Chapter 192 Conclusive High-Definition Photos

Helen put her hands on her legs and said seriously, "John, your dad came to me in a dream. He said if you don't marry Jennifer this year, something bad will happen."

John frowned. "Come on, Mom. This is the 21st century. You can't be serious."

"You and Jennifer have been together forever. Didn't you say you wanted to marry her?" Helen asked. "John, am I forgetting something? I really can't remember the past few years."

Helen tried to think back, but it just made her head hurt.

John's frown deepened. "Jennifer and I are over."

Right at that moment, Jennifer walked back to the ward with a water jug and froze when she heard him.

Helen pouted and complained, "You young folks don't take relationships seriously at all. When you're in love, you'd die for it, but when you're not, you just let it go."

John felt exasperated. "Mom, I'm your son."

"So what? Can't I speak my mind?" Helen glared at him. "What's wrong with Jennifer? She's smart, kind, gentle, and beautiful. Except for her family background, she's better than those rich girls you hang out with. Trust me, Jennifer's the one you should marry."

John reminded her, "Mom, before your accident, you really liked Aurora."

Helen shot back, "No way."

"I saw you having a great time playing mahjong with her just now."

"I..." Helen hesitated. "I didn't know she was Aurora. Anyway, Aurora's fun and all, but marrying her is a different story."

Seeing Helen's stubbornness, John decided to drop it. "Alright, just take care of yourself. I have to get back to work."

"John, you're leaving again?" Helen said, "Just like when you were a kid, always finding excuses when you can't win an argument."

Hearing that John was leaving, Jennifer walked in with the water jug and smiled gently, "John, I brought the water."

"Thanks, Jennifer," John said, taking the jug. "Please look after my mom while I'm gone. I have some urgent work at the company that I need to handle."

"John, are you free tonight?" Jennifer asked anxiously, "Can we have dinner together?"

"Tonight, I might..."

Before John could refuse, Jennifer smiled and said, "I've booked a table at Crescent Restaurant for 8 PM. Today is my birthday."

The old John would never forget this day. But now, without Jennifer's reminder, he really had forgotten.

Seeing the longing in Jennifer's eyes, John softened and said, "Alright."

Jennifer was overjoyed. After John left, Helen said, "Jennifer, love and men are things you have to fight for yourself."

"Yes, thank you, Helen." Jennifer was in a good mood. "Helen, why don't you lie down? I'll give you a massage."

Meanwhile, Aurora was bored in the ward, munching on fruit and enjoying Loren's attentive massage.

"Mommy, how's my massage?" Loren asked, massaging Aurora's shoulders with a serious expression.

"Not bad, not bad. Loren, you make it all worth it," Aurora said, taking another bite of her apple. "It's a pity I couldn't see Summer this time. It's been a while since Summer left, and he didn't call me once."

"Mommy, Summer is in training. Uncle Smith said that during training, there's no contact with the outside world."

"Really? That strict?" Aurora felt heartbroken instantly.

Summer was only five, still at that age where he needed his parents' love and care. Aurora couldn't help but wonder if sending him to training was the right call.

After visiting Helen, John headed straight to Aurora's ward. The whole "company business" thing was just a cover.

Ashley dropped by around noon to see Aurora and took Loren back with her.

John spent the entire day with Aurora. Around six in the evening, he hesitated and said, "Aurora, I have a favor to ask. I hope you'll say yes."

So formal? That was odd.

Aurora sat cross-legged on the bed, still munching away. "Spit it out!"

"Jennifer invited me to dinner at Crescent Restaurant at 8 PM," John said clearly. "It's her birthday today."

Aurora's eyes widened. "Celebrating an ex-girlfriend's birthday? John, do you even hear yourself? No way."

"Aurora, please believe me. I don't want to go," John said, trying to be sincere.

Aurora laughed coolly, "But your actions say otherwise."

"It's Jennifer's birthday. Even as just a friend, it's hard to say no. Todd and Lucas will be there too," John explained, clearly torn.

Aurora gave him a look, then after a moment, said generously, "Fine, go ahead."

John was surprised. "You mean it?"

"Yeah, but bring a gift for Ms. Johnson from me."

John had a bad feeling. "What kind of gift?"

Aurora smiled. "That's a secret between women. By the way, have you caught the person who tried to kill me in the Villa Kitchen?"

John nodded. "It's been taken care of."

Aurora asked, "Another woman with a thing for you?"

"Aurora, if I said I don't know her, would you believe me?" John was being honest; he really didn't know.

"I believe you," Aurora sighed in relief. "Since she's caught, let's leave it at that." It was like a ticking time bomb had been defused, and she felt more at ease.

She had always thought the Fox from The Shadow of Darkness organization was Jennifer, but now it seemed she was wrong.

Maybe she was just being paranoid.

John didn't go into details. Aurora needed to rest for her pregnancy, and he didn't want her stressing over other stuff.

After John left, Aurora was alone in the hospital. John had arranged for someone to guard the door.

Night fell.

Even though Aurora had let John go, it still bugged her. Men just didn't get how women think. Aurora, being a woman, knew Jennifer inviting John to dinner wasn't just about celebrating her birthday, but she couldn't stop him.

She had to trust John.

It got darker and darker outside. Aurora got sleepy and decided to rest, not waiting for John's message.

After a nap, Aurora woke up in the middle of the night.

She looked at the time; it was 3 AM. She couldn't fall back asleep.

Aurora started typing a message to John: [Can't sleep.]

Halfway through, she deleted it. No need to be too clingy.

Aurora put down her phone and was about to go back to sleep when a message notification sounded.

A few high-definition photos came from an unknown number, showing Jennifer and John in bed together.

Aurora's heart skipped a beat. This time, it wasn't just audio like last time; these were real, high-def photos.

Jennifer was snuggled in John's arms, both on the same bed. John looked like he had drunk too much and passed out.
