Chapter 135 Getting Married on September 9
Lenora Mitchell had only been working at the Lewis Mansion for like three months, tops.
Lenora was acting all shady, which got Aurora super curious. "What's the deal?"
"Ms. White, come with me to Ms. Torres's room and you'll see," Lenora whispered, looking around like he was worried someone might hear.
Jane had gone downstairs, so Aurora's curiosity got the best of her, and she followed.
Lenora led Aurora to the bathroom, pulled out a black plastic bag from behind the toilet. It was stuffed with something. "Ms. White, check this out."
Lenora opened it, revealing used sanitary pads.
Aurora immediately recognized them. "These are Jane's?"
"This room is only used by Ms. Torres, and these are from the last few days," Lenora said. "If Ms. Torres is pregnant, how could she be menstruating?"
If she were pregnant, she wouldn't be menstruating. So, Jane wasn't pregnant.
But Jane had gone to the hospital with Helen for a check-up. How could she not be pregnant?
Jane's belly was definitely swollen.
Aurora thought for a moment. "Lenora, don't tell anyone about this. Keep it between us."
"Yes, Ms. White." Lenora knew Aurora would be the future mistress of the Lewis family and obeyed her completely.
To avoid suspicion, Aurora had Lenora put the bag back behind the toilet like nothing happened.
Jane came downstairs and saw John and Lloyd playing chess. She brought over a tray of coffee.
"Lloyd, John, I made some coffee. Try it," Jane said, looking all virtuous and graceful.
Lloyd loved coffee and was a bit thirsty. He took a sip and praised, "Not bad, Jane. Your coffee-making skills have improved."
"If you like it, I'll make it for you every day," Jane said, flattering Lloyd, and handed a cup to John. "John, try some."
The way she said "John" was annoying, and John responded coldly, "Just leave it there."
"Oh, okay." Jane put it down and sat beside them, watching them play chess. After a while, she felt thirsty and poured herself a cup.
Lloyd frowned. "Jane, you're pregnant. How can you drink coffee?"
"Huh?" Jane suddenly remembered she was supposed to be "pregnant." She panicked, especially under John's icy stare, which felt like invisible pressure.
"Lloyd, I was just really thirsty. A little bit shouldn't hurt. I'll be more careful next time."
"Alright." Lloyd stared at her belly. "You're carrying a Lewis Family child. As long as you give birth safely, we won't treat you poorly."
This was the first time Jane had received such a promise since her return.
Jane was overjoyed. "Thank you, Grandpa. I'll take good care of myself and the baby."
John said nothing, acting like an outsider.
Lloyd glanced at John's expression and said to Jane, "You should go rest."
"Yes, Grandpa." Jane reluctantly glanced at John before leaving.
After she left, Lloyd asked, "John, how do you plan to handle Jane? Even if you don't like her, she's carrying a Lewis Family child. You can discard Jane, but you must keep the child."
John smirked. "Grandpa, you've already decided for me. What else is there to do?"
Lloyd was momentarily speechless.
"John, your health is unpredictable. Can Dr. Collins cure you?"
"I ain't gonna die," John said, placing a white piece on the board. "Grandpa, you lost."
Lloyd looked at the board, not mad but laughing heartily at John's words. "Let's go another round."
Jane walked into the hall and saw Lenora coming down with the trash, her heart skipping a beat. "Lenora, did you clean my room?"
Lenora remembered Aurora's instructions and played it cool. "Yeah, Ms. Torres, it's been cleaned."
Seeing no reaction from Lenora, Jane secretly sighed in relief and said coldly, "Don't enter my room without my permission in the future."
"Yes."
Jane hurried back to her room and, finding everything still there, felt relieved.
Aurora was in her room, bored out of her mind and waiting. John hadn't come back yet.
She had already eaten the food Helen had sent and was feeling sleepy. She went to the balcony to wake herself up.
As she stretched, she saw Jane sneaking out with a bag and returning shortly after.
It was easy to guess what Jane was doing—destroying evidence.
Jane was quite bold, faking a pregnancy to fool everyone.
Aurora was curious to see what other tricks Jane had up her sleeve.
After standing on the balcony for a while, Aurora returned to her room, too sleepy to stay awake, and crashed.
In the middle of the night, Aurora felt the bed sink beside her and was pulled into someone's arms.
Aurora sniffed and recognized John's scent.
"You're back," Aurora, still half-asleep, mumbled like a lazy kitten, making John's heart ache.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" John didn't know Aurora had been waiting in the room.
Aurora snuggled closer to John. "Are you mad? Did Nicole's words get to you?"
Nicole had tried to off herself by ramming into a pillar, so determined, yet John still didn't let her go, ordering her to be sent to the police station once she regained consciousness. He did that because Nicole's words had really pissed him off.
John didn't respond, which was a form of acknowledgment.
Aurora woke up a bit more, opened her eyes to look at John. Without his mask, John was dazzling.
Once Lloyd's birthday celebration was over and The Lewis family was reorganized, John wouldn't have to pretend to be crippled and disfigured. He was a favored child of the heavens, with an innate noble aura. Once the disguise was removed, his brilliance would be fully revealed.
"John, there's something I want to tell you about Summer and Loren..." Aurora had been thinking about how to explain the situation with Summer and Loren and her suspicions on the way here.
"Aurora, I've picked a date. Let's get married," John gently interrupted Aurora, "You were always meant to be my bride. The previous wedding wasn't completed, so this time, I'll give you an even grander wedding. We will hold the wedding on September 9th, what do you think?"
Aurora was stunned.
This time, John wasn't just talking about marriage; he had made preparations and even chosen a date.
"John, I..." Aurora was about to speak when her phone on the bedside table rang.
Seeing the caller ID, Aurora immediately jumped out of bed.
