the phone, she gritted her teeth and started upping the price.

Jennifer: [Thirty million, that's already a lot. If you don't want it, I'll find someone else.]

A hundred million was no joke, and it wasn't worth it. If she wasn't scared of getting caught and pissing off John, Jennifer would've done it herself.

Aurora casually sipped her milk and replied: [One hundred million. Not a penny less.]

Aurora was sure the other party wouldn't go elsewhere. Lori had previously beaten up Fox from Shadow of Darkness, and they definitely wanted payback.

Spending money to hire an enemy to take out a rival? It was a win-win.

Jennifer: [Fifty million dollars.]

Aurora: [One hundred million dollars.]

Jennifer: [Sixty million dollars!]

Aurora: [One hundred million dollars!]

No matter how much Jennifer tried to negotiate, Aurora wouldn't budge.

Lori watched in awe. "Aurora, is this even possible?"

"Haggling is all about mind games." Aurora smirked, "She'll cave."

Sure enough, after nearly three minutes of silence, Jennifer sent one word: [Deal.]

Lori was stunned. "One hundred million? Just like that."

Ava was impressed too. "Lori, we should let Aurora handle all our bargaining from now on."

Aurora held up three fingers. "No problem, just give me a three percent cut."

Lori's eye twitched. "Aurora, you're so greedy."

Aurora laughed and stood up. "You can have them transfer the money now."

"Okay." Lori sent the account details to the other party. They had agreed on payment upfront.

Aurora walked to the window, deep in thought, organizing her thoughts.

Fox from Shadow of Darkness would rather spend a fortune to have Lori killed than do it herself. Could it just be because of the grudge between Lori and Fox?

No way! There had to be another reason.

Aurora had a hunch that Fox from might be connected to Jennifer.

Aurora never believed in coincidences.

"Lori, I'm taking Loren out for a walk," Aurora called out.

With such beautiful scenery, it would be a shame not to go out.

"Aurora, how about I go with you?" Lori sounded worried.

"I'll just walk by the river, it should be fine. You go ahead with your work." Aurora waved to Loren. "Loren, let's go."

"Coming, Mommy." Loren trotted over.

Aurora took Loren out. It had been dark last night, so she hadn't really seen the town. Now that she was out, she realized the town was quite large, with beautiful scenery. There were people farming, and there was a school. The sound of students reading aloud came from the school, and the factory was just a street away from the school. Life and transportation here were very convenient.

It was truly a paradise.

Aurora stood by the river, looking into the distance, and asked, "Loren, which direction is Summer?"

This was Aurora's real purpose for the walk, to figure out the route.

Loren stood still, and took out a compass from his bag. After measuring, he pointed. "Mommy, southeast."

Aurora was a bit helpless. "You could just say upper left."

Women seemed to be naturally bad with directions. Aurora still hadn't figured out north, south, east, and west. She didn't even know where Loren had learned it.

Loren usually stayed in his room reading all sorts of books, and Aurora never asked about it.

Loren giggled and whispered, "Mommy, are you scouting for John? Does this make us corporate spies?"

"How could it be?" Before Aurora could finish her sentence, she suddenly saw someone sneaking out of the reeds and coming ashore.

"Loren." Aurora quickly pulled Loren to hide behind a large rock.

The guy coming ashore was young and skinny, looking around nervously before heading towards the dormitory.

Hank had the town running like clockwork, with the school, farmland, dorms, and factory all neatly separated.

"Mommy, that guy doesn't look like he's up to any good," Loren said. "Should we tell Lori or Bobcat?"

Aurora explained patiently, "Loren, we can't jump to conclusions. We're new here, and people might not trust us yet. Plus, we don't have any solid proof."

"Got it," Loren quickly caught on. "Catch a thief with the loot, catch an adulterer in the act."

Aurora's eyes widened. "Loren, who taught you that?"

Kids these days knew about catching adulterers in the act.

Loren, looking all innocent, blinked his big, bright eyes. "Todd, Mommy. I know about catching a thief with the loot, but what's catching an adulterer in the act mean?"

Aurora silently cursed Todd and forced a smile, blending truth and fiction. "It means the same as catching a thief; you need evidence, you can't just accuse without proof."

Loren thought for a moment and nodded. "Understood."

"Loren, let's head back first," Aurora quickly changed the subject, worried Loren would ask more questions.

Before they got inside, they ran into Hank. Hank saw Aurora and hesitated before giving a stiff smile. "Aurora."

Hank's face was so rigid that even his smile looked like a twitch, making him seem a bit scary.

Aurora guessed why Hank wanted to talk and said to Loren, "Loren, go inside first."

"Okay." Loren obediently passed by Hank and politely greeted him, "Bobcat."

"Good boy," Hank said with a twitchy smile, his eyes showing kindness, a stark contrast to his tense demeanor last night.

After Loren went inside, Aurora spoke first, "Bobcat, you wanted to see me."

"Yes." Hank seemed hesitant. He looked at Aurora's face, lost in thought, and asked, "How is your mom?"

"My mom passed away many years ago." Aurora knew this would hit Hank hard.

Sure enough, Hank looked like he'd been struck by lightning. He stumbled back a few steps, his emotions intense. "How did Wendy die?"

His tone and stance made it seem like he was ready to fight someone.

Aurora said, "My mom died of illness."

Hank found it hard to accept, his expression pained. "Wendy, how could you, how could you just..."

On the second-floor balcony, Lori, Ava, and Loren stood in a row, leaning against the railing, eating and watching Hank and Aurora below.

Lori said, "See, I was right. I told you Bobcat had a crush on my aunt."

Ava said, "I always thought Bobcat stayed single because he never met someone he liked."

Loren chimed in, "I really want to know the love story between Bobcat and Grandma."

Lori and Ava exchanged a glance, their eyes lighting up. They turned to Loren, "Loren, why don't you go and get some info from Bobcat?"

They were curious too.

Loren held out his hand, and Lori didn't get it. "What?"

"Running fee and info fee," Loren said with a greedy smile. "Lori, let me earn some extra cash."

Lori and Ava were frustrated. Like mother, like son. In the end, Lori and Loren agreed on a deal for ten thousand dollars. As soon as it got dark, Loren went to find Hank.

Lori planned to stay here for two days before taking Aurora to the headquarters.

Aurora heard that Loren went to find Hank but didn't pay much attention. She took out her phone to play some games.

It was almost nine at night, and Loren still hadn't returned. Aurora said, "Lori, go get Loren back. It's late, he should be in bed."

"Alright." Before Lori could leave, they suddenly heard footsteps outside, followed by a commotion.

Someone was shouting, "Someone's dead."

Something had happened.

Aurora quickly threw on a coat and went out, with Lori and Ava following swiftly.
