Chapter 265 Return to the Family

Todd's words really set Lori off. She clenched her teeth and snapped, "Whether I get married or not is none of your business. Why do you even care?"

Todd rubbed his eyes, clearly too scared to say anything else.

Aurora and the others nearby kept their mouths shut, not wanting to get dragged into the drama.

Half an hour later, the wedding picked back up. This time, everything went smoothly, but you could still feel the awkwardness in the air.

After the ceremony, Amelia made an excuse about feeling unwell and left, while Daniel stuck around to entertain the guests.

Curious, Aurora asked Todd, "How did your family end up picking Daniel as a son-in-law?"

Everyone knew about Daniel's reputation, and the Smith family had to be aware of it too.

Todd glanced over at Daniel, who was putting on a show of being the perfect son-in-law for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and said, "Amelia was dead set on marrying him, so we didn't have much of a choice. Daniel's just using the Smith family's clout to make a name for himself in the Taylor family. If he pulls it off, it's a win-win."

The Taylor family was also a big deal in Silvercrest City. Marriages among the elite were never just about love.

Lori chimed in, "The richer people are, the more they care about appearances and fancy ceremonies. I can't stand marriages that are all about family status."

Todd shot back, "Ms. Hernandez, don't worry. No elite family would want someone like you as a daughter-in-law."

Lori was livid. "I don't care."

Todd smirked. "Sour grapes, huh? I get it."

"Damn it, Todd, you're doing this on purpose, aren't you?" Lori rolled up her sleeves, ready to take a swing at him.

Todd loved seeing Lori get riled up; it made him feel accomplished.

Aurora quickly intervened, "Lori, have some chicken legs, eat more. The soup's good too."

Couldn't they just have a peaceful meal for once?

"For your sake, Aurora, I won't argue with him." Lori calmed down and went back to eating.

After they finished their meal, Aurora and Lori left first. John stayed to drink with some friends, and Summer and Loren were taken back to the old house by Lloyd.

Back at the Meadowbrook villa, Lori asked, "Aurora, got any wine?"

Aurora was a bit surprised. Lori hadn't had a drop at the wedding but wanted to drink now. "Not in a good mood?"

Aurora glanced at Ava, who just shrugged, clueless about what was up with Lori.

"No, I just feel like having a drink." Lori said, "John must have some good wine. Aurora, bring out a few bottles for us to try."

"Alright, I'll get them," Aurora said without hesitation.

Ever since Lori mentioned leaving, Aurora felt something was off with her.

Her gut told her Lori must have found out something.

Maybe Lori overheard her conversation with Hank.

Aurora brought the wine and asked, "Want me to drink with you?"

Lori waved her off. "No, you're pregnant. Go to bed early. Ava can keep me company."

Ava nodded. "I'll stay with her."

"Alright, I'll go rest then." Aurora went back to her room and realized she hadn't seen Jack all day.

Since Jack got out, he'd been a different person, quiet and withdrawn.

Aurora called him, and Jack's voice sounded drunk. "Aurora, I'm out drinking with friends. I'll be back later."

Before Aurora could say a word, Jack hung up on her. She muttered to herself, "What's up with these two lately? They're acting so strange."

After washing up, Aurora thought about checking on Lori. As she reached the staircase, she overheard Ava saying, "Why don't you go see him? Mr. Lee said he wanted to see you and Jack."

Lori, sounding a bit tipsy, replied, "No, I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself and end up committing patricide."

Aurora's heart skipped a beat. So, Lori knew about her background.

Aurora didn't dwell on when Lori found out. The whole thing with Richard was like a heavy stone on Lori's heart, and this might be why Lori wanted to leave.

Aurora decided not to go over. If Lori didn't want her to know, she'd pretend she didn't.

She didn't know how much Lori drank that night, only that Lori drank until the early hours before passing out. John and Jack came back together, both reeking of alcohol.

Aurora pinched her nose and gently pushed John. "You stink. Go take a shower."

"A man needs a bit of a smell to be manly. Honey, let me hug you." John, drunk, acted like a child and wrapped his arms around Aurora's waist. "Come on, let me listen to what our daughter is doing."

"It's so late, your daughter is sleeping." Aurora was amused by his actions. "Go wash up, or at least change your clothes. You'll stink up our daughter."

"No washing, no changing. I just want to hold you like this, so our daughter recognizes her daddy's smell."

"Aren't you afraid she won't be close to you in the future?"

"My daughter will be close to me." John said, nuzzling Aurora, and in the next second, he fell asleep.

Aurora felt a bit helpless. She tried to push him, but he wouldn't wake up.

Drunk people were heavy, and Aurora eventually had to get the servants to help get John to bed.

A house full of three drunks.

It was the first time Aurora had seen them drunk.

The next day.

The 9th was the day Summer and Loren's identities would be publicly announced.

Even though John was drunk last night, he woke up early.

The entire Lewis family had been notified, and about a hundred people had gathered at the old house. Lloyd was already in the hall with Summer and Loren.

Aurora and John both dressed formally. By the time they arrived, most of the Lewis family was already there, including Wade and Rex, who had been invited.

Though Wade and Rex had been kicked out, they were still part of the Lewis family.

Summer and Loren, dressed in little suits and ties, looked handsome and adorable, lovely to everyone. The Lewis family members all praised them, saying they looked just like John when he was young, completely a mini version of John.

Their resemblance alone could silence many doubters, making a paternity test unnecessary.

As their mother, Aurora felt quite gratified and happy for them as she watched Summer and Loren stand beside Lloyd and have their identities announced.

After wandering for years, they finally returned to the family.

Her children were no longer fatherless and would no longer be discriminated against.

Summer and Loren were now officially renamed Summer Lewis and Loren Lewis.

At this moment, Aurora's phone rang. It was an unknown number. She walked a bit further to answer, "Hello, who is this?"

"Aurora, cherish what you have now, because soon, you will lose everything."
