Chapter 171 Her First Time Failing

Aurora couldn't help but wonder how Lori had managed to survive this long.

Someone had paid to have her killed, and Aurora was taking it seriously.

If the hitman wasn't Lori, and if Aurora wasn't Lori's cousin, she might've been dead the moment she stepped out the door.

Aurora quickly ran through her mind, trying to figure out who would want her dead.

"Lori, can you find out who's gunning for me?" Aurora's eyes narrowed. She wasn't about to forget this.

"It's a bit complicated, Aurora. Got time for breakfast?"

"Sure." Aurora hopped out of bed. "Send me the address."

Lori texted her the address. After a quick wash and change, Aurora threw on some sunglasses and headed out.

Who knew how many people were out to get her? She had to stay low-key.

As soon as Aurora went downstairs, Jennifer came out of the kitchen with a smile, "Ms. White, join us for breakfast."

Aurora glanced at the table. Jennifer had only set two places, clearly not for her. The other one must be for John.

Aurora smiled and said, "No thanks, I have plans. Ms. Johnson, you just got back. You should catch up with John."

Jennifer paused, not expecting Aurora to be so chill.

Just then, John came back from his morning run. Aurora saw him and held out her hand. "Give me a car key, I need to go out."

John asked, "Where to? I'll have Sam drive you."

Thinking she was meeting Lori, Aurora waved him off. "No need, I'll go myself. You have breakfast with Ms. Johnson."

John was puzzled that Aurora was jealous last night but so generous today.

John had Sam bring the car keys. Aurora took them and was about to leave when John grabbed her arm.

Aurora was puzzled. "Anything else?"

Aurora really didn't get it!

John leaned in. "Aurora, did you forget something?"

The hint was obvious.

With a smile, she stood on tiptoe and kissed John on the cheek. "Is that okay?"

Such an intimate act early in the morning, weren't they afraid of making Jennifer faint again?

Seeing this, Jennifer's face stayed neutral, but she looked away, her eyes dimming.

John, having received his kiss, was in a good mood and reminded her, "Be safe."

"Nagging, even my dad isn't this talkative." Aurora waved. "I'm off."

Aurora's figure was quite dashing. John stood at the door and watched her leave, his eyes filled with gentleness.

After Aurora left, John went to the dining room. He glanced at the breakfast on the table and said, "Leave this stuff to the servants in the future. You're not in good health, don't overwork yourself."

"There's nothing else to do, and it's not tiring to do this." Jennifer smiled lightly, "I haven't cooked for you in years. I just wanted to make you a meal."

"Okay."

John sat down to eat, his every move elegant and gentlemanly, very pleasing.

Jennifer watched, somewhat entranced. John was a favored son of heaven, the most perfect man she had ever seen.

"John, how long have you known Ms. White?" Jennifer asked, though she already knew. She had looked into everything about Aurora and John.

"Over half a year." John replied.

"I can see you really like her." Jennifer said with a bit of bitterness, "Ms. White is cheerful, humorous, and fun, like a warm little sun, making you warmer than before."

John paused. At the mention of Aurora, his lips involuntarily curved up. "Really? Aurora is sometimes a bit mischievous and temperamental, but she's still adorable. My life only gained color after meeting her."

Such high praise made Jennifer feel jealous, insanely jealous.

But she knew John well. He was fiercely protective of his inner circle. If anyone dared to mess with Aurora, he'd crush them without a second thought.

Jennifer smiled, "Ms. White is indeed interesting. With her by your side, I'm relieved."

Flavor Haven.

Lori and Ava found a seat and ordered breakfast, waiting for Aurora.

About ten minutes later, Aurora showed up.

"Aurora, over here!" Lori waved like a maniac, afraid Aurora wouldn't spot her.

Aurora cautiously looked around and walked over.

Lori teased, "Aurora, why are you wearing those hideous sunglasses?"

Aurora replied, "Didn't you say someone wants to kill me? I have to disguise myself. What if they know you're unreliable and hired someone else?"

Lori snapped her fingers in sudden realization. "Smart."

Aurora took off her sunglasses and noticed Ava sitting next to Lori.

Lori introduced, "Aurora, this is my best partner and friend, Ava."

Aurora stared at Ava, a bit dreamy, "Lori, your partner is so good-looking. I thought people in your line of work were all burly and fierce."

Such a cute Ava, who would guess she's a skilled martial artist?

Lori proudly explained, "Beauty is the sharpest weapon. Without some looks, how could we blend in? When stealing trade secrets or going undercover, this face comes in handy."

"Back to business." Aurora asked, "Is the person who wants me dead from the Shadow of Darkness organization?"

On the way here, Aurora had thought about it. Previously, a woman called Fox from the Shadow of Darkness organization had tried to assassinate her but failed. The Shadow of Darkness organization was the most suspicious.

Lori looked at Aurora with admiration, "Aurora, you're so smart. You guessed right. It's someone from it. Fox is the prime suspect. When we took the job, the client was anonymous, but I have my own channels to find out the employer's information. We can't just blindly do things for people."

"Even without thinking, it's obvious. You beat up Fox before, and now Fox is paying you to kill me, killing two birds with one stone." Aurora laughed, "That's a vicious move."

Lori grinned wickedly, "So I plan to just take the money. Only fools don't want money without effort."

Aurora held up five fingers. "Fifty-fifty split."

Lori was speechless.

"Aurora, that bracelet on your hand is worth millions. You're so rich."

"Sixty-forty split."

"Aurora..."

"Seventy-thirty split."

Lori quickly covered Aurora's hand, feeling a bit heartbroken, "Deal."

Aurora laughed, and Lori sighed, "Aurora, you're so stingy. This meal is on you."

"Weren't you the one who invited me for breakfast?" Aurora asked.

Lori slumped in her chair and grabbed a pillow, "I'm taking a break. You guys eat."

Lori's dark circles were showing.

Seeing Lori's tiredness and exhaustion, Aurora turned to ask Ava, "What did you guys do last night? You look like you didn't sleep at all."

Ava said, "We were chased all night."

Aurora got excited. "Who was bold enough to chase you guys?"

Lori opened her eyes and said mournfully, "We took a job, a hundred million dollars to kill someone. We went last night but failed."

When Lori talked about it, she felt very frustrated; it was her first time failing, and what made her even more frustrated was that they had been chased all night by a group of people who couldn't catch them but wouldn't give up, making it hard for them to shake them off.

"A hundred million? Whose life is worth more than mine?" Aurora was displeased. Her life was only worth ten million.

Lori, with her dark circles, said, "John Lewis in SilverCrest City's Lewis Group."

Hearing this, Aurora spat out her coffee.
