Chapter 119 Discovering Jane's Secret
Jane had spotted Helen ages ago and deliberately set Aurora up.
Aurora was blindsided and didn't see Jane's move coming.
When Jane accused Aurora of pushing her, Helen looked at Aurora and said firmly, "No way. Aurora wouldn't do that. Let's get you to the hospital first."
Jane cursed internally but kept her cool, crying out, "It hurts, Mom. My belly really hurts."
"James, get the car!" Helen shouted.
Everyone scrambled, and they finally got Jane to the hospital.
Even though Helen trusted her, Aurora was still fuming. She opened the door and threw the fruit Jane had given her at John.
"You're sneaky, tricking me into coming here to clean up your mess," she growled.
"Calm down, Aurora," John said with a grin, catching the fruit and taking a bite.
Aurora sneered, "Jane sent it. Does it taste extra sweet?"
"Jealous?" John asked, amused. Seeing Aurora jealous was rare.
John knew about the earlier drama at the door.
"No," Aurora snapped. "Jane's using her pregnancy to mess with me."
"Don't worry, my mom won't buy it," John said, pulling Aurora close. "In two weeks, it will be Grandpa's seventieth birthday. Wade and the others will definitely make a move then."
Aurora looked at John. "Aren't you the leader of Nightfall? Why not just take a few guys and deal with them?"
"Grandpa made me promise not to harm any family members, no matter how bad things get," John said, playing with Aurora's hair. "Are you scared?"
"I'm not scared," Aurora said. "Besides, you'll back me up."
Aurora knew John well. The Lewis Group was a century-old business, and the bigger the family, the messier it got. If John wanted to reform the company, he'd have to step on some toes. No one wanted to lose their perks, so his path would be tough.
John held Aurora's hand, his gaze soft. "Jane's no big deal. Don't let her get to you."
Aurora's eyes lit up. "You mean it?"
John nodded and tapped her nose. "Your future husband will always have women around, so you'll have to work hard, Aurora."
Since John was at the top, he wouldn't lack women throwing themselves at him. Without trust, their relationship wouldn't last.
Aurora thought for a moment and smiled. "With my charm, isn't it you who'll have to work harder?"
John had no comeback. He'd seen Aurora's charm. At the last family event, the way men looked at her made him want to gouge their eyes out.
"I feel like I should hide you away so no one else can think about you." John's possessiveness kicked in. "Aurora, my chest hurts a bit. Feel it if you don't believe me."
Aurora smiled and pushed John away. "You rest up. I'm heading to the hospital to check on Jane. If anything happens to her baby, the Lewis family will blame me."
"Anyone who tries to hurt you, I'll deal with them," John said, his tone calm but deadly serious. He had put Aurora in a high position within the Lewis family and wouldn't let her be harmed.
Aurora knew John meant it.
At the hospital, Jane went through a bunch of tests. The baby was fine, but she had to stay overnight for observation.
Lying in bed, Jane looked pale and turned to Helen. "Mom, I'm sorry for worrying you."
After all the drama at the Lewis family, neither Lloyd nor John showed up, making Jane feel insecure. Did the Lewis family really not accept her?
"As long as you're okay. Just take care of yourself," Helen said kindly but kept a bit of distance, even sounding formal.
Helen had mixed feelings. The doctor said the baby was fine and might even be a boy, which could mean she would have a grandson.
Jane noticed Helen's expression and said pitifully, "Mom, do the family members not like me? Do they not accept this child? Now that the Lewis family has Ms. White, I feel like an outsider, and it seems Ms. White doesn't like me."
"You're overthinking it," Helen interrupted. "Aurora wouldn't push you. She's not that kind of person."
Helen's trust in Aurora made Jane jealous.
Jane awkwardly said, "Mom, I was just scared and thought Ms. White pushed me. I'm sorry, she really didn't."
Jane realized badmouthing Aurora would only provoke Helen.
If she wanted to stay in the Lewis family, she couldn't openly oppose Aurora.
She had only been gone a few months and didn't know what Aurora had done to win over both John and Helen.
Helen's expression softened. "I told you Aurora wouldn't do that. Jane, take care of yourself. I'll head back now. If you need anything, call the nurse."
Hearing Helen was leaving, Jane felt even more disheartened.
The Lewis family didn't take her seriously, making her feel embarrassed.
"Mom," Jane struggled to sit up.
Helen called the nurse, "Nurse Lopez, please take care of Ms. Torres."
Then she smiled at Jane. "Take care of yourself."
Ms. Torres?
That completely excluded Jane from being part of the Lewis family.
Helen handed Jane over to the nurse and left.
Jane clenched her fists in anger, her eyes filled with resentment.
'Helen, how dare you treat me like this? I'll make you and the Lewis family regret it,' she silently swore.
As soon as Helen left, Aurora arrived, just missing her at the hospital entrance. Aurora found out which room Jane was in and went straight to the inpatient department. But when Aurora reached the room and opened the door, no one was inside except for the nurse tidying up.
Aurora asked, "Excuse me, where is Ms. Torres?"
"Ms. Torres went to the restroom."
"Okay, thank you."
Aurora walked towards the restroom and saw Jane hurrying in the opposite direction. Aurora was puzzled and followed her.
