Chapter 191 Aurora Leads a Mahjong Game in the Hospital Room
The threatened miscarriage turned out to be just appendicitis.
Helen turned to Aurora. "So, you had your appendix out?"
Aurora chuckled awkwardly. "Yeah, figured it was better to get it out sooner rather than later."
Since Jennifer asked, Aurora guessed it must've been John's idea.
Leo and Sophia were trying hard not to laugh; they were on the verge but held back.
Helen looked concerned. "You gotta watch your diet now, eat lighter stuff. An appendectomy isn't a big deal; I had mine out too."
Aurora said, "Really? When it flares up, it's unbearable."
"Once it's out, you're good." Helen said while playing mahjong. "Leo, your turn."
Sophia raised her hand. "I want it."
Aurora picked up a tile, breaking up a pair in her hand to play it.
Loren, watching from the side, thought this was just giving away money.
Helen exclaimed, "I won again!"
Aurora gave a thumbs up. "Ms. Lewis, you're really good."
"Thanks," Helen said modestly.
They kept playing mahjong, totally ignoring Jennifer. Jennifer tried to speak several times but couldn't get a word in as Sophia and Leo kept changing the subject. They either played a tile for Helen to win or to make a set.
Helen was excited, and with Loren praising her from the side, she couldn't pay any attention to Jennifer.
After another round, Jennifer frowned. "Auntie Helen, the doctor said you should rest more. Your brain took a hard hit; you shouldn't overdo it."
Playing mahjong was pretty mentally taxing.
Helen was so into the game that she ignored her.
Aurora said, "A little mental exercise is good for health."
"Right, Aurora's right," Helen laughed. "Playing mahjong won't overexert my brain. I have a brain injury and forgot a lot of things, but it doesn't mean my brain has a problem."
Who would dare say Helen's brain has a problem?
The next round continued, and when John and Todd arrived, they saw Aurora and the others playing mahjong with Helen. It was lively, and they could even hear Helen's laughter from the hallway.
Todd walked in and then stepped back out. He looked at the sign on the door, confused. "Didn't go to the wrong place; I thought I walked into a mahjong parlor."
Todd had to admire Aurora. She even brought a mahjong table into the hospital room.
John saw Aurora sitting in a wheelchair playing mahjong with the others, and his face darkened.
Helen saw John and waved with a smile. "John, you're here. Mom's luck is pretty good today; look, I've won a lot."
"That's enough for today; pack it up," John said with a stern face, which was quite intimidating.
"Not playing today?" Helen still wanted to play. "John, let Mom play a few more rounds. It's rare that Aurora invited friends to play with me today. A little mental exercise might help me remember things from the past."
"No." John didn't even listen to his mom. "Aurora isn't well; she can't sit for too long."
So, in the end, John wasn't worried about Helen but about Aurora.
Wishful thinking.
Aurora smiled and said, "Ms. Lewis, how about we play another day? After all, we're both patients now and can't be discharged anytime soon."
After sitting for a while, Aurora's back started to hurt.
"Alright then." Helen was very obedient to her son. Seeing John's stern face, she didn't dare to continue playing. "Since I won so much today, when I am discharged, Aurora, I'll treat you three to a meal."
"Okay." Aurora smiled, "Ms. Lewis, whether you want to go shopping or do anything, I'm up for it."
Helen laughed, "Aurora, you're really a sweetheart. Whoever marries you will be really lucky."
Upon hearing her words, everyone in the room looked at John in unison. Only Jennifer's expression looked very unpleasant.
John spoke, "Jennifer, take my mom back to her room first."
"Okay." Jennifer supported Helen. "Auntie Helen, let's go back."
After Helen and Jennifer left, John glanced at the mahjong table and then at Leo and Sophia. "Take the mahjong table away."
"No way," Aurora said. "I'm counting on this to build a good relationship with your mom."
"Fine, leave it for now."
Todd couldn't help but laugh, thinking, 'Boss Lewis, where's your authority?'
Aurora lay back on the bed. "By the way, I lost quite a bit playing mahjong with your mom just now."
John sensibly said, "Count it on me."
Sophia raised her hand. "Mr. Lewis, what about me? I lost several thousand too."
Leo chimed in, "Brother-in-law, I lost tens of thousands. We're all doing this to help build a good relationship between my sister and Ms. Lewis. The biggest beneficiary is you."
Loren reached out. "Daddy, I was serving tea; it was hard work too."
John said, "Reimburse everyone."
John, being wealthy, didn't mind. One was Aurora's friend, another was his godbrother, and they called him "Brother-in-law" as Loren even called him "Daddy." John was in a great mood; so happy that he didn't care about money at all.
Todd said, "Ms. White, next time there's a mahjong game, count me in."
"Sure," Aurora smiled. "Mr. Smith, you didn't come to the hospital empty-handed, did you?"
Aurora and John looked at Todd in unison, their expressions clearly saying, "If you don't show some appreciation, we're cutting ties."
Todd's expression immediately turned depressed, and he gave his word on the spot. "After Ms. White has the baby, I'll cover all the expenses for formula, clothes, and diapers for those two kids, plus a pair of sapphires."
Aurora was satisfied and nodded. "Mr. Smith, you're too kind."
Todd felt so heartbroken for his money. "Not at all."
He didn't gain any benefits and ended up losing money.
Seeing Todd get extorted, Sophia immediately said, "Aurora, I just remembered I have something to do. I'll come visit you another day."
Leo slapped his forehead. "Oh, I just remembered I have something to do too. Sophia, I'll go with you."
Seeing they ran off fast, Aurora pouted. "Stingy."
"I also remembered I have to sign a batch of models this afternoon, so I'll head out too." Todd also slipped away.
The room suddenly became empty, leaving Aurora and John alone.
Aurora asked, "John, how did it turn into an appendectomy? Was that your doing?"
"Yes, I had the doctor create a fake medical record," John said. "Last night, Jennifer really did go to see the doctor."
Aurora snapped her fingers. "Clever. Luckily it was appendicitis. If it had been hemorrhoids, I would have been so embarrassed."
If John hadn't been prepared, the pregnancy would have been exposed.
John looked at Aurora with affection and said, "I'll have Loren stay with you. I'm going to check on my mom."
Aurora said, "Ms. Johnson didn't look too happy just now; you might want to check on her too."
Jennifer wouldn't show her emotions in front of Helen. She was smart enough not to badmouth Aurora.
Jennifer helped Helen lie down on the bed and poured a glass of water. "Auntie Helen, why were you playing mahjong with Aurora?"
"Aurora?" Helen realized. "She's that Aurora?"
Holding the water cup, Helen said, "Is the Aurora Sandra mentioned last night the same one clinging to my son?"
"Ms. White knows John." Jennifer spoke tactfully, just letting Helen draw her own conclusions.
"Aurora is indeed beautiful, and her child is likable, but it is impossible for an unmarried woman with a child to be with my son." Helen stated. "Jennifer, I only recognize you as my daughter-in-law."
"Mom." John walked in and dismissed Jennifer. "Go get some more water."
"Okay." Jennifer, well-mannered and graceful, left.
After Jennifer left, Helen frowned and said, "John, if you want to be with that Aurora, I won't agree."
John gave a faint smile. "How lucky am I to get Aurora. Mom, you can't disagree."
Wasn't that exactly what Helen had just said?
Helen was left speechless.
