Chapter 163 A Hundred Million for a Life

Wearing those old clothes, Wade felt like he had bugs crawling all over him. But if he didn't wear them, people would think he was a beggar.

Rex had never been humiliated like this before. They had clothes, but no shoes. Both of them were used to living the high life, with soft, delicate skin. It didn't take long for their feet to get covered in blisters.

Rex couldn't walk any further. They tried to hail a cab, but none would stop.

Wade's feet were just as bad, bleeding and leaving a trail of blood wherever he went.

"Wade, I can't walk anymore. Call your friends and get someone to pick us up."

Rex sat on the ground, staring at the blisters on his feet, looking pitiful.

Their phones had been confiscated, so how could they make a call?

Wade had some pride at first, but his feet were already raw. Every step felt like walking on knives. To make things worse, he stepped in dog poop, and the stench made him gag.

"Damn it!" Wade angrily wiped the dog poop off his foot on the grass, pinching his nose, but he couldn't help but vomit.

Wade let out a growl. As someone obsessed with cleanliness, he couldn't stand stepping in dog poop.

Rex pinched his nose and instinctively moved away from Wade, looking disgusted.

Wade stopped walking and tried to borrow a phone from passersby. He asked four people, but no one was willing to lend him one. Instead, they treated him like a scammer, pinching their noses at the smell of dog poop and walking away while mocking him.

"Smells awful, how long hasn't he bathed?"

"Scammers these days have all sorts of tricks."

"Let's go, he looks suspicious."

"He looks like a lunatic, probably escaped from a mental hospital."

Wade felt a strong sense of depression. Did he look like a scammer? Did he look like a lunatic?

Wade was furious, hands on his hips, and cursed, "You're the lunatics!"

Wade was really angry, completely disregarding his image.

Seeing this scene, passersby were startled and took a detour.

Rex said earnestly, "Wade, we are the Lewis family. The Lewis Family is the top of the four major families in SilverCrest City, the aristocrats at the top of the pyramid. As a member of the Lewis Family, you must always maintain your gentlemanly demeanor and stay calm. How can you stoop to the level of these poor people?"

Wade really wanted to curse, but he held back.

They were already in such a dire situation, yet Rex was talking about gentlemanly demeanor. There was no demeanor left at all, only the cold wind.

Complaining was useless; the urgent matter was to get back.

Wade regained his composure and let his anger settle.

Two young women, seeming in their twenties, walked by.

Wade immediately straightened his clothes and put on a gentle smile as he approached, "Miss, could you do me a favor? Could you lend me your phone to make a call? I'll return it right away."

Wade was handsome and had a warm smile. Under normal circumstances, he would have charmed many women.

The woman cursed, "Stay away from me!"

Her companion said, "Don't bother with this lunatic. They are clearly crazy."

The two women walked away, still cursing.

Wade's face turned ugly again.

After several failures, Wade got smarter. When the next passerby came, he offered his lighter worth tens of thousands of dollars. "This lighter is yours if you lend me your phone. Look, this lighter is worth over twenty thousand dollars. You can sell it for that much."

The guy saw the value in the lighter and quickly agreed. "Deal."

Feeling a bit smug, Wade took the phone and called his best friend. "Mike, it's Wade. I'm in a jam. Can you come get me? I'm at..."

"Wade, don't put me in a tough spot. John has already warned everyone. Helping you means going against him."

"But you're my best friend, you..."

The call cut off.

Wade was livid and smashed the phone.

"Hey, my phone! That cost me five grand!" The guy looked at the broken phone, heartbroken.

Wade glared at him, eyes bloodshot. The guy, scared, grabbed the lighter and muttered, "What a nutcase," before running off.

Rex asked, "Wade, what happened? What did your friend say?"

"John's already warned everyone. No one dares to help."

Wade fumed, "Those bastards, all buddy-buddy when things are good, but vanish when it counts."

This was reality. Kicking someone when they were down. Everything Wade and Rex did after leaving the Lewis Mansion was reported to John.

John took a sip of tea and said nothing. Lloyd, listening nearby, said earnestly, "It's good for them to suffer a bit. Hopefully, they can turn over a new leaf."

Meanwhile, the police also arrested Emily.

Facing police interrogation, Emily refused to admit anything.

Later, the police found the vase Emily used to hit Helen. After fingerprint identification, Emily had nothing to say but started to defend herself, "It was self-defense. Helen attacked me first."

"Not a word of truth from your mouth," the police sneered. "Emily, no matter how you argue, the fact that you hurt Helen is established. Prepare to spend the rest of your life in prison."

Emily argued emotionally but refused to reveal her motive for hurting Helen.

Even if she went to prison, Emily would keep the secret, not letting Aurora live a good life.

The next day, Aurora rested for a night, and the back pain was gone.

The medicine Lori gave was truly miraculous.

Aurora talked to John on the phone and learned about Emily's arrest. She felt no particular emotion. No sympathy, and too lazy to hate.

Rather than hating enemies, it was better to cherish those around her.

After breakfast, Aurora went out with Lori.

Aurora was going to the hospital to visit Helen while Lori was curious about Aurora's lover. Who could make Fox from the Shadow of Darkness organization jealous and try to kill Aurora?

Lori asked, "Aurora, what does your man look like? Who is he?"

Aurora smiled, "You'll see soon. By the way, don't tell him about last night. His mom is in the hospital, and he's already overwhelmed. As for rivals in love, that's a woman's business to handle."

"You're so considerate of your boyfriend. You must really love him. Now I'm even more curious about him."

Aurora smiled.

Just as they left the Robinson family's, Lori received a call from her colleague, and her expression turned serious.

"Okay, I'll be right there."

After hanging up, Lori said, "Aurora, I can't go with you. I have a mission right now."

Aurora understood. After all, Lori had important work to do.

She didn't ask further and parked by the roadside. "Stay safe."

"Don't worry, I haven't met anyone who can beat me yet." Lori was very confident.

After getting out of the car, Lori called her colleague back.

"Who's the target this time?"

Her colleague's cold voice came through the phone, "John Lewis from the Lewis Group. Someone paid a hundred million for his life."

"Damn, that's a lot of money." Lori chuckled darkly. "I'll take this mission."
