Chapter 266 The Baby's Gender
Aurora was totally thrown off by the voice on the other end of the call; she had no clue who it was.
Butnot many people had the guts to threaten her, and whoever this was, they definitely weren't friendly. Aurora tightened her grip on the phone, a smirk creeping across her face. "Yeah, talk is cheap. I don't take keyboard warriors seriously. If you've got the guts, come at me face-to-face."
The voice over the phone got more aggressive. "Aurora, don't get too full of yourself. Whatever you did to me, you're gonna get it back."
While on the call, Aurora spotted Tyler and quickly signaled for him to come over and trace the unknown number immediately.
Tyler was a pro at tracking people down. He nodded and started working on his laptop.
Aurora and Tyler used hand signals to communicate, indicating that Aurora would stall the caller while Tyler traced the number.
Aurora couldn't figure out who the caller was; the voice was altered through certain technique, making it hard to tell if it was a man or a woman.
So, she decided to provoke the caller to get more info, rolling her eyes. "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots. But honestly, what can I say? I'm just so lucky to have a husband who spoils me with all kinds of designer jewelry and can't keep his hands off me. He even said he wants to buy a star and name it after me. I guess I'll just have to graciously accept."
"Aurora, you bitch," the person on the other end spat, clearly pissed off, "I will make you pay."
Aurora taunted, smirking. "I'm ready anytime. Threatening someone over the phone? That's just pathetic. Your sister was way better at this when she was alive. Oh, and you'd better have a stronger will than she did. If you end up offing yourself, don't pin it on me."
With that, the call ended.
Aurora stared at her phone, muttering, "Is that all you've got?"
Aurora was just testing; she didn't know who the caller was, but Sandra was the most likely suspect. This test made her more certain it was Sandra.
Aurora asked Tyler, "Did you trace it?"
"Yes, I did," Tyler said, looking up from his laptop. "The call came from a small town in Aurora Isles."
"She's not in Silvercrest City or Lumoria. Why is she in Aurora Isles?" Aurora muttered, then asked, "Does The Shadow of Darkness organization have a branch in Aurora Isles?"
"The Shadow of Darkness organization does most of its business in Aurora Isles," Tyler replied, raising an eyebrow. "Mrs. Lewis, why are you asking?"
"Just curious," Aurora said, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "Does the Nightfall have any business in Aurora Isles?"
Tyler nodded. "Yes, a couple of years ago, Mr. Lewis personally acquired several transport routes there. Anyone passing through our territory has to pay."
Aurora remarked, "Aurora Isles is the largest transportation hub. Controlling even one route is enough to live off for generations. You guys control several; that's truly impressive." This was no less significant than Alexander's oil fields and gold mines abroad.
Tyler grinned, "Mr. Lewis has a keen eye and strong methods. He put in a lot of effort to secure those routes."
Aurora nodded and then instructed, "Keep an eye on that area for me, especially The Shadow of Darkness organization."
Tyler answered, "No problem."
Aurora's orders were equivalent to John's . They could execute them straritforward without further approval from John.
Aurora didn't completely dismiss Sandra's threatening call. Sandra's face was scarred, and Jennifer had passed away. Sandra's hatred for her must have intensified.
Aurora used to deal with Sandra without hesitation, but now she had some concerns. Alexander had lost one daughter; he couldn't afford to lose another.
After the call, Aurora went back to John's side. The ceremony was wrapping up.
John leaned in and asked quietly, "Who was on the phone?"
"It was probably Sandra," Aurora said casually, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Just calling to chat."
John knew Sandra wasn't calling for a friendly chat. She was trouble. As long as she didn't mess with Aurora, he could let it slide. But if she became a threat, he wouldn't hesitate to act.
John said, "After the ceremony, let's go for a prenatal checkup." Aurora hadn't had one in a while.
"Sure," Aurora said, suddenly curious. "How about we find out the baby's gender?"
John didn't really care about knowing the gender before birth, but he remembered Aurora's bet with Lori and chuckled, "Alright, I'm also looking forward to seeing Todd get confessed to."
They shared a smile, both thinking the same thing.
After the identity announcement, it was already noon. Lloyd still had to bathe the two kids, and Aurora and John left the old house by car.
At the intersection, they saw Rex and Wade waiting for the bus.
During the ceremony, Rex and Wade had kept a low profile, almost invisible, standing in the farthest corner. Normally, they would have been ridiculed, but today was Summer and Loren's big day, so no one bothered them.
"John, should we give them a ride?" Aurora asked, glancing at John.
John was about to respond when they saw Lucas's car pull up to Rex and Wade.
Lucas probably intended to offer them a ride, but they refused, so he drove off.
The bus arrived, and the father and son got on.
Aurora smiled with a hint of admiration, "They've got some pride."
"Let's go eat first," John said, not commenting further.
Normally, pregnant women shouldn't go hungry; it made them nauseous. Aurora had even greater needs with two babies .
After lunch, they headed to the hospital. John had already made arrangements; Aurora just needed to show up for the checkup.
Coincidentally, Emily was also at the hospital, having given birth to a baby girl the previous night.
As Aurora and John stepped out of the elevator, they heard a commotion in the hallway.
"I was supposed to have a boy. How did it turn into a girl? You must have switched the babies!" Emily screamed, her voice echoing in the corridor.
"Ms. White, you really did give birth to a girl. How could we switch the babies?" the doctor hurriedly explained.
Aurora peeked and saw Emily in a hospital gown, barefoot and causing a scene. Having just given birth, she was extremely weak, pale, and could barely stand.
"It was supposed to be a boy, not a girl. I told Daniel it was a son. Now it's a daughter; he'll think I lied to him," Emily cried helplessly and anxiously on the floor. The baby was her only chance to turn things around, and now even that chance was gone.
The doctor tried to console her, "This is your own child. How could you not love her? Girls are wonderful. Ms. White, please calm down and go back to your room. You don't want to risk any postpartum complications."
Percy arrived and managed to get Emily back to her ward.
After witnessing Emily's situation, Aurora felt anxious during her checkup. If the expected daughters turned out to be two sons, John would have to do a strip dance.
Lying on the examination table, Aurora kept glancing at the monitor, and John was also staring intently.
"Doctor, how are the babies?" John asked, his voice tense.
"They're all healthy," the doctor said, "But it looks like they're not girls."
