Chapter 80 John's Identity Exposed

Aurora was at the hospital, having come straight from the police department to see Jack.

She didn't mention anything about what had happened tonight, and her calm demeanor didn't raise any suspicions with Jack.

With surgery scheduled for tomorrow, Jack was pretty nervous.

"Sis, if I don't make it through the surgery tomorrow, don't cry. I don't want to see you sad," Jack said, trying to sound upbeat. "At worst, we'll be siblings again in the next life."

"Stop talking nonsense," Aurora shot him a look. "The surgery will go fine. Don't overthink it. Get some rest and be ready for tomorrow."

"I'm just saying if," Jack smiled, a mix of nonchalance and melancholy in his eyes.

Even with the expert surgeon William, there were risks. No one could guarantee he'd make it off the operating table.

"No ifs," Aurora said, tucking the blanket around him. "Now, go to sleep."

"Sis," Jack stared at her, his eyes dim and teary, but he forced a smile. "If something happens to me, can you find them for me? I just want to know why they abandoned me. Was it because they despised me?"

By "them," Jack meant his biological parents. For years, he had comforted himself, thinking it was his illness that led to his abandonment.

Aurora left Jack's ward close to midnight.

A cold wind blew, chilling her to the bone.

As she stepped down the stairs, she suddenly halted, her gaze fixing on John not far away.

John, leaning on a crutch, stood under the streetlight, smiling at her.

"John."

Aurora's heart stirred, and scenes from the car accident flooded her mind. She murmured and suddenly ran towards him.

With emotions running high, Aurora embraced John tightly, her eyelashes wet. "I was so afraid I wouldn't see you again."

Even though Todd had called, she wasn't reassured until she saw John with her own eyes.

When John stood alive in front of her, the emotions she had suppressed for so long finally burst forth.

Aurora hugged John tightly, feeling a lump in her throat, on the verge of tears.

"I'm back," John smiled, hugging her, wishing he could merge their souls. "I'm sorry for making you worry."

After a while, Aurora calmed down and pounded John's chest in frustration. "Why did you risk your life, John? You did it on purpose. If something had happened to you, did you want me to feel guilty forever?"

Aurora cried, still remembering the fear she was feeling at that time.

The feeling when the doctor issued a critical condition notice was still vivid. She was really afraid John would die or lose his leg.

"I'm sorry," John smiled, holding her hand.

"Do you think a simple sorry is enough?" Aurora looked unforgiving.

John suddenly coughed violently, his body swaying as if he couldn't stand.

"John, are you okay?" Aurora was frightened and quickly steadied him.

"Faking a limp almost turned into a real one. What do you think?" John quipped. "If I had really died or been crippled, it would have benefited Rex and his son."

Aurora was stunned, her gaze complex and shocked as she stared at John.

John was admitting it. He was the head of the Lewis Family, not some rideshare driver.

Aurora slowly released John, stepping back to create some distance between them.

Even though she had already guessed, it was still hard to believe when John confessed it himself.

"Aurora," John frowned deeply, starting to feel a bit panicked.

Aurora's eyes flickered, and she forced a smile, recalling the memories with John. She felt like a fool, deceived and toyed with.

Aurora sneered, "A billionaire rideshare driver?"

John was at a loss for words.

Aurora glanced at John's leg and face, gritting her teeth. "The rumored Mr. Lewis with a crippled leg and ruined face? You seem pretty agile, and your face looks quite unscathed."

John didn't argue.

Aurora was furious. "Weren't you supposed to have only a few years to live?"

John was speechless. "Aurora, it's all a misunderstanding. Let me explain."

"I don't want to hear it." Aurora turned away angrily, looking like she couldn't be appeased.

John moved in front of her again. "Aurora, I'm really sorry for deceiving you."

"I don't want to hear anything," Aurora covered her ears and turned away again.

John patiently explained, "Seeing my bride run away, I had no choice but to take this approach."

In other words, John had recognized her from the beginning.

Aurora felt utterly embarrassed, thinking about the things she had done in front of John.

Back at the villa' kitchen, she had even worried that John couldn't afford the bill.

It was also her fault for being too foolish, not seeing through all the inconsistencies.

Todd was the biggest clue.

How could the heir to Smith Media Group really be friends with an ordinary rideshare driver, running errands for him?

The Heart of the Goddess necklace John gave her, worth tens of thousands of dollars, was simply a testament to her own disbelief.

Ernest's company being acquired overnight was no coincidence.

And when Percy had someone kidnap her, and Percy's son lost a leg, it was all John protecting her and standing up for her.

Aurora felt a mix of anger and gratitude thinking about the past.

"Aurora, considering I almost lost a leg, can you forgive me?" John pleaded.

"Hah, do you need someone's forgiveness?" Aurora sneered. "Since you're fine, we're done. Bye, I'm going home to sleep."

Aurora's mind was in chaos. She felt that leaving was the best option for now.

As she took a step, her body was suddenly lifted. John picked her up.

Aurora instinctively wrapped her arms around John's neck, angrily saying, "John, put me down."

"No," John carried Aurora towards the car in a very domineering manner. "If I let you go this time, I really won't have another chance. Aurora, I know you can't tolerate any deception."

John was determined this time. No matter how Aurora reacted, he wouldn't let go. He would cling to her no matter what.

John placed Aurora in the car, noticing she didn't react at all. Looking down, he saw Aurora staring at him in a daze.

Aurora asked hesitantly, "John, why me?"

"I don't know either," John couldn't give a precise answer. "Maybe it's fate."

Otherwise, why did Aurora run into him when she escaped?

And that night, his car just happened to break down.

When everything was so coincidental, it was destiny.

Aurora was stunned, unable to find words to refute.

She wasn't ungrateful. She knew everything John had done for her.

A man willing to put his life on the line, there's no room to question.

Aurora was more surprised and incredulous that John would choose her, an imperfect person.

With just the two of them in the car, she leaned against John's chest, as if she could hear his heartbeat.

Aurora had deceived him too, so it was even.

"How did you find me here?"

"I know everything that happened tonight," John held her tightly. "Aurora, I will handle the rest. Those people who hurt you, I promise they will pay for what they have done."

He knew?

Aurora's heart tightened, feeling a sense of inferiority, unable to face John.

Aurora tried to leave John's embrace, but John seemed to read her mind and held her tighter, feeling her pain.

"Don't feel inferior about your imperfections, Aurora. Whatever your past is, I'm sure of you," John said firmly. "You are the wife I have chosen."

Chosen wife?

At that moment, Aurora felt tears welling up.
