Chapter 249 Wendy's Daring Life

When John ran out of the hospital, Aurora was already nowhere to be seen.

Since Aurora took the stairs while John took the elevator, he ended up leaving the hospital a step ahead of Aurora.

The two appeared at the hospital entrance one after the other, and by a twist of fate, one turned left and the other turned right.

John tried to call Aurora, yet she didn't answer.

Aurora walked on the street, feeling very conflicted and didn't know how to face John. After all, she couldn't just pretend nothing had happened.

At this moment, a sharp car horn sounded behind her. At first, Aurora just moved to the side and ignored it.

Then the car horn sounded again, while a sedan followed her.

Aurora stopped, then squatted down a bit to look into the car.

The rear window rolled down, and Alexander's head popped out with a quite bright smile on his face. "Aurora, get in the car. I'll take you for a ride."

Aurora was speechless and even more annoyed.

Her stepfather tormented her in the first half of her life, and her biological father tormented her in the second half. Her life was truly unlucky.

Yet no matter how bad Alexander was, he was still her biological father, the man her mother always thought about.

When her mother was young, he was the one she secretly cherished and felt sad about.

Thinking of that, Aurora took a deep breath, then walked over to open the car door. "Move over."

Alexander paused for a moment initially as he didn't expect Aurora to get in his car.

After a slight surprise, Alexander quickly moved over with joy, leaving a large space for Aurora.

After Aurora got in, Alexander became very nervous. He had two other daughters, Sandra and Jennifer, but the feelings were different. Aurora was born to the woman he loved the most, and this was the first time that he and Aurora sat together since the truth about their relationship came out.

"Where to?" Alexander couldn't hide his joy and tried to please Aurora.

Aurora just took a glance at him. "Didn't you say you were taking me for a ride?"

"Yes, a ride." Alexander slapped the driver's head. "What are you waiting for? Drive."

"Yes, Mr. Johnson."

With that, the driver immediately stepped on the gas, accelerating quickly and Alexander slapped the driver's head again. "Drive slower, my daughter is pregnant."

"Yes, Mr. Johnson."

Then the driver drove at a snail's pace, getting honked at countless times by the cars behind.

Aurora couldn't stand it. "Just find a spot by the beach up ahead and park."

Silvercrest City was already winter, and the sea breeze was bone-chilling.

As soon as Aurora got out of the car, the wind messed up her hair and clothes, almost blowing her away.

Aurora felt quite helpless, and, after hesitating for a moment, she got back in the car. "Forget it, let's stay in the car."

"Aurora, here, put this on." Alexander considerately took off his coat and draped it over Aurora.

Aurora looked at the coat. "Never mind, it's warm in the car. By the way, you sit in the front. I need to talk to you."

Since she was his biological daughter, even if her tone wasn't good, Alexander was still happy to listen to her.

If anyone else had ordered Alexander around like that, he would immediately have them killed.

Alexander then kicked the driver out and sat in the front seat himself.

The car was big, and with the two of them sitting four feet apart, it was a good distance for a conversation.

"Aurora, want something to drink?" Alexander had prepared some snacks and drinks in the car.

"Got any milk?"

"Yes."

"Milk then."

Alexander quickly grabbed a bottle of milk, inserted a straw, and handed it to Aurora.

Aurora placed one hand on a small table and held the milk with the other. "Didn't you say you didn't like my mom? That even if she were the last woman on earth, you still wouldn't fall in love with her? That you always had plenty of women around and my mom wasn't gentle or virtuous. So how did you end up having me?"

Wasn't this making things awkward for himself?

Alexander was so embarrassed he wished he could immediately disappear. "Men have their pride too."

"So you admit you were lying before?"

Alexander began to wrestle with inner turmoil.

If he admitted it, it would mean admitting he was wrong, yet he really didn't want to as he was always arrogant and self-important; how could he admit he was wrong?

But if admitting his mistake could bring Wendy back to life, he would even kneel down and admit it.

But in this world, there is everything except "if."

Alexander pondered and said, "Aurora, your mom may not have been gentle or considerate, but I liked her personality."

"You say that, but after she passed away, you quickly found a new lover."

"I was just angry with your mom. I wanted her to stay, but she wouldn't. When I tried to forget her, she came to The Shadow of Darkness organization to provoke me. It was maddening." Alexander's tone was filled with a mix of love and resentment as he spoke of the past.

Aurora could hear the love-hate tone in Alexander's voice. "Before my mom passed away, she called you, but your new lover answered the phone, which made my mom even sicker and led to her early death."

Talking about this made Aurora feel a pang in her heart. She felt indignant for her mother and wanted to slap Alexander.

But she was his daughter; she couldn't do that.

Hearing her words, Alexander's eyes widened, and his eyes turned red, his voice trembling. "Your mom, had she really called me?"

"Yes, my mom also wrote you ninety-six letters over eight years, one every month, but she never dared to send them. She kept them all."

Every word Aurora said hit a nerve.

Alexander, in his fifties, suddenly started crying, tears streaming down his face. "I always thought your mom liked Richard. She never told me her feelings. Your mom was so cruel, deceiving me for a lifetime."

Alexander's heart was in agony. At his age, the knife of love was sharpened by time, and it cut deeper, hurting him more.

After the pain, nothing left but regret.

Regret, the most consuming and helpless feeling. With Wendy's gone, how could he make amends?

In the end, their story was a tragedy.

Alexander began to list Wendy's faults. "Your mom was as hard-hearted as a rock. She couldn't fight, but she never lost in wit and intelligence. I don't know how many times she tricked me. When she got pregnant with you, I thought she had ulterior motives, trying to get The Shadow of Darkness organization secrets to help Richard."

Yet the more Alexander listed, the more he felt pained.

Aurora couldn't help but defend her mother. "Both of you should be responsible. My mom didn't even feel wrong, yet you still feel wronged?"

Hearing her words, Alexander became more agitated. "That's because your mom, well, bullied me."

If it weren't for certain words being too explicit and inappropriate, damaging his pride, Alexander wouldn't have used the word "bullied."

Aurora even spat out her milk, feeling quite shocked. Seeing Alexander's expression, as if he were a wronged little girl, Aurora couldn't help but admire her mother. She was truly formidable. "You're a man, couldn't you fight back?"

Alexander sighed and smiled bitterly. "I liked your mom. This might have been my only chance to be with her. Even if it meant giving her all the secrets of The Shadow of Darkness organization, I would have done it willingly. I built The Shadow of Darkness organization as a gift for her, but I never got to give it to her."
